People are complaining about Effie being older than Haymitch but I really could not care less about it. She's older than him and she's Capitol so she probably looks younger due to having a bunch of fancy Capitol beauty regimes. Haymitch is younger than her but he's had a rough life and doesn't look after himself so he looks older than he is. And they've known each other for 25 years and spent every one of those years sending one boy and one girl off to die. And they have depressed middle-aged hookups about it.

okay, i may be wrong about this but this is entirely my opinion. The Ballad of Lucy Gray makes more sense to me in regardless to Lenore Dove and Haymitch, at least the last part
“It's sooner than later that I'm six feet under.
It's sooner than later that you'll be alone
So who will you turn to tomorrow, I wonder?
For when the bell rings, lover, you're on your own
I am the one who you let see you weeping
I know the soul that you struggled to save
Too bad I'm the bet that you lost in the reaping
Now what will you do when I go to my grave?”
And you know why i found this interesting is because this two phrases, “So who will you turn to tomorrow, I wonder?” and “Now what will you do when I go to my grave?” asking about the person, the loved one she's living behind and his future, (also, Haymitch said that he would not like to waste her life, to cry and then love again, so I'm pretty sure Lenore would like the same for him), and to add more the phrases accepting the worst fate “It's sooner than later that I'm six feet under [...] Too bad I'm the bet that you lost in the reaping” this two are pretty clear that things like death can't be change but even as painful as it is is, one can go on loving in this life, different but still love. Now if you don't think is enough, I feel this two phrases make a perfect bridge between past and future “I am the one who you let see you weeping” and “I know the soul that you struggled to save” the first one making reference to Lenore Dove being probably the only one who saw Haymitch cry his family and friends, but the next one making reference to Effie who knew and saw his grieving, who knew he did everything to save their friends (Loulla, Lou Lou, Ampert, Maysilee, Wellie) and failed, Effie who knew he could not save the more than 40 children that were send to him for 20+ years.
I'm going insane with the details and conections, I don't need to sleep I need answers

I think I figured out why I am writing the whole thing before I start sharing any of it. My fic is going to be dramatic. I have plenty of key points at which Haymitch and Effie are going to react to each other in certain ways. But I want to make sure it’s believable and not just drama for the sake of drama.
Like these two lovely, traumatized mother fuckers are gonna have a happy ending. But they gotta work for it. 🤷🏻♀️
I’m on chapter 9 and I feel like I literally just hit the tip of the iceberg.

I know many believe SUNRISE ON THE REAPING ruined HAYFFIE, but I have to disagree. It actually made me ship them even harder. I love their new backstory and that she's been with him through it all. Even the epilogue can't destroy it for me. Who's to say that two days after HAYMITCH made his final statement, EFFIE didn’t show up at his door, suitcase in hand, ready to move in? Maybe she helps him raise his geese and brings back some color into his life.
It's true that geese mate for life if you compare them to other species. They don’t usually have multiple partners at the same time and can live anywhere from 10 to 25 years, so it's common for a pair to stay together for a decade [x]. But if one goose dies, the surviving goose will eventually find a new mate and I think that's a good thing? None of us wants to be forgotten, but we want our loved ones to be happy even after we're gone, right? HAYMITCH himself wishes for LENORE DOVE to find love again if he doesn't survive the arena.
So, why shouldn't she want the same for him?

hey so why has no one talked about the fact that, in haymitch's first scene in the hunger games (book), he tries to hug effie when he arrives drunk off his ass? like... what am i supposed to do but cry after reading sunrise on the reaping and now coming back and seeing this??

I imagine at least one time throughout the 25 years Effie has personally had to clean Haymitch up.
He is drunk, has vomited all over himself and she has to help him in the shower. As she is about to undress him she thinks of her collouges and friends that has paid for the "company" of other victors.
"I won't hurt you". She promises
"I know that".

guys
I’ve gotten to the part where Effie appeared and she made her appearance the way only Effie Trinket could. and hayffie’s first interactions are polite, civil even friendly omg I might die.
does this mean Effie has watched Haymitch spiraled throughout the years up till the rebellion? My heart might give out.
I feel like it’s 2014 again.
