The Grill was packed after the sheriff’s funeral.  Myra was tending to a large cup of tea alone, listening in to the conversations around her, the gossip, the speculations about the new guy that was supposed to be filling in... it made her feel slightly  better about the fact that tomorrow, Joey Miller was going to be buried, and that was all she could really think about.

“Okay, you know what? Screw you!”  Myra huffed, throwing the branch to the ground.  Was this blonde trying to scare her or intimidate her, or -- was she just laughing at her?  Either way, Myra was not appreciating the way she was being treated and spoken to, and she didn’t have to put up with it. “Get bit,”  she muttered, a small word play on ‘get bent’, before speeding up to a jog and moving along ahead. She wasn’t in the mood to deal, or actually get bitten by anything... she’d just finish her run somewhere else, with better company: nobody. Alone.
“Yeah go ahead and whack it see how well that works out for you.” This is not what normal people do on a Friday night. She should be at home watching reruns of Friends. Charlee pulled out a knife that she always kept in her right boot. “Do not show the wolf mercy because it won’t show any towards  you. It doesn’t have a problem ripping you to shreds.”

“I don’t own anything worth stealing and there are two empty bedrooms at my house right now.”  Myra shrugged.  “We’ve all gotta pitch in, right? -- There’s a leak in the hallway and the outside of the house looks like utter garbage, but the insides viable to live in, if you need a place to stay -- I’m offering.”  Truth was, it was just too quiet, with Maisie and Austin both gone and her dad constantly working, even sleeping at the hospital nowadays. Any company at this point was good company.
“well, are you sure? i mean, you don’t even know me?”

“Joey Miller.”  Myra didn’t even know if Elena would remember him; it wasn’t as though she and Elena had ever been close, and Joey and her had been a couple years older than Elena and her friends. Myra had met Joey on the first day of high school, and the two began dating over the summer break of their freshman year.  They’d been inseparable, the kind of couple people often mistook for siblings, as they’d always been laughing and pranking one another, joking and grossing each other out instead of going for the world record of PDA’s in the high school. “He left two years ago to go backpacking. Never got a call. Never came back. He just... left.”  And she’d hated him for it since. But if it was Joey that she was about to see again...
Elena watched the girl. She had never seen Myra so out of sorts. “Who?” She asked quietly. She didn’t want to push Myra any further emotionally than she seemed to be at the moment, but Elena knew something was up.

“You think it’s after us?”  Myra questioned, being a-okay with wanting to run right about now, but not wanting to seem like a complete idiot -- she wasn’t some dumb bitch, contrary to her behavior so far. She just had a bad feeling... and she’d been getting those a lot lately. She’d blame it on the weird dreams and finding blood stains in her clothes she couldn’t remember being there before.  “Couldn’t we just hit it with --”  He paused, very briefly, to yank a thick stick from the under brush.  “-- This? Maybe wolves, or coyotes or whatever, are like sharks,”  she suggested.  “You know -- whack them on the nose, really hard.”  She winced, imagining it. She didn’t like the idea of actually doing it, but she supposed if she encountered a dangerous wild animal face to face she’d feel differently; so she held onto the fallen branch as she walked.
Charlee followed the girl hoping that the werewolf would find something better to do then go after them. “If I tell you to run, you run and don’t look back.” The werewolf was faster but he or she couldn’t go after them both at the same time.  If needed Charlee would distract it while the other girl got away.

“What’s-?”  Myra had barely begun to ask the question when she was interrupted again, this time by a piercing howl -- it was so loud, that Myra jumped, flinching, and spun around.  Animal attack -- the headline ran across her mind’s eye.  “-- Okay, sure. Yeah. Um -- town’s this way.”  She didn’t know whether paved streets and lamp posts would actually make a difference, but she was hoping four walls and a locked door would. Myra started off in the proper direction, not really able to help her quick pace.  That howl had sounded close.
“I don’t mean to order you around but we really need to go. I’ll explain everything after we get out of these woods.”

“What are you-?”  No sooner had the question left her mouth, the blonde started ordering her around. Myra tucked her water back in it’s place, a little irritated with more than just herself, now.  “-- Why?”  What was this girl’s deal?
She quickly got the sim card from her camera and put it in her jacket pocket. Zipping it up Charlee hid her camera nearby, she would come back for it in the morning. “We need to go right now.” They didn’t have time to argue. The sooner they got out of the woods the better.

Myra sighed, shaking her head.  “No -- I don’t know. Why? Is that something I should be keeping track of?”  She couldn’t help it -- Myra pressed her hand to her lips a moment, annoyed with herself.  “... Sorry.  Um -- but, no, I don’t know.”  It was like word vomit. Did every second of every day have to drag on so agonizingly slow?  She squinted up through the branches in the trees.  “It looks full.”  Brown eyes slid to the camera in the blonde’s hands. She must want to take a picture or something. Sudden inspiration... whatever.
“There’s no need for the attitude.” As she was putting her camera away she heard a howl in the distance. She turned towards the woman. “Do you know if there’s a full moon tonight?” Charlee wasn’t going to take any chances tonight especially since she wasn’t alone out here.

“Oh. Lucky you.”  An owl hooted sleepily nearby -- Myra pulled a water bottle from a strap around her waist. It was clear by her tone and expression Myra didn’t at all find it amazing... but she wasn’t normally quite so stiff upper lipped. As the blonde stranger looked around, darkness fell under the canopy of trees; the sun must have sank below the horizon.
“Oh wow that’s amazing.” She loved history it was one of her favorite subjects. “I was born here but moved away shortly after.”

“1860-something,” Myra rattled off, recalling one of many lectures in high school about the town’s history. “You must not be from around here... they never shut up about local history in this town.”
“Maybe to you it’s just a pile of rocks..” Charlee bent down to get a different angle. “Do you know how long it’s been here?”

“Not really,”  Myra commented, appearing from behind one of the piles of rubble as she straightened and continued her stretches.  “It’s just a pile of rocks.”  Her cynicism was at an all time high these days, unfortunately for the stranger.
Charlee thought it would be fun to go take some pictures in the woods unaware that there was a full moon tonight. She spent most the day taking pictures of the scenery. After taking some pictures of the sunset Charlee decided it was time to head out until she came across what looked like to be a burned down church. “Interesting.” Charlee knew it was getting late but she couldn’t help herself from pulling back out her camera.

“Okay,”  Myra whispered, nodding to herself -- maybe saying it out loud would help it sink in to a level she could understand, know what to do with...  “Three years ago... I was crazy about this guy. But he left for a backpacking trip. Some -- some crazy self discovery thing. And -- and he never came back. He left me. I just got... the police department just called me, because -- because he was an emancipated teen, and he -- he changed his name, and I knew him best, and -- and they think they found his body.”  Nope. Still not real.  “-- They want me to go down to the morgue and work with a facial reconstruction, compare it to the body. To confirm his identity.”
She didn’t care about other people’s problems but seeing her in this state made Isabelle want to know what was wrong. “If I didn’t I wouldn’t have asked.”

“I can’t sit,” he replied quietly. The wind had been taken out of her sails, so to speak; she was in shock. Confused.  “I...”  She shook her head, trying to focus on one thing at once -- it might not even be him, she reminded herself.  “I have to go identify a body.”

Elena looked at the girl with a blank expression on her face. Myra seemed strangely not like herself. Elena shook her head before looking back at the girl. “Myra?” The girl asked softly, trying not to put the girl on the spot too much. “Do you want to sit down and talk?”
