(small rant about pride merch and aroace alastor)
you know I really don't get how up to this point there's still the need to keep hush-hush on alastor's aromanticism. the argument that confirming it would spoil shippers' fun doesn't even hold up. it never did, but NOW, with velvette's confirmed lesbian identity which I've seen in real time "spoil" some po|yvees shippers' "fun", even moreso. so like... we're fine "spoiling" THOSE shippers "fun" because they're not as popular but god forbid the possibility of spoiling alastor shippers' fun. (nevermind the fact that ships don't have to be canon for you to enjoy them and how there's multiple ways to interpret a ship to still be compliant and respectful to canon identities) like I really don't get it, does this not fall under the same logic? like okay, you could argue for lesbian vaggie and gay angel dust that those two do not have any significant m/f pairings but like vivzie and crew have GOT to know po|yvees has a sizeable following but that didn't stop them from confirming lesbian velvette so why is confirming alastor as aro still a problem???
#osrs.txt#mini rant#this is not a complaint about fandom shipping this is a complaint about vivzie and the crew's logic when it comes to confirming identities#and it sucks because alastor is clearly written as aroace#and refusing to explicitly confirm him as aro while only confirming him as ace only contributes to the conflation of ace and aro#also btw if they wanted to confirm him as NOT aro he would still have an unfilled romantic orientation#and he would still use another flag OTHER than ace unless he was literally heteroromantic ace which I don't think anyone actually believes#don't even get me started on the idea that representation spoils people's fun#I already have some issues with some immediate reactions to lesbian velvette being NOOOOO PO|YVEES#and like don't get me wrong I never minded po|yvees in the past (and tbh still find the idea of them as a qpr polycule believable)#but reacting negatively to representation because of attachment to ships just doesn't sit right with me#I was thinking of putting this under the aroace alastor tag but I really think that tag has enough discourse so I'm sparing it#feel free to filter tags or ask to tag I just needed to get this out#I don't like complaining too much/being negative on here because blogs full of discourse are no fun
