༘⋆。 stirring the pot starters
a mix of arguments, tension, manipulation, gossiping, fighting, & general emotional messiness!
you weren't supposed to hear that.
don't look at me like i'm the only one lying.
want to tell them, or should i?
you think i don't know what you did?
i've hit people for less.
oh, i thought you already knew.
that's funny, you didn't say that last night.
say that again. i dare you.
you wanna talk about loyalty?
no offense, but if you're the last to know, that's on you.
go ahead - pretend like it wasn't your idea!
they deserve to know the truth.
you didn't hear this from me, but -
oh, so now you care?
don't flatter yourself. you were just convenient.
you crossed a line.
we had bets on how long it would last.
it's not even a secret anymore.
you don't get to cry about it now.
touch me again and see what happens.
say it again. louder this time.
you really thought nobody would find out?
don't act so innocent.
okay, but am i the villain for laughing?
tell me who else knows. right now.
this whole time, and you didn't say a word?
don't act brave now.
you're really gonna do this here?
it wasn't supposed to get this far!
you can't rewrite history.
oh, i'd never say it to their faces.
it was supposed to stay between us.
we're all thinking it, i just said it.
you're not as untouchable as you act.
do you even feel guilty?
they warned me about you.
go ahead, make it worse.
if you repeat this, i'll deny everything.
the next thing out of your mouth better be an apology.
you're about three seconds away from regretting this.
you keep pushing, and i'll push you back.
they're going to find out.
one more lie, and i walk.
they're lying to you.
you need to back off. now.
you're defending them? after everything?
don't try to hide it.
tell me, was i just a placeholder?
you really think sorry fixes this?
there's nothing left to say.
don't act like you're the one hurting.
i don't owe you any explanation.
whatever helps you sleep at night.
you should've seen this coming.
i hope it was worth it.
i told the truth. just not all of it.
you'll miss me before i miss you.
smile. you're ruining the mood.
i'd watch that tone if i were you.
it's not my fault you believed me.
you have such a talent for pretending you're innocent.
we both know this is over.
i never said i was a good person.
i thought you were different.

are you in a rush? she tilted her head, looking up at him with a look that said 'i mean . . .' she wasn't in a rush. not really. this was going to be a long year, she knew that. and it was arguably one of the most important years of her entire life, definitely one of the most important years of her profession. the rookie year could make or break the job for officer ava. she was a p1, a rookie, an officer in training. it was her first day out of the academy. and she almost let one asshole bring out the worst in her. on. day. one. god, she was a trainwreck. and she really did feel sorry for bradford, because he was stuck with the hot mess express as his rookie. but in her defense, how was anyone ever supposed to live up to the legacy of lucy chen?
i believe in you. ava opened and closed her mouth twice before she gave up and swallowed down whatever words she thought she could find. only two people had ever said those words to her before. alejandro . . . and liam. the two loves of her life. her twin brother and her best friend. and now . . . tim bradford. she broke a rule, she was sure of it, when she launched herself at @grumpycops and forced her training officer into a accepting a hug that was a little too tight. "thank you," she whispered before pulling back and nodding, wiping at her nose in a not-so-clever disguise to hide the tears that fell. "right. yeah. we should um. do that. we should get back in the boot." she walked to the passenger side, but looked over the hood at him. "you know, tamara said you promised to buy her ice cream after her first shift. just saying." she shrugged innocently and got into the shop.
@1stresponders was going to be a damn good cop - ava was right about that, and tim was going to help her get there. despite the bratty attitude. he could handle that - as long as she was willing to learn, and he'd seen nothing from her today that proved him any different. but he does chuckle at her eagerness, so teach me. like it was that simple - like it would all be done in a day of work. "we have twelve months, boot. are you in a rush?" arching his brow at her - he'd heard that the other boot ( not his daughter, the other other one ) was gunning for intelligence. he hopes lucy will knock him into place. that he doesn't risk her life playing hero. "we have time, you'll get there. i believe in you." he wasn't sure how many people ava had in her life, but one more with faith in her didn't seem like it would damage her or inflate her ego.
so tim nods back to the shop. but he pauses at her words. the best thing that ever happened to her. it brings a bit of a smile to his lips, maybe fatherhood had made him soft. maybe it was the lucy chen effect. the : bring more kindness into the world, thing she had going on. "i would love to be a good thing, but it depends on what you bring to the table, boot. one of them being getting back into shop and letting us finish the last half hour of your first day. let's both go home with our badges today, yeah?"

it was almost like erin could read nadia's mind, like she knew what was happening in that pretty little head of hers. because she had been in nadia's shoes once, she walked the same streets and she found the same trouble. or maybe neither found trouble, but trouble definitely found them, wherever they went. until voight took erin in, but that was temporary. it was olinsky that gave her a permanent home, setting erin up in her own apartment when he was still living in a garage. he gave her a home, and she could never repay him for that. all she could hope for was that she could give nadia that same sense of home. but the younger girl wasn't ready to be on her own yet. and she would never need to be, she wasn't going to kick nadia out, and jay had no problem with her staying either. she could have a pair of roommates for life if she wanted them. but erin had a feeling that one day she would spread her wings and fly, even if she didn't go very far.
she nodded, lips jut out before they smashed to one side. she was . . . mostly kidding about jay's snoring. but he did snore. a little. sometimes. that was erin's problem, not nadia's . . . except on the nights they all ended up passing out on a mountain of blankets in the living room. "i—" she trailed off with a laugh, shaking her head. "i will neither confirm or deny that accusation, brat," she teased, poking nadia's side. she tilted her head considering it before finally answering. "yeah . . . we'll share a sandwich. but we should make too, because it won't take sir-snores-a-lot long to realize i'm not in bed and start a search and rescue mission."
the forehead kiss was something so unfamiliar before erin - casual and gentle touches? it wasn't something she'd ever known before. and there erin lindsay was, acting like it was completely normal - and who knows? maybe it is. maybe it didn't have to be. whatever worked for their family of three, five counting olinsky and platt. they were always looking out for them, she knew she could always go to either of them if something was wrong. even if everything was wrong. but her go-to person? erin. her best friend, the sister she never had, but always used to pray for. standing right in front of her - holding out another iced water. "thanks," nadia smiles and takes a slower sip this time.
that might be part of the truth, but nadia hears what @1stresponders doesn't say. her nadia senses had been tingling - and while nadia doesn't want to bother, she appreciates it. a lot. so she gives another smile - then snorts at the mention of jay's snoring. "i didn't hear it, promise. you're the only one he keeps awake with that - but i have a feeling that's the least he does ... you know, to keep you from sleeping." giving a smirk and a wiggle of her brows. "do you want half a sandwich?" and with the question, follows a stomach growl. oops.

this was the craziest thing they ever done, like they were two teenagers in love. but they were adults who knew what they wanted. and matthew casey wanted gabriela dawson. except, he wanted her to take his name. gabriela casey. that was all he wanted. he asked her to marry him and she said yes. then she left. just like that, and casey was left standing in their house watching her leave with enough belongings to fill a duffel bag. that was it. she took his heart with her to— he didn't know if she would go to shay's or if she would go to antonio's. she wasn't at shay's, severide would have told him. so he figured out pretty quickly that she was living with her brother. so close, but so far away. he nodded as she repeated his words back to him. because he believed her. he believed that she loved him. and he belived that she was sorry. but he didn't even know what they were apologizing for anymore. they let work come between them, something they vowed would never happen.
"yes," he answered before she even got the question out. because he knew her better than he knew himself, and he knew what she was going to ask before she asked it. "come home gabby," he said it again, and he would keep saying it again and again until she did. he didn't miss all the promises she was making— talking rings and talking cradles. "i want all of that too. i never stopped." and he wasn't trying to make her feel bad for leaving. he didn't blame her. "there's nothing to forgive," he promised. "don't be sorry. "you needed space. you're allowed that. gabby, i would have waited forever for you to come home. it's you and me. i missed you," he told her, wiping her tears with his thumbs and kissing her forehead. "let's go home," he told her, opening the truck door so he could help her out.
it's a split moment before she's in his arms ... right across the center console, right into the lap of her best friend. her fiancé. she was there, he was there. all was right in the world again. gabriele soon-to-be casey was home again. so she cups his face, kissing him all over before finding his lips again. she shouldn't have left. she never should have, and she'd hated herself for it ever since she took the step out their front door. a few tears fall as she nods while he speaks. "i love you, i'm sorry, i love you." she repeats his words, each phrase with another kiss, just as he'd done for her. pressing her head against his. "i'm home, i'm home right here." rubbing his chest, right above his heart.
"do you think ..." it might be a stupid question, but she sucks in a breath and asks anyways. "can you forgive me? marry me still? i want you, i want this. i want to be your wife, matt. i want to come home." tears keep rolling as she wraps her arms around his neck, bringing herself closer to him. "i don't want to be dawson, barely at work. i want to be gabby to you, i want to be your wife, the mother of all your babies, i want this." kissing him slowly, deciding to just let the tears roll slowly down her cheeks as she holds him. everything she's been holding in. "i've been so stupid, matt. so stupid." she wonders if he can actually forgive her for this - the way he'd said her name before they began kissing? it sounded a lot like forgiveness. she wants to be his gabby - @1stresponders's wife, for the rest of her life. "i'm home, baby. if you'll have me."
