The banks broke the economy and now politicians are trying to balance the government's debt on the backs of seniors, the poor, the working class, disabled and students by making massive cuts to our social safety net - social security, Medicare and Medicaid, student aid, unemployment, food stamps, and more. These programs weren't gifts from politicians or economic elites. The American people fought hard to win them, and we've got to protect them. The needs of the 99% should come before the 1%. We can win, just like in the past, but our power is in our unity.
On December 30, a New Orleans-style jazz funeral march will assemble at 11am at Oppenstein Brothers Park. The march will first stop at the Social Security Administration for the eulogy. The march will then continue on to Senator Roy Blunt's office where those most effected by the death of these programs will have the opportunity to speak out against those responsible.
Participants are encouraged to bring noise makers and to dress for this somber occasion.

The Occupation movement’s greatest strengths have been our ability to adapt and change the national dialog. Our calls from the streets to reclaim our economy, restore our democracy, and for economic equality have been heard. In a few short months, Occupy Wall Street has captivated and aroused a nation! We’ve overcome attacks by the 1%, billionaire mayors, and police brutality, but as winter comes, we must adapt again. That means devising plans to build our movement in spite of sub-zero temperatures, organizing creative new actions, and preparing for a Spring Occupation Offensive. Occupy KC is calling on the 99% to attend a one-day training to learn new movement building skills -- “Organizing 101.” Workshops will cover a broad range of topics including; non-violent civil disobedience training, “How do we build power and campaigns?”, canvassing, setting up an info table at school, and organizing people in our spheres of influence. Occupy Wall Street has knocked the 1% off their game and we are just getting started. But we know the movement will only be what the 99% makes of it and it’s up to us energize our movement in KC. Come to “Organizing 101” to learn new skills and share your ideas for how we can take Occupy Wall Street into 2012!
Date: Saturday, December 3
Time: 11 AM - 5:30 PM
Place: UMKC School of Education, 615 East 52nd Streetm Room 243, 244, 260

11/17 National Day of Action
What is November 17th all about? November 17th is a national day of action against policies that have enriched the 1% and impoverished the 99%. Today Occupy Wall Street focuses the anger of our growing movement on Congress’ failure in creating job growth for the millions of unemployed.   How can we continue to bail out the rich and prop up corrupt corporations when we have 30 million unemployed and underemployed Americans? Our roads are crumbling. Our sewers are rotting. Our schools are falling apart! How can we afford to keep blowing up infrastructure in overseas wars of aggression, and spend $44.6 billion in taxpayer funds on rebuilding Iraq, when so much work needs to be done here at home?   On November 17th we will declare an Economic Emergency for the 99%. People in KC and in 35 other cities across the country will gather at structurally unsound bridges and other decaying infrastructure sites to demand that America stop enriching the 1% at the expense of basic needs that benefit all. It’s time to get America back to work. We call on Congress to create job growth, cut foreign spending, and make Wall Street pay.   The solutions to the economic crisis, unemployment, the loss of our benefits, and the undemocratic control of our government by the 1% can only be provided by the 99%.   They don’t change if we don’t act! It is up to us! Location: Prospect Bridge over I-70 Date: Thursday, November 17 Time: 4-6 PM

Occupy KC will host a 7-hour forum at the main Occupy site in the park just south of Liberty Memorial on Sunday, October 23. We will start at 12:30 and go until 7pm. There will be guest lecturers that include professors, business professionals, subject matter experts and—of course—KC Occupiers. We will show films that highlight and illustrate the problems we face in this challenging time of high unemployment, low class mobility and oppression of the 99% at the hands of the wealthy few. We will also hold several work-groups throughout the day so that we don’t just talk about our problems, we actually get together and brainstorm ideas to solve those problems. This is a major event that will serve to educate and inform the public about our causes and concerns.  We want a very high turnout. Please come. Bring your family. Bring your friends. But also, bring your ideas, your concerns and your passion to empower the 99%. This is a family-friendly event which means no drugs, no alcohol and (as best as we can help it) family-friendly language. The group Howjido will perform a Family sing-along at 4pm. There will be childcare provided throughout the day. Best of all, all events, all lectures, all films, and all childcare are absolutely free. While we always are willing to accept donations, and we badly need donations—this event is absolutely free. Please join us for this outstanding opportunity to educate, empower and embrace our united desire to make this world a better and wiser world for ourselves, our families and our children. Download flyers here. Full schedule here:
