I beg. Please. Reread the books. I need the reliance on fanon to stop. Canon is right there.
No one “debated saving Nico”. They all agreed immediately to save him:
When Percy was dreaming of Nico trapped in the jar he said: “‘Nico,’ Percy said, ‘where is this place? We'll save you....’” - Literally the first time he sees Nico, he decides that they’re going to save him
Then after Percy tells everyone at the table, their reaction is: “‘The giants are trying to lure us," Annabeth said. ‘They're assuming we'll try to rescue him.’ / ‘Well, they're right!’ Hazel looked around the table, her confidence apparently crumbling. ‘Won't we?’ / ‘Yes!’ Coach Hedge yelled with a mouthful of napkins. ‘It'll involve fighting, right?’ / ‘Hazel, of course we'll help him,’ Frank said. ‘But how long do we have before... uh, I mean, how long can Nico hold out?’” - Of course Hazel agrees immediately, as does Coach Hedge and Frank
After discussing the seeds, Piper says: “‘That's not much time,’ Piper summed up. She put her hand on Hazel's shoulder. ‘We'll find him. At least we know what the lines of the prophecy mean now. 'Twins snuff out the angel's breath, who holds the key to endless death.' Your brother's last name: di Angelo. Angelo is Italian for 'angel.'’” - Piper agrees immediately and brings up the prophecy which reaffirms the importance of Nico and a key part he plays in the quest, which means they need to save him
Percy introspection and final vocal agreement: “Percy stared at his jelly donut. He had a rocky history with Nico di Angelo. The guy had once tricked him into visiting Hades's palace, and Percy had ended up in a cell. But most of the time, Nico sided with the good guys. He certainly didn't deserve slow suffocation in a bronze jar, and Percy couldn't stand seeing Hazel in pain. ‘We'll rescue him,’ he promised her. ‘We have to. The prophecy says he holds the key to endless death.’” - Which is the set up for what people are actually in such an uproar about, the questioning of Nico’s loyalty even though the question is completely valid as Percy points out here. Nico is more a rogue agent, he does his own thing like when he lured Percy down to the Underworld to receive information about his mother. Sure he didn’t know what Hades would do, but Percy didn’t know there was a deviation to the plan in the first place - a plan in which he was already risking his life, trusting in Nico only to be betrayed even if Nico didn’t mean for it to be one.
Argo II scoreboard right now is 5/8 vocally agreeing to save him, no matter what the rest say, the votes are in favor of a rescue mission, especially with the importance the prophecy places on Nico. The only ones who haven’t vocally agreed to save him are Annabeth, Leo, and Jason.
Leo starts the vocal questioning of the safety and security of the plan: “‘Uh...’ Leo shifted in his chair. ‘One thing. The giants are expecting us to do this, right? So we're walking into a trap?’ / Hazel looked at Leo like he'd made a rude gesture. ‘We have no choice!’” - Leo is simply questioning the plan and Hazel reacts viscerally because she’s so focused in on Nico being in danger that the slightest hesitation seems like a worse problem than it is. Nothing against Hazel, I’d react the same way if it was my brother, but still Leo never said “let’s not save this emo loser” he’s just saying that there is a clear threat posed here that they’re walking right up to
Leo and Jason voice the same opinion: “‘Don't get me wrong, Hazel. It's just that your brother, Nico... he knew about both camps, right?’ / ‘Well, yes,’ Hazel said. / ‘He's been going back and forth,’ Leo said, ‘and he didn't tell either side.’ / Jason sat forward, his expression grim. ‘You're wondering if we can trust the guy. So am I.’” - They don’t question saving him, they question the plan and Nico’s loyalty. For good reason. Again, Nico is established more as a rogue agent. Who’s to say he didn’t side with the giants and is in cahoots with them to lure the Seven into this trap for Gaea to bring Bianca or his mother back? They’re pointing out concerns and questions, it’d be idiotic to go into this situation with a half-baked plan and no backups if they don’t consider all possibilities and Nico’s loyalty has always been up in the air which is a huge red flag in this situation
Climax of the “debate”: “Hazel shot to her feet. ‘I don't believe this. He's my brother. He brought me back from the Underworld, and you don't want to help him?’ / Frank put his hand on her shoulder. ‘Nobody's saying that.’ He glared at Leo. ‘Nobody had better be saying that.’ / Leo blinked. ‘Look, guys. All I mean is-‘ / ‘Hazel,’ Jason said. ‘Leo is raising a fair point. I remember Nico from Camp Jupiter. Now I find out he also visited Camp Half-Blood. That does strike me as... well, a little shady. Do we really know where his loyalties lie? We just have to be careful.’” - And then Hazel blows up and storms off. Frank reassured Hazel that no one was saying that then gave Leo the push to make it clear that wasn’t what he was saying and that’s what Leo was going to do (clarifying his point) before Jason cuts in and defends Leo from the offense that Hazel is on. He reaffirms that they’re just questioning his loyalty, they have to be careful when going to rescue him, they never said they would leave him to suffocate and rot.
Please stop this propaganda and reread the books or at least the wiki. I swear fanon has y’all in a goddamn chokehold.
Anyways, here’s the apology scene so y’all will maybe shut up:
“‘…Sometimes demigods make bad choices.’ He looked sheepishly at Hazel. ‘Like sometimes we're too suspicious. And we speak without thinking.’ / Hazel stared at him. Slowly it seemed to dawn on her that he was apologizing. / Jason elbowed Leo. / ‘Ow!’ Leo yelped. ‘I mean, yeah...bad choices. Like not trusting people's brothers who, you know, might need saving. Hypothetically speaking.’” - Apologizing for being suspicious and not trusting Nico, not apologizing for not wanting to save him, apologizing for their suspicious words against Nico’s loyalties hurting Hazel

Like???? I’m actually so annoyed and confused on the logic behind this approach because what are we even doing? The whole advantage of the TV format was to afford more time to dive into the story and see deeper development of our favorite characters, but I guess development is only reserved for the characters Disney cares about and literally no one else. And I can’t even say that they did THAT effectively, because by and large, the character development for almost every character in S1 sucked! So again, what are we even doing!?

Bro, I’m actually going to start screaming.
What do you mean ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ cameo!?!??! Rachel and Percy literally have an entire ass fucking conversation! And her presence in Titan’s Curse is supposed to be thematically and narratively related to Aphrodite’s foreboding promise of not making Percy’s love life easy! Rachel’s appearance is literally the beginnings of Aphrodite’s actions manifesting!
RICHARD I AM IN YOUR WALLS; DON’T PISS ME OFF!!!?!?!

Yo, this shit pissed me off so much 😭
Like what do you mean your golden couple is too cool to have PTSD, but Nico, Rick’s dumping ground character for all things trauma, is still experiencing it as a demigod?
Diversity Win 🥳🎉/s
AND
Diversity win/s: make subtly ableist comment about ptsd and only the queer char has it...

I am once again begging y’all not to support the HTTYD live action remake in theaters. The more these remakes succeed, the longer we’ll be stuck in this story-recycling era of Hollywood, in which studio execs think their animated stories need to ‘graduate’ to live action.

I love the idea of Annabeth being the child of a god/goddess who doesn’t have a cabin at camp. As an alternative to Métis, I think Annabeth would have made an excellent child of Techne (minor goddess of craft and skill). It suits all of Annabeth’s skills, and:
- it would have made her and Luke’s relationship even closer, because now he would have also been her counselor, she would have spent ample time with him, and she would feel his loss in the cabin a lot harder.
- It would enhance her “finding a place where she belongs” arc, because her not having a cabin would exacerbate that.
- it would also enhance her “trying to prove herself” arc, because as a minor goddess kid, she would be less likely to receive any quests, and people would underestimate her because they don’t think she’s as cool or powerful as the children of the Olympians. To enhance the angst, maybe Annabeth could be the only minor god kid in the entire camp.
- It would be an interesting point of contrast with Thalia, Percy, and Nico, since they’re all children of the most important gods in Olympus while Annabeth is the child of a goddess most people haven’t even heard of
- Her receiving the chance to rebuild Olympus would be monumental, because it’s the first time a minor god kid has received an honor that major
- It would make her more sympathetic to Luke and Ethan’s complaints, because she understands how they feel
- It would make Percy’s request for the minor gods to get cabins mean that much more
- Janus’s choice could maybe also have referred to Techne asking Annabeth to join Luke and the army of Kronos because that’s where all the minor gods are going, and Annabeth has to decide whether to say no or not
Hot take: Annabeth didn’t need to be the daughter of Athena in order to be smart
Hear me out - this isn't shade against Athena herself nor Annabeth, but this decision Rick made for them is, at best, mythological wrong and, at worst, offensive.
Athena is known to be a virgin goddess, just like Hestia and Artemis, so even having children from her thoughts breaks her vow. So Annabeth (and the others) shouldn't be born from Athena.
Before someone goes 'But who would be a better fit?' Or 'There isn't anyone better for her!' I actually have some other godly parents suited for our Wise Girl that let her still be smart, gives her cool powers, AND add layers for her and the series.
1. Apollo
This one was the easiest because Apollo is also a god of knowledge like Athena, and he isn't considered a virgin god, unlike our owl godess. Plus, you can have other talents for Annabeth to practice AND more angst when they (the other Apollo kids) all died in the Battle of Manhattan
2. Ares
This one I thought on the fly - while he isn't known for wisdom or knowledge like the others on the list, he's a pretty good contender for Annabeth’s godly parent. He's known of battle smarts/strategy AND bravery, and Ares kids aren't just blood thirsty fighters. They can be quiet, gather information, and spy on the enemy. It's perfect for Annabeth, plus her Hubris makes more sense and her need to be validated by her godly parent (Fuck PJO Ares, Mytho Ares is better)
3. Metis
This one was also easy to pick. Metis is the mother of Athena AND also associated with wisdom and knowledge. Plus, considering she doesn't have a cabin despite giving birth to an Olympian goddess, it'll give angst to Annabeth’s character and her place in Camp, adding on to WHY minor gods are just as important as the Olympian Gods. (BTW, Shape Shifting is a part of Metis's Domain, so Annabeth can have cool powers!!)
4. Coeus
This one I found from research. Coeus is the Titan of Intellect and the Axis of Heaven. And he's known to be smarter than Metis and Athena combined! Plus, if you add in the fact that the first series stars the Titans as antagonists, MORE angst of Annabeth’s character, and like I said for Metis, it shows why we shouldn't alienate the other gods, primordials and titans JUST because they're not Olympians
5. A Champion child
If you still want to keep Athena as Annabeth's godly parent, try this- make her Athena's Champion.
Like in my DGAF au, Athena blessed Annabeth as a baby as a gift for her parents. That way, Annabeth could still be related to Athena without breaking the vow.
That's all I have for now, thank you for reading.
*Maybe I should make this a side series?

Salty Predictions for PJOTV S2
- Tyson will undergo a personality transplant
- they’re going to avoid showing his eye as much as possible
- the dodgeball scene will be toned down or altogether eliminated to do more exposition
- They’re going to maintain Annabeth’s prejudice against cyclops and Percy being mad at her for it, but not think about the optics of a black girl being berated by a white boy for her prejudice against another white boy
- the show will once again ignore any development or fleshing out for the rest of camp half blood; we probably won’t get to meet any of the other counselors
- Grover will continue getting sidelined so Percabeth can have the spotlight
- The ship explosion will probably be changed to limit need for heavy CGI and SFX
- Clarisse’s character development will be barebones
- Athena’s characterization will be done dirty
- Poseidon will continue being portrayed as this sweet, loving, soft teddy bear who can do no wrong
- Tyson’s backstory will be changed to avoid making Poseidon look bad in any way, shape, or form
- Percy will somehow know Circe’s trick before she reveals it, and/or he’ll figure it out with no clues or deductive process. Either way, Percy will end up expositing her own backstory to her
- the emotions involved in the siren scene are going to be changed
- Annabeth will continue being girl-bossified with her moments of vulnerability and sentimentality severely limited
- Annabeth and Luke’s relationship will continue to be barebones
- Percy will continue offering himself up as a sacrificial lamb at every opportunity he gets
- the humor will continue to be lacking
- anything remotely whimsical or fun will be eliminated
- the gods will continue to appear extremely mundane and uninteresting
- they’re going to shove in more gods that don’t actually need to be here

Here are my opinions on what went wrong with The Seven + Nico and Reyna in terms of character writing.
Percy: The guy himself. A lot of potential but even in PJO his development and arc could’ve been a lot better for someone who had 5 books worth of page time (literally). The ball was dropped on his characterisation and depth multiple times throughout PJO, and Heroes of Olympus didn’t help any of his issues (writing or otherwise).
Annabeth: She was amazing up until Sea of Monsters. But tTC onwards, she’s been on a constant downward slope (all through HoO) and her arc and development have hung fire since.
Jason: I really wish Riordan would've thought things through with and actually cared about Jason.
Piper: Such a huge mess, don't know where to begin...
Frank and Hazel: Neglect; they got the worst of it. That's the classic punishment for lack of popularity (see also: Jason).
Leo: One word - Caleo
Nico: On a similar note as Leo, Solangelo was his bane as a character, even if the fandom won't admit it.
Reyna: Amazing in BoO, gone for a complete toss in ToA.
Please feel free to add.

I saw someone on my fy talking about how criticisms of the new books aren't valid because these books are written for kids and it's normal for someone who is not a kid to dislike them. I didn't want to rb them because I didn't want them to feel targeted or attacked, I'm not trying to be mean or start fights, but I also wanted to post my opinion about this,,
the way i see it, the first five pjo books and the majority of the hoo books were also written for children and they're still... well-written. even now at my big big age I can re read those books and enjoy them. but the new ones are predictable, sloppy, mischaracterised, full of continuity errors, poorly edited and feature more piss/fart jokes than any of the first books... and I think it's okay to criticise that. in fact I think it's important to recognise the decline in quality because it's becoming clear that rick isn't writing these books because he loves the story or the characters anymore, he's writing them for sales and relevancy.
you do not have to sacrifice the quality of your book to market it for children. complex characters and interesting plots are not specific to adult books, children deserve to read good books.

Looks like some sleuths found leaked info regarding the sequel to The Sun & The Star that Rick and Mark revealed earlier this year (or last year? Can’t remember; everything since the U.S. election has felt like a giant blur).
Anyhow, I’m glad Hazel and Nico’s relationship is actually getting some relevance again. Hope this one is better than the first book. :/
