Stephanie Quayle Finds Herself At Home With New EP, "If I Was a Cowboy"

Stephanie Quayle is most at home amongst the open fields and blue skies of Bozeman, Montana, from which she hails. That way of life is exactly what the blonde beauty so eloquently brought to her latest EP, If I Was a Cowboy. The title track, written by Shane McAnally, Nicolle Galyon, and Ross Copperman, was the catalyst that enabled Stephanie to incorporate her hometown roots into the EP. "This is what I've been looking for," said Stephanie, whose previous singles include "Drinking with Dolly," "Winnebago" and "Selfish." "That sound, that something, that identifier, that makes me, me. Authentic to my Western ways and still feels modern, and still feels fresh." While the EP is an evolution in the singer's sound, it's more representative of her than ever before. Showcasing that cowboy way of life, is about more than just being a cowboy, it's a state of mind for Stephanie. "The state of mind is, you don't have time to overthink it, because it could be life and death. Also that cowboy state of mind is being able to let go quicker," Stephanie tells One Country. "And there have absolutely been times in my life, relationships personally and in business where I should've walked away sooner, and let my heart heal faster. That is part of that cowboy state of mind."

Another theme running though the EP is that of second chances, represented in songs "Second Rodeo," and "Evel Knievel," where Stephanie implores listeners to get back in the saddle and try again. "I live that way," Stephanie shares."I want that for everyone. I don't ever want anyone to fall victim to being a victim, no matter what happens. Fight your way for you out of it. So yes, there is the theme. I am a little thematic and I like it." The new EP, available now, follows Stephanie's 2017 album, Love the Way You See Me?, and features her current single, "Whatcha Drinkin' 'Bout," about getting to the bottom of the reason people are drinking. "Because everybody is drinking about something." ] One Country sat down with Stephanie to get her take on the new tracks that make up the Ep, If I Was a Cowboy. Here's what she had to say: 1. "If I was a Cowboy" - "For me a thousand percent cowboy state of mind. Now because we've shot the music video. And we shot that in Montana, and it has all this stuff in it that I reflect on, that's swinging doors to me. I think of swinging doors, and that is get back up on your horse" ï»ż 2. "Evel Knievel" - "Run like a wild horse, chasing that sun even, if you're all out. The chorus is everything to me. The bridge of that song though is what gets me choked up. The bridge is where it's like, 'it takes one part crazy, one part leap of faith.' I mean I think anyone in any business, that's striving for these wild aspirations, whatever it may be, you feel that way. Am I crazy to be doing this? Maybe it all fell apart, but somehow I'm going to keep going." ï»ż 3. "Whatcha Drinkin' 'Bout" - "This song has been a bit of a surprise, because I'm one of the writers on it, and I didn't know its potency until we got in the studio and recorded it with the full band. I love the play on what you thinking about. And to watch this song on the fans faces since we started playing out, the first chorus they're singing along. It's just one of those simple songs that makes you think. Everybody is drinking about something, and it's so much fun." ï»ż 4. "Second Rodeo" - "Ain't nobody got their s**t together. I mean, it is the truest statement. I sang that line on the microphone when were recording this, probably a thousand times, because it brought me so much joy swearing on the microphone. And I think that we all look at others like they have it all together. And sometimes perception creates a reality that might not be really what it is. So I think it's really important for us to all recognize that everyone's going through something." ï»ż 5. "Untitled" - As soon as we recorded that, we knew that that would be the last song on whatever form we did. If we did an EP or an album, that would be its continuation, because I think there is so many unchartered songs and musical adventures to come. And we have so many songs we haven't even been able to share yet." ï»ż If I was a Cowboy is available now. Music Man Taylor Hicks Continues His Longstanding Tradition of Giving Back to Our Veterans

From the moment he won the fifth season of American Idol, Taylor Hicks has let his heart lead him in his musical journey. And recently, that heart of his led him to the organization NS2 Serves. NS2 ServesÂź is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization whose purpose is to give back to the community it serves by training and employing veterans in high-tech careers. The course is open to post-9/11 U.S. military service veterans and reservists (including disabled veterans), service members with orders to leave active duty, and Gold Star spouses who meet eligibility requirements. From October 10-24, Hicks will not only tour across the East Coast, but he will be also donating a pair of tickets and meet-and-greet packages for all six shows to a silent auction that will directly benefit NS2 Serves. Recently, One Country sat down with the soulful music man to talk about his work with NS2 Serves and why these opportunities are making his career more fulfilling than ever right now. ONE COUNTRY: Can you tell us a little more about how you hooked up with NS2 Serves? TAYLOR HICKS: â(NS2 Serves PR consultant) Laurie Baker works there and we have been really close for a long time. She has done work in that space for over a decade, so when she explained to me about NS2 Serves, I knew I wanted to somehow get involved. This is by far the most effective and most brilliantly laid out veteran program I have seen her with. This organization is just common sense, with a lot of people working together to do something amazing.â ONE COUNTRY: Working with veterans is something you have done for years. How have your interactions with the service men and women of our country changed you? TAYLOR HICKS: âLuckily for me, I have been able to travel all over the world and I have been able to see how much the cost of freedom actually costs. I grew up with people who were in the service. These are the people we have to take care of. I think everyone should have access to see a third world country to see what the cost of freedom truly is. Itâs always struck a chord with me.â ONE COUNTRY: It must be cool to use your music in a way in which you not only entertain people, but you find a way to give back. TAYLOR HICKS: âDefinitely. These intimate shows we are going to be doing is a great way to have a veteran come out and enjoy a night of good music. Itâs the least I can do.â ONE COUNTRY: We hear rumblings that new music is just around the corner. Can you confirm? TAYLOR HICKS: âIâve spent about the last year and a half recording at Zac Brownâs Southern Ground studio in Nashville. Itâs such a great space to record in. And yes, new music is coming and Iâm really excited about it. I want this upcoming record to be a true representation of who I am and who I have always wanted to be. You can pigeon hole the sound of a lot of people these days, but you canât pigeon hole me. (Laughs.)â ONE COUNTRY: So very true. Itâs almost as if this is the perfect time for your brand of music, don't you think? TAYLOR HICKS: âI definitely think so. I mean, look at some of the artists that are out there right now like Chris Stapleton and Tyler Childers. The sincerity of the song itself is coming back.â To view the tour dates and place a bid on ticket packages, please visit: bidpal.net/taylorhicks Read the full article

Matt Stell Shares Behind the Song Story For No. 1 Hit "Prayed For You"

Matt Stell has a lot to celebrate this week, including the fact that his current single 'Prayed For You" hit the No. 1 spot on the Billboard country airplay charts, marking the only debut single from an artist to hit the top spot on Country Airplay in 2019 . Penned by Matt, Ash Bowers and Allison Veltz, "Prayed For You" takes on the all too relatable story of a guy praying for that special someone before he's even met her. "'Cause every single day, before I knew your name / I couldn't see your face, but I prayed for you / Every heartbreak trail when all hope fell / On the highway to hell, I prayed for you / I kept my faith like that old King James / Said I'm supposed to / It's hard to imagine, bigger than I could fathom / I didn't know you from Adam but I prayed for you," he sings in the chorus. Todd Chrisleyâs Daughter Savannah and Her Boyfriend Star in Romantic Music Video for Matt Stellâs âPrayed for Youâ] As part of the Grand Ole Opry's The Set List, Matt sat down for an exclusive interview to discuss the story behind the song that takes into account experiences from all three writers. "I wrote 'Prayed For You' with two of my best friends here in town, and Ash and I were waiting on the third co-writer, Allison to get to the write," Matt shares in the Opry clip. "She called and said, 'Hey, I'm running late but I've got this idea.' She showed up with what turned out to be the hook and the back half of the chorusâ'more than I can fathom , didn't know you from Adam but I prayed for you.' He continued, "So she brought that to the table and she had just met her husband about a week before so she was in that frame of mind. We just kind of interjected our life experiences and all our relationships and wrote a song with a character that's a lot like me who's a lot luckier than he deserves in a lot of different ways, including relationships." RaeLynn Says Final Farewell to Her Beloved Service Dog Jazz

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to âGod Made Girlsâ singer, RaeLynn. The sweet, petite entertainerâs beloved service dog, Jazz, died after a lengthy battle with cancer. In an emotional post on her Instagram page, RaeLynn shared several photos and videos of the well-behaved and masterfully trained German Shepherd. In the caption, she wrote about her deep love of her furbaby: ] âMe and this Dog have traveled the world together. Iâve never felt so loved or protected by an animal in my life. When Josh was gone Jazzâs presence always made me feel ok and protected. Iâm gonna miss his kisses, sleeping by me at airports, walking with him and josh, getting woken up by him and Dolly, Iâm gonna miss him never leaving my sight when he was with me but most of all Iâm gonna miss his sweet heart and presence. Iâm broken-hearted. I wish dogs could live forever. Iâm praying for peace. I am thankful that he has no more pain.â The seven-year-old canine, who came to live with the couple in 2016, was more than just a family pet, protector and companion. He was a service dog for RaeLynn who has Type 1 diabetes. Jazz was trained to sense when his ownerâs sugar levels are imbalanced and could even wake her if she needed treatment. "Jazz you are the reason Diabetes isn't too bad to have," Raelynn wrote alongside a photo of her and Jazz. RaeLynn and her husband, Josh Davis, who is in the military, also have a smaller pup, Dolly, that accompanies the singer on the road as well. Our thoughts are with RaeLynn at this time. Bobby Bones Adds His Support to a Cause Near and Dear to His Heart

Multimedia personality Bobby Bones is one busy man. From his hosting gig on the nationally syndicated radio show The Bobby Bones Show to his return to American Idol as a full time mentor, the Arkansas native and reigning Dancing with the Stars champion is literally always on the run. But he will always stop for a cause that means something to him. Indeed, as an avid philanthropist, Bones has helped raise millions of dollars for various causes such as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, veteran initiatives, and much more. And now, the two-time NY Times #1 bestselling author and stand-upcomedian has decided to devote some of his precious time to a cause close to his heart. Purina Dog Chow recently kicked off their second annual "Service Dog Salute" campaign to pay tribute to our country's veterans and the loyal dogs that serve them. Up to 30 percent of American military veterans experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after returning home from combat, according to the National Institute of Health. Yet, very few ask for the help that they so desperately need. And Bones wants to change that. ONE COUNTRY: You have always been such a dog lover. What have your dogs offered you throughout your life? BOBBY BONES: âLetâs just say that I never told a girl I loved her, but I have told two dogs that I loved them. (Laughs.) Because of my dogs, I guess you could say that I found love somewhere, even if it means they poop in my bed. (Laughs.) ONE COUNTRY: But seriously, dogs have really helped you get through the rough times of your life, right? BOBBY BONES: "Oh yeah, Iâve had issues with anxiety and anxiety attacks and thatâs really why I got my first dog. Basically, my therapist told me to." ONE COUNTRY: What was it about Purina Dog Chowâs second annual âService Dog Saluteâ that made you want to get involved? BOBBY BONES: âWell obviously, I love dogs. Iâve done a lot throughout the years with different dog charities, but the more I heard about the âService Dog Salute,â the more I knew that it was something I wanted to get involved with. I mean, I never knew how expensive service dogs were! I also wanted to get out there and make sure that veterans know how to get these service dogs if they need them. These service men and women need to be treated like the heroes that they are. ONE COUNTRY: You have always been a proud military supporter, havenât you? BOBBY BONES: âBelieve me when I tell you this. I know that I get to do what I do because these veterans fought for my freedom. I get to say dumb things for a living because they have fought to give me that right.â ONE COUNTRY: What can fans do right now to help in this effort? BOBBY BONES: âFrom now until November 1, you can go to the store and buy specially-marked bags of Dog Chow Complete Adult.  For every purchase, Dog Chow will make a donation, up to $100,000, to Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) and their Pets and Vets program. You can also just use this as an opportunity to tell a veteran who is curious about getting a service dog more about how these service dogs can help combat the symptoms of PTSD. If you or a veteran you know could benefit from a service dog, or to learn more about Dog Chow's efforts, visit DogChow.com/service. ï»ż Read the full article

Blake Shelton Takes A Stand With Bold Statement About Craig Morgan's New Song

Jockeying for chart positions at country radio is no joke. Record label promotions teams spend their time on the phone or flying around the country to meet with radio execs to encourage them to play their artistâs song or to play it more. Blake Shelton might be Craig Morganâs best promoter. At the very least, heâs a dang good friend. ] Blake currently has two songs climbing the country radio chartsââHell Rightâ with Trace Adkins and âDive Barâ with Garth Brooks, but in a post on Twitter, heâs asking radio to play Craigâs recently released single, âThe Father, My Son, and the Holy Ghost.â ï»ż The Oklahoma country star shared a link to the song on his Twitter page and very boldly declared, âI would gladly give up my spot on country radio to get this song on. Wow @cmorganmusic , you blow me away brother. Thereâs nothing easy or fun about writing a song like this but sometimes itâs just something you gotta do.â Craig penned the song following the untimely death of his son, Jerry, in a boating accident three years ago. The inspired ballad describes what it is like for a family to carry on in the aftermath of such a gutting loss. Response from fans, including Blake, has been overwhelming. Multiple fans of both Blake and Craig left messages of support, along with comments and prayers on the singerâs post. One follower called it âthe best song written in decades,â while many others were reduced to tears. It has been a few years since Craig had a Top 20 at country radio, but an endorsement like BlakeâsâŠand a whole bunch of great fansâŠis hard to ignore. Fingers crossed! Read the full article

Dolly Parton Joins For KING & COUNTRY On Anthem of Acceptance

Most of us have seen the meme bearing the quote, âBe kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battleâ from Ian Maclaren and in For KING & COUNTRYâs single, âGod Only Knows,â that message of understanding and acceptance is mirrored and set to music. The song was originally released to Christian radio in January, but is being re-released with the addition of Dolly Parton on the track. âWhen I first heard âGod Only Knowsâ I thought it was one of the best songs Iâd ever heard,â says Dolly. âI came from a very spiritual background, and I love anything to do with inspirational songs that lift people up. I feel that this is a good song for right now, and itâs so well written. I know that it touched me at a time when I needed to be lifted up.ïżœïżœ

The duoâs Joel Smallbone adds, âHearing Dolly sing that chorus and those words was an out of body experience for us as writers and artists. As soon as we heard her vocals on the track, we immediately realized that this song was meant for her voice.â But Dolly took it a step further by appearing in a new music video with Joel and Luke. The video features each of the remarkable vocalists in a different vignette observing someone struggling with their own demons. However, they offer hope, acceptance, redemption and love in the lyrics: âGod only knows what youâve been through / God only knows what they say about you / God only knows the real you /But thereâs a kind of love that God only knows.â ï»ż Read the full article

Runaway June Goes Back In Time For New Video, "Buy My Own Drinks" [Watch]

Itâs always fun to see how a music video director is going to interpret a song. Sometimes itâs very literal, other times itâs a performance piece, and still other times itâs an imaging piece to further enforce the artistâs brand. With Runaway Juneâs new video for âBuy My Own Drinks,â it seems that Jennifer Wayne, Hannah Mulholland, and Naomi Cooke, along with the production team, are attempting to show us just how these women came to be the empowered singers of their newest single. ï»ż Showing each of the talented and beautiful young women enjoying a favorite hobby, from Hannahâs love of painting to Jenniferâs obsession with dogs, to Naomiâs unwavering passion for music. The video flashes back to vignettes of them enjoying those same pastimes even as young girls on a youthful scale. âThe 'Little Junes' were the perfect way to capture that carefree feeling of returning to your inner child and getting a little wild," said Naomi Cooke."In doing, that we can find true liberation." The video also reflects that each member of the trio was deeply invested in a musical career early in life, and as the frames flash back and forth from adults to children, it results in one heckuva girlâs night in. It also explains why Runaway June is one of the hottest acts in country music now. Hot enough for Carrie Underwood to lock them into her Cry Pretty 360 Tour, along with Maddie $ Tae starting May 1 in Greensboro, North Carolina. The tour does take a brief jog over to the U.K. where the talented British duo The Shires will open for Carrie, but the rest of the time, itâs all women, all the time, and all the way to Halloween. Jimmie Allen and Abby Anderson Take On Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooperâs âShallowâ With Brilliant Results

It isnât too unusual for country stars to take on rock, pop, or urban hits on their socials just to give fans a fun taste of their diverse talent. While thatâs often as far as those covers go, Jimmie Allen and Abby Anderson took it up a notch, not only releasing their cover of âShallowâ but also making a music video for the Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper fan favorite. Jimmie shared the big news on his socials late on February 21, but in the bio section of the YouTube video, he explains: âI fell in love with a movie, then I fell in love with a song from that movie. Now, I get to share my vision of how that song and movie creativity inspired me! â Inspired indeed! Jimmie and Abbyâs performances in the music video not only uncover a wealth of musical talent from both of the young rising stars, but it also hints that they could be quite capable in acting roles in television or movies. ââA Star is Bornâ was one of my favorites from last year, and the performance of this song in the film really moved me as an artist,â said Allen. âI had chills! Getting to cover âShallowâ with my good friend Abby was such a cool experience. Sheâs an incredible vocalist, and Iâm excited for fans to hear our take on the song.â âI think I speak for everyone when I say that I bawled like a baby during âA Star Is Born.â The song âShallowâ immediately stood out to me,â said Abby. âWhen Jimmie called and asked if I would sing on this song with him, I was honored. I mean Iâm no Lady Gaga, but working on this with Jimmie, who pours his whole heart into a song vocally, was an absolute joy.â If you didnât know, âShallowâ was featured in the Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper remake of the movie âA Star is Born.â Written by Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, and Andrew Wyatt, âShallowâ was the first single released from the movieâs soundtrack. Not only did it become a No. 1 single on multiple charts it has also received numerous awards, including âBest Original Songâ at the Golden Globes and âBest Duo/Group Performanceâ and âBest Song Written for Visual Mediaâ at the Grammy Awards. Will we see Jimmie and Abby perform âShallowâ live any time soon? Abby hits the road with Rob Thomas in May and Jimmie is on the road with Rascal Flatts this summer. Jennifer Nettles Makes Statement With New Song "I Can Do Hard Things" [Listen]

Singer, songwriter, actress, dancer, fashion plate, wife, daughter, friend, and most importantly, mom, Jennifer Nettles is growing more and more known for her beautifully articulate and thoughtful support of those who feel they may not have a voice, including women. And in her tender new song, âI Can Do Hard Things,â she sets some of her thoughts to music. ï»ż But it was more than just a lyric and a melody. Jennifer also shared an essay on the Medium platform explaining her motives behind releasing the stirring ballad. She writes, âThis song for me is a truth telling, a blood letting, a real-life heart opening to what it means to be a grown woman. It is my offering to honor the reality that, as I like to say, 'everything is everything.'" She also said, âAs women we are taught that we must do it all and act like we like doing it all. That, for example, our love for our children is somehow contingent upon our love of every moment of being a mother. As if Life were an 'either/or' instead of what it really is: 'both/and.' And as I began to acknowledge that Truth within me, that coexistente holding of everything all at once, I began to learn about pain and resilience and strength and tenderness.â Jennifer visited Kathie Lee and Hoda on February 22 and, after playing a bit of the song, the three women, all mothers, blotted tears. She also shared a slice of âSorry Cake,â made from a recipe in her cookbook, âSweet, Savory, Simple.â âI Can Do Hard Thingsâ is a new solo release from Jennifer and is available for download and stream now. ï»ż Read the full article
