[Goes for all my blogs but I don't feel like endlessly crossposting at the moment as I'm like half paying attention to Tumblr and half making chili: if I ever don't reply to an ask/RP, or if I don't send in an ask that I planned to send - A) I follow literally 70 people, half of whom don't follow me back, have never interacted with me, and whom I should probably unfollow. That'll probably take the better part of a day to sort out and I just haven't had the time. B) re. threads, asks, whatnot: Tumblr still has the problem of liking to eat my asks. Sometimes I'll get an email notification that somebody asked a question in the first place but it's not often because this website is a coder's nightmare. Also I probably just flat-out forgot given my habit of tapping out for several months at a time and could use a gentle reminder. In addition, I'm always more available on Discord at leaveawhisperr. I moderate several RP servers so am pretty much guaranteed to be online at least once a week. C) sometimes I just don't send stuff because the prompts you're posting are too intimate for our characters' level of relationship and I'm as yet unsure how to broach the subject of dynamics.]

Thematic Headcanons // hc + 💰 for a money-themed headcanon?

There was a fairly lengthy period of time [about 10 years] right after he'd turned into what he is now where all of Basil's accounts were frozen, if only because the government didn't believe that he still existed and were convinced that someone had stolen the identity of a dead man. Thankfully, by that time, he was fairly old and had long since paid off his house with the money he'd gained from acting; he'd little to worry about in terms of anything like a mortgage, but he still had bills to pay and was effectively roughing it in his own home. He doesn't much like talking about it, as he doesn't look back on that period with any fondness.

I [the mun] could, frankly, probably have a more nuanced discussion on this if I actually did drag or understood the drag world like I've said my interpretation of the character does, but honestly? Shapeshifting being a cheap cop-out aside, Basil just is not inherently cis. Do I have any idea what he is in a technical sense, no. Do I care? Kind of, yeah, would be nice to have the words for it as I personally just enjoy describing things. But he has no qualms with being called a man/viewed as masculine, and views himself as gay in the "man attracted to a man" definition. Best I can do is old Hollywood personified, with all the glossy, glittery veneers it promised. There's something distinctly fake to it, like it's a mask; he's more abstract concept of monster than a man, anyway. And if nothing else, he doesn't really care what people call him, but will only use she/her for himself if in drag or simply if to make a point.

Things I really could stand to do something more with: Basil nicknaming damn near everyone he meets after a form of bird. I do occasionally throw it in a post or two but I've never officially stated he does that. So may as well clear the air now.

He merely snorts. Mary held her liquor damn near as well as he did, and that was saying quite a lot given both matters of their drastic size difference and his own generally wacky physiology. The cane he's carrying drops from the crook of one arm and subsequently unfolds with a bright, sharp shink, its end settling on the weathered wood of the bar floor. Hell, he'd have let her touch him without complaint. She was about the only person who could get away with it, anyhow. Basil has known her for long enough to pick up on that energy in an instant. He motions towards the entrance with a hand; there's enough of a chill coming in through the poorly-patched crack in the window so as for him to feel it. "What a coincidence, my dear. So do I." There's something unnerving about his smile, and maybe there always has been. "Now, shall we officially take our leave? I find it's getting a tad stuffy in here."

"And if luck would have it," the corner of his great mouth twitched as he set the emptied glass back down on the bar countertop. "All four of those. Me, I'm betting more on microplastics. I'm no scientist, but plastic is in every atom of our bodies." His nose wrinkles. "Soon we won't even need Botox or facelifts; simply draw all of the plastic to the surface and mold it into shape. Stretch skin over it, whatnot." Basil too gets up, the chair he's vacated groaning from the sudden shift in weight. It's a miracle the damned thing doesn't splinter. "I think I must have minded, once." His hand clenches around nothing. "Or, at least I minded the people calling me vile. Ultimately, the joke was on them." Parasites lived, indeed. "We are but monsters. And I can think of nothing else I'd rather be."

Which tend to burn me out when it comes to writing for fun, like, if I've just written 4K words of humanities whatnot why would I want to stare at a screen for a billion more hours??]
