Last week, I came across a comment on the site left by Luis J. regarding an unreleased “WCW vs Marvel toyline” and a piece of comic art owned by him that was supposed to be used for the project.  Given the fact that I had never heard of this before, I asked for him to send it in and he was amazing enough to send it over with a slight bit of extra information:

"[The art] was drawn by Chris Batista, an acquaintance of mine who is a professional comic artist. Finding info on this has been so hard, even his art page is missing scans of the rest of the pages. He still has more pages up for sale featuring Kevin Nash, who is in the last panel of this page but I think I got the best of the bunch. Chris doesn’t know much about why it wasn’t released mostly because he’s not into wrestling but it was pretty amusing hearing that this was before he could just use Google for reference so he had to go out and buy a wrestling magazine.

Just remember, Cap don’t tap.”

Holy shit — this is official Marvel art of Bret Hart locking Captain America into a Sharpshooter!!

Looking at the artwork, it would appear that Hart looks very similar to how he appeared in the WCW S.L.A.M. Force mini-comic found inside the Toy Biz action figure line of the same name, featuring super-hero versions of WCW wrestlers:

Not only was there supposed to be a fully-fledged S.L.A.M. Force Marvel comic to spawn from these figures (which never materialized), there seems to have been plans for an additional line or spin-off comic which had the WCW guys take on various Marvel superheros.

I’ll keep bugging Chris Batista and see if he can give me any more info on the project…
