Found some great zip folders for my prints today. This was a lucky buy at MUJI, I like that it's translucent so you get to see the prints through it. I've also cut out my Obscura logo on vinyl (with the Cricut) and stuck it on the front to keep a cohesive brand identity.

A few of us went Offprint at the weekend quickly. I love this fair and try to go every year to look at publications. It's great for networking as well - I got to meet the people at The White Review and Fitzcaraldo Editions who are clients at A New Archive. It was so nice to see these books in the flesh and talk about them. Lots of inspirational work going on from all the independent publishers.

THE CRICUT MACHINE WORKS I LOVE THIS THING I've managed to make all my prints in an hour, I just can't believe I spent so much time, energy and money on the Makeblock XY Plotter when I could have found this from the beginning and made a lot more progress with physical work!! But I've had a lot of reassurance from course mates saying that if I hadn't gone through the process of that route not working then I wouldn't have found a new way to work around it. So it's all good anyway. I'm just so happy I finally have my prints drawn out

I HAVE A NEW MACHINE This is called a Cricut Explore Air and it is SO much easier to use than the Makeblock XY Plotter! I'm finally making my prints and this also cuts paper, card and vinyl so it may be one of the best things I've ever bought...

BIG UPDATE
MY PLOTTER ISN’T gONNA cUT IT!!!
This is so disappointing, but I’m not gonna be able to make this project work using the Makeblock XY Plotter... The reason being that it is very very advanced, and given the timeframe that we have to finish this work, I’m not skilled enough to get it doing what I want it to do.
So the plan is to either return the plotter to the US.. or ask the technician at Wimbledon if he wants to buy it off me.
And instead of using the plotter, I have found a new machine that (fingers crossed) is really simple to use and work, called a Cricut.

I’m picking one up first thing on Monday and hopefully David can help me with interface design and setting it up to work with the app for the cutter.

I picked up my prints from Shades of Colour yesterday, just the first batch for photographing and testing. I'm really happy with these and how he colours turned out. Next step would be to apply the robotic process to this... but there has been a slight hitch with that part of the project... Basically I definitely won't have the time to learn the programming and process to get the plotter in full working order. I am going to scrap the Makeblock XY Plotter and instead I have been looking at a vinyl cutter/writer from Hobbycraft called a Cricut. It looks a lot easier than my other option, as it's made for craft projects. It costs £240 pounds but I have leftover budget and should be getting money for the plotter! This way I could also keep it after uni anyway as I think it would be quite handy for future projects. As a side note, because the Cricut also cuts materials, I can use this to make stickers out of my typeface to then use on deliverables like postage

We made some important steps today regarding materials to build the show with! 1. Were hopefully buying in some clampers for the stud work which should make it easier to fix together with more of a sound structure. This also means that walls can go up in a matter of 15 minutes 2. Self tapping screw do not with with this

Update from the Branding Team! We've picked up the invitations from Shades of Colour today and we're in love! It's amazing to finally see printed outcomes for the show and get the ball rolling. We've also started our social output on instagram and twitter with all the content from the course.

So... I’ve set off designs to print for testing with my plotter and some POSCA pens. For now I’ve ordered 30 x A5 prints just to test with some pens and make sure the designs come out right and everything works properly together.
I’m picking them up from shades of colour tomorrow. Today I’m just going to work hard on my website. I’m going to make a scrolling website with a static landing page where users can go through the process of picking the size of their print, the pen colour and their “secret” message. This website will hopefully broaden the project and give it legs after the exhibition period.

I've been making my website animation for hand in! It's looking good, and I'm happy with it but I'm going to hire someone to make the actual website for the degree show
