So being honest, I'm writing this like 7 or 8 months after I read it. I took notes though so I'm writing my review based on those and the screenshots I took 🫡

King of The Apocalypse Review #1

So side note, but I refuse to type out the other four names of this everytime I post about it so setting the standard now.

This is honestly more of a rant than a review and I think it’s pretty funny so if you stumble upon this and don’t know anything about King of the Apocalypse maybe you’ll want to read it for me ranting

I was totally meaning to do a review when I hit ch 100, but I was having a shitty day and didn’t want to so here we are (don’t ask how I dragged it out this long because idk)

This is NOT spoiler free

ONTO THE REVIEW:

I have so many things to say and so many questions, a lot of this is less reviewey and more ‘I didn’t want to spam my blog and have to link all the links in the king of apocalypse list page because I dont know how to do the tagging system’.    Also I’m writing this based on notes I took in a doc while I was reading.

-Ok so first off our mc?’s name is Qin Yu and his sister, Xiao Yu, who seems more and more like the mc as I keep reading, are stuck in the apocalypse (wow so surprising).  I’m not giving all the details because this is not a summary 💀.  -So Qin Yu was a level 2A gunslinger before he died in his original timeline.  This is super confusing because evolves go through different levels, which are numbered.  And circa chapter 150 (honestly I don’t remember the ch just guessing rn) he becomes a level 2 evolver.  So is he already around his previous strength or is the 2A gunslinger a different system??? Minor questions that the author prob didn’t put much thought into considering it was only mentioned once.  It also could have been a translation mishap, like some things don’t translate so the translators change the words so it makes sense.

-It’s chapter 2 why am i literally like an inch of skirt away from seeing Xiao Yu’s ass??? 😭😭😭. WAS THIS NECESSARY

-So why does Xiao Yu think it’s normal and ok to walk in on her brother naked in the shower to put things in the bathroom and then proceed to offer to wash his back?? SIS HE. IS. NAKED.  AND YOUR BROTHER.  And Qin Yu is obviously puzzled as why she thinks this is ok but HE AGREES.  QIN YU WHAT. 😟🤯🤯🤯🤯. Even if they aren’t related by blood this is weird.

-Apparently the evolution materials taste like gummies which is nice to know I guess?? Thanks Xiao Yu.

-Qin Yu had to eat like one evolution material to evolve, but Xiao Yu had to eat ten, at least 2 of which were high quality.  So who is really the mc here?

- Why does Xiao Yu not question why Qin Yu knows everything in such detail, she questions it once and he basically says “well... I had a dream”. BITCH YOU DREAMED THE IN DEPTH DETAILS OF THE APOCALYPSE ??  It’s literally apocalypse day one, maybe keep your information to yourself.  It’s suspicious that you know this much, you’re lucky your sister is either stupid or has too much trust in you. Otherwise your ass would’ve been killed. Like idk about you but if its the apocalypse and the guy next to me repeatedly says things like “don’t touch the rain you’ll turn into a zombie”, “eat this it will help you evolve”, “how do you feel”, and gives me a person’s past, I would be suspicious, like prove you’re not a zombie or something else thats going to kill me or we’re gonna have to fight this out.

- In ch 29 he has a shield??? He never got some random shield artifact so I’m guessing he did that with his fire, but I'm still confused

-I CAN’T WITH THE RANDOM SIDE CHARACTER HAIRCUTS

-I am very much triggered by the fact that Lee Wei’s facial hair is a different color and texture from the rest of his hair.  It can’t even be explained away by his hair being dyed, it’s the apocalypse, he has no hair dye.

-On a more positive note than most of this review / rant (more of a rant than a review really).  The author explained dimensional travel really well... ok this is awkward but I can’t find it in the chapter I noted it was in so... I’ll do my best to explain it

Qin Yu called the earth a specific point on a specific page, and parallel galaxies are that same point on a different page.  He told Xiao Yu they had to make a hole through the pages to get back to their page.

Idk I understood this really well so if anyone happens upon this and it helps them, yay I did a good thing; ig 🤷‍♀️ 

-The translation is really shitty rn cuz it’s machine translated (around ch 230); I miss the nonames😭😭😭😭

-Qin Yu casually killed 600 people in around ch 175

-Since Xiao Yu got sister snached by that random alien thing does this mean she is not the mc???

- ok so we know Xiao Yu has a special bloodline and stuff so maybe she wasn’t really immune to the blood rain (the stuff that turned people into zombies originally) in the beginning and it altered her blood?? (credit to a random person on the site I was using to read for bringing up a similar idea)

Purple Sky

(I wrote this on 12/19/2022)

(I remember writing everything else ive posted except this;  WHY DID I WRITE THIS 😭😭)

As she looked out the window she saw something strange.  The sky was purple.  She was somewhat confused by this, although it made sense.  Why it made sense, she had no idea.  She continued following the rules of the game.  It was only later she remembered that she was in a game.  Well it wasn’t that she didn’t remember before, she had just not thought of it.  Still even though this was a game, why was the sky purple?

As Night Became day

(I wrote this on 12/19/2022)

Prompt: The last words of your novel are, “As night became day, he started to understand the truth.” Now, go write the rest.

Liam was always wandering the city.  Enjoying various things, like the lights, he especially liked the way they looked at night.  The way they sparkled and seemed to light up the city.  He knew the city at night was a dangerous place, but the lights made him feel safe as if god was watching him through the lights.  Even though he wasn’t religious and didn’t believe in a god, this safety was what lead him to go out and enjoy the beauty of the night every day.  On this day, Liam went out and was walking to a 24-hour cafe, one of the very few restaurants that would be open at this time of night.  He walked and walked and eventually came to the cafe.  He ordered his drink, not coffee, but tea, and a nice croissant.  As he drinks his tea he looks around and notices the building is shaking.  He thinks that is a little weird, but ultimately decides it’s nothing to worry about.  Just then the entire building collapses, burying him.  A few seconds later, he stands up, wondering how he is completely fine.  Not a single scratch is on his body.  He literally stood up out of the rubble.  Thinking the sky would have the answer he looks up, and theres the sunset.  When he looks at his body again, he realizes.  “As night became day, he started to understand the truth.”

Rejected ending:

A day later he wakes up, at home, and is very confused on how he got here.  I mean a building just collapsed on him, he shouldn’t be home safe.  He thinks about it and thinks about it, and leaves his house to wander the night again.  He still thinks about it, and can’t come up with an answer as to how that possibly could have happened.  The more he thinks, the more he is convinced it’s the supernatural.  Something must have interfered and brought him home safe.  Satisfied, he decides to stay out all night tonight.  He hikes a trail up a mountain and sits there with some food.  As he watches the sunrise, something strange happens.  He falls asleep, and when he opens his eyes again, he’s in his house and it’s night.  He does this again, and this time he doesn’t fall asleep.  “As night became day, he started to understand the truth.”

Sunset Prompt

It was the year 2150, and Leah was talking to her friend John.  John was telling Leah a story, a story his family passed down, of horses, knights, and princesses.  Here we are, in the middle of the story, well, the beginning of our story.  John continues his story, “The princess was searching for an escape from the castle, when she heard a shout from below the castle ‘jump!’ the voice exclaimed, ‘what no!  I’ll die!’, the princess said back.  It was then that she noticed the footsteps quickly approaching, the footsteps of her stepfather, the man who wants her dead.  The last time he came he told her, ‘The next time I come to see you will be your last moments’.  She decided she’d rather die from jumping from a castle, than die at the hands of her stepfather, and so, she yelled ‘you know what! Whatever!’ and jumped.  The door just opened and her stepfather saw her jump out of the window into the water below.  The princess had fallen into a boat waiting below, and was caught by a knight, the one who was yelling for her to jump.  The knight proclaimed that he was there to save her and that they would make her stepfather think she was dead.  And so they rowed away, mounted horses, and they rode away into the sunset…”.  As John finished his story, Leah looked at him with confusion and asked, “I mean, I understood everything else in your story, but what’s a sunset?”  John responded “Well, I don’t know, but my granddad saw one once”.  Leah, full of curiosity, said to John, “Let’s ask our parents if they know anything about this ‘sunset’ thing.”

i Wish

(I wrote this on 10/17/2022)

For this one my teacher would say random words at random intervals and we would have to include them in what we were writing (the prompt was box btw)

He was shaped like a box, in the sense that the parts of his body were boxy.  His hair was brown and wavy, and besides being shaped like, you know, a box, he was pretty handsome.  In a world like this, he was pretty normal, or at least not too abnormal.  I mean come on, in a world with superpowers, being shaped like a box is not that bad.  He’s seen people with diamond heads, triangle feet, or even worse, horse heads.  The world isn’t all that bad though, people can have any superpower, like the ability to control water.

Even though his boxyness wasn’t too abnormal, he wished he had a useful superpower, or at least one that didn’t change the way he looked.  Like imagine if he could walk through fire, even if there aren’t many practical applications, at the very least he looks normal.  He could be a firefighter, right?

He often feels like people gloss over him, like he’s just “the box guy”, and no more than that.  There’s more to a man than just the way he looks!  Being frustrated the young man decides to attempt to stand out, in the hopes that people will talk to him and ask why he looks so different.  At least then people will actually talk to him.  Even if no one talks to him, people will finally look at him and not through him.  Armed with his purple hair, the original intent was white, but after bleaching and toning, he realized he looked too, how should this be put?, funny-looking.  Yea, funny-looking seems right.  With white hair, he looked too funny-looking, and so it was purple.  Alas, no one looked at him more than before, maybe he should have thought his plan through some more, I mean this is a world with superpowers, some people probably have even weirder color hair, naturally.  Speaking of hair, he did think it would have been worse if his body was normal looking and his hair was boxy.  As he was thinking this, he was suddenly blinded by something, and just like everyone else, he looked to see what it was.  It was a man with shiny, and reflective, like it was made of tiny strands of mirrors, hair.  Wow, he thought, i wish i could be like him, then at the very least i might become something, and I would turn into something great.
