Vintage Entertainment For Timeless People

We are a middle aged couple. A friend of ours was pitching a ton of Playboys so we took them. They are fascinating time capsules. We’ll document the advertisements here…along with other assorted content from them. ALL are welcome here! Enjoy. And no minors please. This a vintage blog for timeless people.

1968. Saab 99e. “There are two cars built in Sweden.” Can you name the other one?

In the ‘80s, OJ Simpson was everywhere. Except jail. This ad is from a Penthouse magazine, and tbh, Penthouse had better ads than Playboy imho…but it’s too late to rename the blog “Old Penthouse Ads.” Oh well. “Dingo Boots.” More accurately: “Acme Boot Company” dba “Dingo Boots.”

1976. Sony alarm clock. This one even has a snooze bar, back when it was a novelty. It’s a Sony: “Time should be seen and not heard.”

1968. Way back when, before the male race in unison started dressing like slobs (myself included!), most of us cared enough to dress nicely. These are tie tacs, meant to afix a tie to a shirt but also to adorn it. “Out with the nailed-down look!” Nice ad.

BASF? TDK? Maxell? Scotch? Leave it to 3M, they make EVERYTHING. 3M stood for Minnesota Manufacturing and Mining but now just goes by 3M.
What was your brand? Drop in the comments…

Reel to reel. I was in a record store a few weeks back and the clerk showed me their impressive selection of reel to reel tapes.

What was your favorite audio cassette? Please drop a note in the comments. I’m a Maxell guy, but only because of their fantastic ads…

Penthouse: Feb 1982. I know the blog is called “Old Playboy Ads,” but 80s vintage Penthouse magazines had interesting advertisements also. The new Jeep Scrambler. Resembles the Gladiator out now, except the Gladiator is a 4 seater. This ad is also from when Jeep was an American Motors Company property. Check out how the windshield folds down, pretty slick.

Penthouse: Feb 1982. I know the blog is called “Old Playboy Ads,” but Penthouse had interesting advertisements also. It seems odd, but as big as movies were back then, there weren’t many ads for movies in these magazines. Here is a movie ad for a movie, a small steamy thriller called “Seduction,” starring Morgan Fairchild. She had a really unique look and - happily for me as a kid back then - had no problem taking her clothes off for the camera.

Penthouse: Feb 1982. I know the blog is called “Old Playboy Ads,” but Penthouse had interesting advertisements also. This one was for this sporty 1982 Honda CX500 Turbo motorcycle. “Honda: Follow the Leader.”
