A picture does not speak a thousand words. You as the audience, the viewer, speak those words from the story you see before you. Picture composition does not distract you or drag your eyes to certain places. You choose to look, to find attraction, revulsion and disturbance. The societies and groups you grow up with are responsible for putting those reactions in you. You can choose to find different ways of seeing, chiefly by understanding other groups. That is the lesson of archaeology and anthropology. Most posts are from my imagination and view of this planet we live on. Posts from others are things I admire for their fluent explanation of life. Not all things will be beautiful, some will be odd. Scotland, ecology, the past, mythologies, these are the themes of most of my images, because they are often the best way to make comments about the present andthe globe. Oh, and on occasion I may indulge in a little writing. Feel free to comment. All images of my own are copyright to myself and no others.I use a lot of Polaroid film and Impossible film. Many I use as Emulson Lifts, many are retrieved paper negatives. I use any camera or film or sensor that will make the image I plan for. Many of my images are nudes and use themes from the past, because I see the world that way: in the sea, mountains, rivers, and straths and glens, in music's flow, in stories' origins. The naked human body is a statement that we are not divorced from the natural physical world. The body in clothes has an illusory barrier between the ecosystems we depend on, and that which we construct and call human societies. It is a symbol of freedom, an invitation to sense a different reality, a gesture of discontent with the modern world. It is not intended to be exploitative or titillating. My past is in archaeology and anthropology, hence my reliance on symbols of the past, and my willingness to explore different ways of thinking. My apologies if this seems complicated or longwinded. However, life as...

For all who might see this, Whooper Swans are always a smile causing sight, but they always cry out to me, the new year has arrived. The perfect symbols for the promise of the Winter Solstice

Bill Murray was a pre-med student until he got busted for pot on his 20th birthday, and it changed his life forever.
While waiting to board a plane in Chicago on September 21, 1970, he jokingly told another passenger he had bombs in his bag. A ticket agent overheard him, US Marshals searched his luggage and found $20k worth (10 lbs) of weed, he was put on 5 years probation, and, in a flash, his college career was over… so he became an actor instead.
