About Ominis, Hogwarts Bells and Home

I had just completed the All's Well That Ends Bell sidestory quest where you helped a young Hufflepuff Student to repair the school bell that had been previously taken down by the order of Professor black. By chance I get this remark from Ominis when I came accross him in the castle.

This makes me think that for Ominis, this bell is part of reminder that he is indeed home at Hogwarts.

To Ominis, coming to Hogwarts where he can be himself and find friendships might feel like coming home. Just like Harry Potter a century later, Hogwarts allows Ominis to escape his abusive family. Hogwarts is where he finds his two best friend in life, Anne and Sebastian.

Being blind, I think Ominis is very perceptive with all sounds associated with being at Hogwarts. The armored knights who hums in the hallway, portraits that play music near the Central Hall, how sounds of forks and knives are reverberated in the Great Hall, how sounds are dampened slightly in the greenhouses, how sounds echo in the Undercroft. He listens to the bell's sound since his first day in Hogwarts, and for some student it is simply a reminder that they are late for class, for him it is a reminder that he is in a place he calls home.

That the bell was missing that year is probably adding some anxiety to him, on the top of what trouble Sebastian is brewing with the new fifth year student.

To have the sound of the bell back is probably a small comfort, a reminder of a happier time where he still had both Sebastian and Anne on his side, and that the biggest worry they had was a detention for being caught sneaking past curfew, or to be sprouted with smelly liquid after losing a Gobstone match.

When it finally rings again after months of silence, Ominis smiles. It reminds him that he is indeed at home at Hogwarts.

What Ominis means when he says, "Sebastian, please."

Am I the only one who feel that everytime Ominis says "Sebastian, please," what he means is this:

"Sebastian, I love you. I care about you a lot. You are my best friend and the person I care the most in my life. I care for your health, your wellbeing, your happiness, and I do not wish you to tear your soul by doing the unthinkables. Do not sell your soul. I love you too much to let you do that. And no matter what you do, no matter if our friendships will survive, I will continue to care about you and to love you but this does not mean what you do will please me. I will get angry to you if you do not take a good care of yourself."

thinking about clingy Ominis ❤️ he doesn’t get close to people often, but when he does, he always wants to be around that person and talk to them and spend time with them. he’ll act like he’s annoyed with someone a lot, but it’s so obviously a lie since he constantly goes out of his way to be with them. even if it means them sitting on opposite sides of the room to work on their homework and not talking, he’s happy because he just wants with them.

Heard you're defending Hogsmeade against trolls. You know there is such a thing as trying too hard.

I was walking around Hogsmeade with Ominis and when we walked past someone, they said “Gormlaith Gaunt was the type who would have flayed her own mother.” Why would you remind him of that right in front of him 😭

I bet Ominis is a very organized person. He’s particular about where all of his belongings go and he has his own well thought out system of how his things are stored. Every item of clothing has its specific place, he stores all his books in a specific way, and anything he owns will always be found in exactly the same spot because that means he can easily locate whatever it is he needs. Without being so organized, it’d be infinitely harder for him to navigate his belongings. And for that reason, he gets extremely cross with anyone who touches his stuff. They most certainly will be scolded and berated and he will absolutely make them feel bad about it so they never do it again.

ominis&poppy&natty would be an amazing trio imo. all three of them have strong morals and have first hand experiences on how bad people can be and how disorienting it is to lose your home. and the girls have that chaotic good urge to go and YEET themselves into danger while eternally grumpy ominis (who would still loyally follow them anywhere) would be like "can't we just chill and be normal kids for ONE week??"

YES!! Ominis always follows them around and says it's just to make sure they don't get hurt. He complains the whole time, tells them to just be normal for once, but he really wouldn't want it to be any other way. He loves that they both want to do good! They want the world to be better, so he puts up with their antics and their knack for putting themselves into danger because he's not going to deny them the positive change they could cause. And they both would just make him begrudgingly smile because how could he not be so fond of them? Poppy and Natty are so full of life and that's the opposite of the world he's used to. He'd want to be around that.

And if one of them put themselves into too much danger and did get hurt? Just imagine how much Ominis would fuss over them while scolding them the whole time, but only because he cares.

She could be the first person to give him the healthy, attentive care and empathy he has always deserved. 

She would never dabble in dark arts, ever.

She is a badass, he is a Slytherin, what more can I say 🎶

He would LOVe magical beasts! He’d feel so comforted in their presence. i would invite them both to hang out in my vivariums  

He would support her work and protect her in her more reckless moments

someone made a companions mod so you can bring ominis, sebastian, poppy, professor garlick, or a bunch of other characters around with you. just thought anyone interested would like to know.

how do you personally think ominis and the mc’s relationship would pan out after the events of the fifth year ? do you think there would ever be a possibility of them staying in touch? as much as i love ominis and tried to cater to his side of things i cant help but wonder if he resents the mc for helping sebastian down his dark path or if he even wants to associate with them by the end of it all

I actually do believe that he would stay in touch with the MC! At the end of the storyline, after you talk to him, he says "Whatever lies ahead, we must face it together. That, I know." He meant it. They all went through something extremely emotionally intense and Ominis knows that's not something they should be dealing with alone. Whatever choices they have to make, however things move forward, he wants them to be in it together.

He's very slow to trust people (except Sebastian), but once he does and once he decides he's friends with someone, that's it. He's in it for the long run. We saw with Sebastian how long and how much it takes him to turn his back on someone he cares about, even if they're doing something that hurts him. He doesn't have very many people, so the people he does have, he clings to for longer than he probably should. By the end of the storyline, he says to the MC that he's glad they came to Hogwarts. It's clear he's developed a fondness and friendship with them and he's not letting that go easily.

I don't think he resents the MC. I think Ominis understands that the choices Sebastian made were his choices alone. Even if the MC pushed him down that path, ultimately, it was Sebastian who made the choice to do everything he did. He's not going to hold someone else's choices against the MC. So as much as it breaks his heart to do it, he puts the blame on Sebastian.

I think there would be tension after everything that has happened, but I think Ominis would be making an active attempt to work through that tension so they can stay friends. He's probably pretty desperate for a friend after everything, so I can see him being forgiving of the MC if they made some wrong choices too, provided they're not using dark magic as well.
