I think it’s funny when a fictional dude is kinda goofy or naive or not into academics, and people start playing that up a little for comedy or angst or sex reasons in fic and you’re like “yeah, okay, this shift makes sense for the kind of story they’re writing and it still tracks,” but eventually you start seeing versions where he’s congenitally incapable of petty negative emotions and seems like he’s been failed beyond plausibility by whatever school system exists in his world. And it’s kind of like looking at a modern-day pug.
#the term is woobifying#u take a normal dude and turn him into a whump vessel and make every facet of his personality a direct result of mistreatment#ex: wei wuxian likes his food so spicy bc it kept dogs from stealing his food when he lived on the street#instead of just liking spicy food#see also: neal caffrey. ive never seen an ao3 tag so full of shootings stabbings poisonings head injuries pneumonia etc etc#for a show that is not all that violent. and its on christmas. and sometimes he's nightwing? idk theres a lot goin on
