what should realistically happen in ch271 according to my calculations. like you're telling me judo and keishuk were like this when meinyan barely touched suwon's hand and that keishuk won't magically manifest to get in between suzeno? no way. i know my emotional comfort advisor. his sillism will save us. keishuk chop!!!!!!

Su-won's Character Development Chart Part I
I am doing this as a personal exercise to prove that Su-won has a lacking character development problem.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another thing to note, Su-won accurately pin-points the looming poverty crisis, lack of trade & realizes Chishin can't simply rely on its dwindling mineral resources, has obviously done some research on the trends in Kai to tell Yun-ho to serve her tea to the visiting Kai merchants. - Hmm...that's an awful lot of insight for a guy who has a poor point of view.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something interesting about this arc which might be less obvious is the moment when Hak sees Su-won for the first time since the coup.
When Yona sees Su-won for the first time, she is frozen, drowning in her thoughts and isn't able to make a decision before Su-won stops her. In a similar manner, when Hak sees Su-won, Su-won isn't able to make a decision until Jae-ha stops Hak.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have always felt the Sei arc is the most emotionally complicated arc written by Kusa in AnY. We see many characters forced to face the feelings they have locked away. Hak, Yona, Su-won, Ju-doh, Ki-ja, even Mun-deok.
Also since the story is mostly about Yona I don't think many people actually realize how much Su-won has grown into his role as king. How much will, effort & reason it takes to stop oneself from getting drunk on the victories, the power.
It cannot be denied. Su-won had a violent, oppressive start. It was necessary at that time, but what many don't realize is how easy it is to continue on that lane especially when it comes to power, but Su-won grabbed every opportunity possible to change lanes.
Also we end up contemplating what determines right? Ki-ja says Hiryuu is the rightful owner of the country. Does that mean if roles were to flip and Yona was not a reincarnation of Hiryuu no matter what she did for the people and the country do not matter? or Is he referring to her right as the daughter of the former king?
Second thing about this arc is when Hak & Su-won work together. We are shown Yona's thoughts asking herself how they turned out like this. I believe it is possible that it was not only Yona asking herself that. We all know how well our author loves to play with parallels.
Tumblr media
The third interesting thing about this arc is we are given a small insight into Mun-deok's complicated feelings towards Su-won too.
Tumblr media
I think time has given him an opportunity to make peace with the Su-won's ascension to King. Despite his mixed feelings he was even expecting Su-won to get married and have an heir
So to summarize part one -
Kills IL - chases Yona Hak out of the castle - suppresses wind tribe - Becomes King - Hides Yona - Improves earth tribe economy- gains the respect of Geuntae - stops fire tribe rebellion - teaches kyo-ga how to rule and trusts him as the next head (cause its very easy to trust the son of the man who started a rebellion to not stab you in the back.) - investigates nadai - motivates Lili to stand up for her tribe - thwarts a south kai fleet - gains Joon-gi's support - reclaims lost territory (there was a slight mishap with Kin province) - thwarts a future Sei invasion - starts facing his feelings towards Hak and Yona.
Nope, no growth at all.

I wonder what anon meant by "poor view"? In fact one of his views/principles of not seeking the power of the gods but the strength of the ppl has literally now become the endgame of the series!! Even Yona, the mc, who sought & relied on the dragon gods power has now come into realization that it's no good, no??
Btw, the one anon is claiming to be having "poor view" is currently the one actively fighting the gods with that "poor view" of his & saving Hakyona's asses so.....
Much of Yona's work is run as an Adventure and Hero's Journey. Excluding the romance, Hak would still be the second main character. Saying he hasn't evolved at all is a flat-earther type of argument. In the work, the character who most needed to evolve was Yona, which is why her character arc is very ascending. Hak had a normal development, but chapter 91 was a turning point for his development. He has multiple dynamics with other characters, even with people he consider enemies. What is Suwon's evolution? Only in the arc of the war with South Kai does he have some development, but his point of view is poor. He is the character who is almost the same as in the beginning, without any kind of important growth.
Umm...okay.

Anyways, this is actually an interesting aspect...Soo-Won & his sword...
Tumblr media
The way he holds his sword really tells a lot imo. In one way, it could mean his deep attachment towards his father. That's the only thing he inherited from his father, ofc that's very special & precious to him. But we also know that Soo-Won’s now moved past the boundaries that has been caged him up for ages. Ofc he still loves & admires his dad but he has also realized that he can't throw away his feelings. Which might be a possible reason why he in the latest cover also appears to be sad & soft (opposite to the other I've attached where he appears a bit cold). Maybe this is sign of him finally mourning for his grief & moving forward?
The white clouds w a dawning sky(I'm assuming it as such) in his side might also imply a new beginning for him.
I agree w u that he also seems a bit detached in this art compared to the other two. Maybe bcz compared to them, Soo-Won’s side has other aspects that will be addressed soon.
I also find Soo-Won & his association w the sword very interesting. The story started w him killing Il w a sword, now at the very end of the story, he's literally beating the dragon gods' asses w a sword! No wonder why Kusa loves him drawing w a sword in the official arts...this actually helds deep significance to his character!!
Suwon has been repeatedly shown to hold his sword close to his chest (if you see the recent trio cover too). Any thoughts on what it may imply?
I guess you mean
Tumblr media
Interesting in that pic is that all three hold weapons. Yona of course is the centre piece and appears in a form of armour. She is holding Hiryuu´s sword. Hak is to her right, Soo Won to her left side. Hak definitely stays closer to Yona than Soo Won, who is turning his body partly away. Soo Won is also the only person, who holds his sword with both hands.
And it is definitely the sword of his father, he has in his hands. In the background there is the wide sky with clouds, that are more present at Soo Won´s side. Hak´s weapon is also near Soo Won´s head.
More or less it does seem as if Soo Won is still separated from the other two, despite them being now allies. The separating factor seems to be the earlier twist.
So it does appear that there might be a conversation about their past.
Additionally, Soo Won is in his kingly robes...so his role as a king might be not a thing of the past.
The interesting point is also, that Soo Won and Yona are mirrors to each other in the latest chapter. They even hold the same sword.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They are "body & soul" of Hiryuu - Soo Won is his descendant, Yona own his soul.
And they both tear apart the dragons, who cannot accept the death of Hiryuu

Oh Meinyan....if only she knew her dear gods have never gaf abt her or her clan.....this panel was so ironic....for her begging for the gods mercy....
While Soo-Won....he's trying out every cards on his sleeves to buy more time for his friends to get out of the trap...even if it means sacrificing his life. "Come tear me apart" "I'll even draw bows to the heavens"---these statements show how desperate he's to save them. But at the same time, he's staying calm & resilient...not wavering for once!!
Can't tell how much his bravery & never give up spirit moves me!! Soo-Won is literally an inspiration!!
Meinyan begging god for a comfortable end to her existence, either through the illness which plagues her due to their blood in her veins or by the world dying from their rampage - only for the very next panel to show Soowon, also sick from this illness, actively fighting the gods

Noooooo what are you doinggggg this is a dragon. Although it is weak and dying so maybe it's not that stupid. Anyway Haku full of wounds is still the strongest in Kouka he can fight the dragon with his arms and win. I want to 🙄roll my eyes🙄 BUT it is a genius strategy. He doesn't have much of a character, he's just there to look good and protect Yona - so people can project onto him. You can make him whoever you want. He looks good so you can have fun. PERFECT love interest. I mean in all honesty it's a very good strategy. It works wonders, he is the most popular character from Akayona right
