[Honestly not sure what to do with this blog or any of my others these days, may leave it up as an archive if I do abandon Tumblr as a platform because like 2 people have said they still want to look through my work. Does not mean I don't care about roleplaying as a whole, but...

I've been increasingly burnt out on writing for about a year and a half now and let me tell you, taking like 4 consecutive hours to finish a single post is not what I would call fun. It's either that or I stare blankly at a screen for months knowing I could write the words I needed to if I just had time or energy or...IDK probably not college and personal life sapping my will to live. If it's a chore and it's not literally essential to my survival, I tend to ignore it. This has led to several people sending me death threats; honestly I prefer the ones who insult and then block me more. At least they're honest. I don't know when this will be better, I don't know when I'll enjoy LITERALLY ANYTHING again if I'm being candid. Do what you will with that information, because I honestly don't care what others think of me. Already know I'm a horrible person.

Maybe 2026 will be better, but I'm not terribly optimistic and also seriously doubt I'll even live until 2026.]

name meaning: Literally named after Boris Karloff and Basil Rathbone. Basil is a plant, also.

alias/es: Clayface, or Clayface I.

ethnicity: Mostly German and Indian-American [as a nod to Boris Karloff]. Other than that, we don't know specifics.

I've said it on Discord forever ago so technically not cheating, but he is wholly immune to prion diseases. He simply out-mutates the prions.

Other voiceclaims I'd considered for him were Tony Jay and Tim Curry. Eventually I decided the vocal dissonance of having him be mainly voiced by Vincent Price was too good to pass up.

I've implied it, but he suffers from pretty bad Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, or wet brain disease, due to a lifetime of alcoholism. More on that here. It's bad, yes, but he has been convinced to try and get help.

three things your character likes doing in their free time:

Drinking. Dear god, drinking. It started off as a way to numb the pain of his nerve endings being on fire, but of course the 1900's just spurred on social drinking as a movement overall.

Providing snarky commentary on any situation ever. He revels in being a catty gay.

Just vibing NGL. Gotham is a very hectic place, and Basil is old as shit despite the powers offering a physical boost. Boy needs a break sometimes!

eight people your character likes / loves:

[main AU and in any AUs where I happen to write them both] Viktor Albrektsson Fries/Mr. Freeze. They're in an awkward polycule with Nora. Literal ride or die.

Sondra Fuller. The only child he doesn't view as a parasite, for whatever reason. Honestly, even I don't really know why he immediately latched onto Sondra. Perhaps it's because she reminds him of himself.

@enignoema he's quite fond of Riddler. Quite. It's genuinely rare people get beneath that exterior and tragically Eddie has captivated him.

Film Freak as a broad general. Fuck yeah, a loser who only speaks in movie references.

[NPC] Thierry Baudin. Arguably the first person he ever truly loved and wasn't just using as a means to an end. Baudin had a dark side to him, one he tried to only express in his camerawork.

@ people: yeah IDK interact with me more?? Shrug. My characters don't know a whole lot of people on the Tumblr side of things.

two things your character regrets:

Not killing his father.

At his lowest moments, the fact he wasn't the one who died. He managed to hide his having AIDS, as he was somewhat sickly to begin with.

Being alone. He'll never cop to it, though. Who is he when he isn't performing? I don't think he knows; maybe he never knew.

And if she had asked him, she'd have found that he didn't know. Maybe he hadn't known for a long time. Or hell, maybe he'd never known to begin with, everything definite washed away in salt and copious amounts of liquor. In heady cigar smoke and a little blood. A blur. But Basil's far from dim. For a moment, the flesh composing his body ripples, shudders violently as if it's about to rend itself in two in reaction to the electric current in the air. Basil spits derisively at the ground, the corner of his lip curling. "They'd bury us." Whether that's more of a hypothetical in and of itself is unclear. "Shove us deep in the annals of history never to see the light of day again, simply because that's what they do." With the tip of his cane, he scuffs the cracked stone beneath him. A piece of concrete comes free, falling to the side, and he seems to focus on it for a little while. "And I'm glad for it; that's hardly a way to live. Still, one does wonder how they can even stand being in the same room as each other."

Basil looks in her direction, only he doesn't really. He never quite does, never quite looks at anyone; still, those clouded eyes burn and they burn deep and dark. And he feels her gaze on his lined face, piercing as usual.

For once, he is quiet for a few moments, slowly contemplating her question. "It's an interesting dilemma," he mused aloud. "For the likes of the Justice League, anyways. I have very often wondered if they'd like to 'rehabilitate' us, put us in asinine uniforms and have us work for them and whatnot. As for ourselves?" A chuckle, honey-sweet and slow. The marquee frames him quite nicely, seamlessly illustrating his hulking frame like he was posing for a poster again. "Well, I think we both know the answer to that, don't we?"

Today's a day for questions. Everything's turned upside down in this city, sometimes. "I think it would be very boring," and as that last word leaves his mouth, he grimaces.

[OUGH debating on whether it's worth it to block the Batman: Caped Crusader tag + hide all Basil content on Tumblr because I haven't watched the show and have no idea when I'll be able to. I am quite excited how it's returning back to basics with how he's portrayed though, and I've said as much before. But at the same time, I manage to have an activity level of being online maybe like once every 1-3 months. And I genuinely don't use Discord anymore except to check in on the server I co-own with a friend of 7 years + occasionally DM people when I remember that the DMing feature exists/don't feel awkward for not having talked to them in months.]

Also not sure why multiple people have come into my inbox accusing me of faking my dissociative disorder, it's not like I personally choose to spend 60% of my days not knowing wtf is going on ever and just smiling and nodding my way through life because it would take too long to ask for help.]
