I Would Have, but I Didn't Have Any Money
This morning Gov. Quinn suspended lawmakers pay until they come up with pension reform (Most make around 60k, if that, and have to quit their jobs to fulfill all GA responsibilities. They have families and bills to pay and most of the time they can't do their jobs because of people higher up. Madigan *caugh*). Once again, we are going to throw a crap bill on the floor. Just a tiny note...Quinn was a no show at the pension reform meeting last week. AND failed to bring anything to the table during the General Assembly's actual sessions (which started in January).
The public's easy solution is to blame the lawmakers. So he is pleasing them by suspending their pay (which he can't really do and it will be turned over easily) and hoping he will be seen like a badass normal dude for his upcoming re-election. Not going to happen, dude.
My hope is that our generation WON'T FALL FOR THIS. He is the one putting it off, he is the one leaning on Madigan (our speaker of the house - which is a WHOLE nother drama/crime filled post down the road) to run the show. Worthless. Lazy. and most of all, trying everything to milk a dry cow. You have done nothing since you took office and if you win again I fully believe our state is going to fall to its death in a massive sinkhole.
Fix the pension, damnit!
FUN IL PENSION FACT: Illinois is estimated to reach $102.7 BILLION in shortfall by next summer on pension alone. Good luck to our generation! Hopefully Social Security will cover our losses...Oh wait.

PUT THAT VETO DOWN!
Gov. Quinn used his power of veto toward the concealed carry bill that passed last month (for some nighttime reading, HB 183). With most legislatures upset they have to give up their summer time (welcome to the public sphere), they came together in Springfield to discuss the bill and the trailer bill (HB 1435).
Quick overlook of the trailer bill:
-signage on where guns cannot be carried (there's a lot)
-reporting mental illnesses to IL state police
President Cullerton sponsored this bill and pushed for no signage on these places. This is the biggest topic on the Senate floor for concern. It passed today. Screw it, we'll figure out the details later. Maybe when we figure out that whole budget and pension thing.
We will be able to carry out our 2nd Right in Illinois after today, how it's all put together is still up in the air.
Flashback recap: We were warned by the 7th circuit court that our current law of prohibiting people to carry guns is unconstitutional and we have to pass something by June 9th (extended our deadline to July 9th..it's July 9th. Thanks, Quinn.) Or there will be no restrictions. So it was a holy crap moment on the floor and they had to shimmy something out of their asses or override the veto. Thanks for trying to look like you do things, Quinn, but sit your VETO down!

Happy Independence Day!
As a farmer's granddaughter, grain elevator owner's daughter, and a small town girl, I'm excited and proud to see the city embracing the old red, white, and blue. Even though many are only doing it because it's 'Merica, I'm thrilled to have more apparel to choose from other than Old Navy t-shirts.
Tomorrow, don't paint your nails and throw on your stars and stripes just because. Remember what it is about. Of course we have our flaws and there are MANY things I don't agree with, but we are free because of people over the past 237 years who fought and died. I will forever remember I'm grateful, I'm blessed, but most of all...I live in the best f**king country ever. Amen.
