There's a post somewhere saying hope is a thing with bruised knuckles and bloodied teeth and I think that suits Xie lian as well. He's lived and died for 800 years he's dealt with war and disease and famine and death he is not naive but he chooses hope and kindness and love and joy over and over. The world is cruel but every day people are kind and that makes it worth it, worth everything and anything.

Mmmmm something so delicious about hualian's codependency like hua cheng cant stand xie lian not being with him, wakes up immediately if xie lian tries to move from their bed, freely admits he gets lonely if xie lian isn't around, begs xie lian to tell him more and more about himself because he's so greedy about any and every little piece of knowledge about him.

And xie lian laying in excruciating pain being told seeing hua cheng is the reason for said pain and immediately panicking about how he cant stop seeing hua cheng because of this, then proceeding to almost knock mqfx the fuck out with his bare hands because they're trying to stop him from going to hua cheng, throwing himself in hua cheng's arms and demanding not to be separated because he'd rather die from this pain than to be without hua cheng for even a single moment.

And that's especially hot to me from xie lian's side because like. He's been abandoned and left on his own so many times and for so long. His closest most dearest people all left him one way or another and he learnt to live with it despite the pain. Yet he cant do the same when it comes to hua cheng. Even if it's for an hour or a day being separated until the curse is broken, the thought of being Not With Hua Cheng is intolerable to xie lian.

It’s been months but I’m still thinking about this tweet that said out off every character from Xianle that we meet, Hua Cheng is the most representative of their love for the arts, for riches and beauty.

Like truly he in many ways comes to personify Xianle in a way, both in the high society luxurious culture that Xianle was famous for but also he’s the orphan from the four famous tales making him the representation of Xie Lians care for the common people. Like he is both the lowest of the low and someone who’s kept the Xianle ways alive.

Like all my brain is thinking of is how Xie Lian distanced himself from all that to cultivate, then to become a God, then a poor peasant and how homesick he’s been his whole life.

Only for his husband who was a poor peasant, then a solder, then a king who represents everything Xianle stood for and how their stories are going backwards and forwards and how Xianle is gone but how Hua Cheng embody all of Xianles culture from the poor to the rich and and how he feels like home to Xie Lian now.

"all hua cheng's overprotectiveness is actually--" im gonna stop you right there, hua cheng is not overprotective. bro literally does nothing overprotective.

he actively lets xie lian do shit he shouldn't and just does his best to warn against it and only intervenes when it's an actually significantly serious life or death situation that he has no way of meaningfully assisting with and the only time he actually gets angry and physical with xie lian is when he has reason to believe that xie lian is about to lethally injure himself on purpose.

he has a scene where he literally tells xie lian not to bother saving someone from certain death, shows xie lian he can't help him save that guy, again reiterates strongly not to try it because it would be nearly impossible, but then just lets him do it. and when feng xin is surprised, hua cheng makes it clear that he doesn't actually think he knows more than xie lian and does not want to control him

'overprotective' is in the same vein as 'stalker' ie labels that people slap onto hua cheng without thinking for a moment about who he is or what those words mean
