Yes, the Orphic Hymns are especially elevatory, but Hera being a 'life-giving mother of mortals' does seem to have some Classical precedence (at least in Empedocles's work).
As for the "queen mother" thing, I think I misunderstood and read it as "queen and mother," which is something she can rightfully be called. She is no queen mother.
Kinda funny to see Hera called "queen mother" because, unless I have missed some major changes in the pantheon, she isn't the mother of any kings (in fact her children are pretty low in rank among the Olympians), but rather the daughter of the previous king of the gods and the wife of the current one. If anything she would be a queen consort.

As far as I can tell, it's a convention that appears in the Orphic Hymn to Hera. In it, she's the foremost goddess of air, which the ancient Greeks believed was inherently life-giving; the soul, in particular, is described as having an airy quality.

idk why I'm only just now trying to digest this, but I'm so angry about how Not Normal people were for TDOV. I've been celebrating TDOV since i came out at 12 and seeing the amount of vitriol towards trans people because Easter just so happened to fall on Mar. 31st this time is.... wow

Not everything the Christians do is stolen from some anonymous pagan culture. I'm sorry y'all but the Christians did actually come up with a bunch of shit on their own.

nah, OP is right on the money. Easter wasn't stolen from pagans. It was ripped from Passover

my Classical Athenian history professor who just talked shit about Xenophon for the last 30 minutes: I gotta hand it to him, though. He may be a horrible historian, but at least he's against child brides :)

beardless Hades is always such a jumpscare for me because beards are like.......... the de facto symbol of manhood for the ancient Greeks..... He's the oldest brother, like ofc he'd have a beard😭
I don’t like it when ppl draw Hades as a young emo guy bc part of the appeal (at least for me) is that he’s an older more mature guy. Like idk man I’d rather be kidnapped and married to Disney’s Hades rather than a guy I’d see at hot topic.

Kypris sent me a dream where I was walking down a spiraling pearl staircase. The railing was decorated with shells and coral; it was too rough to touch. When I reached the bottom, I found myself on the white-sanded shores of a beach. Then I woke up 🐚
Feel free to elaborate, and reblog for bigger sample size

My copy of the Illiad & Odyssey are translated by Samuel Butler. Is this good or too outdated and should look for a different copy. Its not for academic study or myth analysis. Simply because I think I should read both in full as a Hellenic Polytheist 😅
There's certainly nothing wrong with Butler's translation! It's just that since he was writing in the 1890–1900s, it can be difficult for us modern readers to fully digest his translation style!
That's kind of the problem with all older translations, I think—they aren't the most readable, but also, there will always be some trouble interpreting Homer because we are so far removed from the original audiences who would've heard these Epics performed as songs.
Wilson's translations are by far the best in terms of readability because she changes the meter from dactylic hexameter (which only really works in Greek) to iambic pentameter, which is the meter Shakespeare uses. In that way, she adapts the Homeric Epics to fit an English meter, which is ideal for English-speaking audiences!
