tbqh there’s nothing more boring to me than the interpretation that gerald never cared about shadow. its. fine. anyone can think what they want. but i think it’s a grave disservice to gerald’s character and to shadow’s frustrations. shadow was made with LOVE. that is the beauty behind his creation- it was made with love and care for maria, and for humanity. he was meant to save the world, not just maria. gerald cared enough about shadow to give him a real soul, to make him a real boy. he cared enough about him to send both him and maria off the ark during the raid. he cared enough about him to encourage him to defeat the black arms. he cared about shadow. he loved shadow. but the tragedy behind gerald robotnik, behind this influential humanitarian, who spent his life serving the people of earth, was that the very same people he served destroyed what he loved most. the tragedy of gerald is that he let hate rot him from the inside, he let revenge fester in him like an infected wound. and at the end of the day he decided his hate for humanity outweighed his love for shadow. and that is the tragedy of gerald and shadow’s relationship. that the man who did not just create you but also loved you like his own grandson also ended up manipulating you for his own agenda, disgracing his granddaughter’s last wishes just to get revenge. that’s the tragedy here.

ok but i find it interesting how shadow's appearance was partially inspired by kabuki theatre

like ooo that makes sense. that makes a lot of sense actually

funny thing is it kinda fits perfectly with shadow's first va using a slight mid-atlantic accent. i thought the accent was a nod to him being from the 50s when it was still in use, but the fact it was almost exclusively utilized in theatrical and cinematic settings kinda makes me wonder if it was an intentional reference to the theatrical aspect of shadow's design as well? his dramatic demeanor sickens me
