Hey all!

I'm not using this site much but I'm leaving an update here for anyone who finds it.

I'm still writing fics! (As of April 2024)

Fairies and Dragons: the next chapter (levy-centric) is 75% done. I'm not happy with elements of it and it's one I want to get right. The following chapter (the start of the tournament arc) is also in production and will be released shortly after the levy chapter. I'm feeling pretty good about this and finally happy with my writing again. I think I might be coming out of writer's block as I'm enjoying writing and it doesn't feel forced.

Other fics: I have stated before I wanted to start writing other fics for Fairy Tail and that still stands true. I've written the outline for a complete medium-length story (about thirteen chapters) and another fic I've worked on whenever I've felt the urge to, has four completed but unedited chapters already.

I've really enjoyed reading a few fics lately and it's helped me realise it's time to throw myself back into writing again. It also helps that the Fairy Tail sequel is coming out this summer so I'm hopeful more talented writers will return to the fandom too.

I don't have a set date when I'm going to update again but I would like it to be this month.

Hey all, just a tiny update on the next F&D chapter - it's about 50% done and a bit lengthy. I'm currently wrapped up in playing Baldur's Gate 3 at the moment so it will be a bit longer before I finish it 😅

2023 Update

Hi all! I'm still around but I don't check tumblr very often when I'm not writing/reading much. I thought I'd post an update on where things are at regarding my fic(s).

Life has been tough on my body. I thought when my toddler started kindergarten (that's as early as 1 year old in Scandinavia), I'd have more time for myself. What actually happened was I had an onslaught of post-pandemic illnesses brought home to me and I'm not exaggerating when I have been more or less, non-stop sick since September last year. I've had covid, bronchitis, some mild childhood viruses all at the same time, the flu twice, and various stomach bugs. Thankfully, that seems to be coming to an end now that Spring is almost here. I want to get back into writing again but I feel pretty rusty and I am lacking motivation. So, let's start with the biggie. Fairies and Dragons. I've struggled writing for this as I haven't enjoyed D&D for a while. I joined a campaign that was not fun to sit through and really put me off wanting to write anything to do with D&D. I'm in a different campaign now and I'm having fun with it again finally. I'm beginning to feel some inspiration to write some fun encounters for the story again as well as the tournament. So far as regarding writing chapter 30 goes, I wrote all the events that happen outside of D&D some time ago but got stuck on the D&D portion itself. I'm hoping to write that part as my inspiration returns which leads me to me the next part...

I'm struggling to like anything I write. I tried writing my next fic (I hadn't forgotten about that) but just can't get into a good groove. Before, it was a case of I would write for a bit, re-read it, and then alter it. Sometimes I would get excited by the words I'd written or even giddy at the thought of what my readers would think. Now, I've written 1000 words, re-read it and hate it. The words don't convey what I'm trying to express at all. I've realised it's been a while since I've sat down and read well, anything aside from a couple of fics I'm following that still update. Reading really does help me get into the flow of writing so I guess what I'm asking for is any fic recommendations that are well-written to get the juices flowing. I'm not a big fan of really OOC stories (e.g Natsu chasing skirts or Lucy being too bold about her feelings)

Thanks for the message! I'm so glad to hear that you enjoy my writing so much! Fairies and Dragons is currently on hiatus as I tackle social/economic turmoil in my life right now but I'll get back to writing it when things are better.

Updating to say I'm halfway done with editing. Might get the chapter out today or tomorrow.

Small update/delay - the last part of chapter 29 for F&D was scrapped because I felt like I had already written something similar in previous chapters and it added nothing to the story so I'm re-writing that part of it entirely. I'll get it finished soon - promise!

Chapter 29 of Fairies and Dragons is almost finished. I've written it all and now it just needs to be edited. I suck at that part and it can sometimes take me longer than writing the chapter itself but hopefully I'll be able to post it later this week.

Fic Update

Hey all, just posting a little update here. I have made a little progress on Chapter 29 of Fairies and Dragons but honestly, I’ve been pretty exhausted lately and haven’t had the energy by the time evening rolls around to work on it. Nine month old babies are interesting stage to be at - as in they want to learn to stand/walk and it’s so exciting for them that they start refusing naps or waking early from them in order to get back to it as quick as possible and you have to play bodyguard all day to catch them if they fall while they try to cling to bookcases/sofa/chair etc.Thankfully, things are getting back to normal recently and I’m getting proper breaks during the little one’s naptime to regain some energy.

I’m enjoying writing the next chapter, even if it’s just little bits at a time... and I’ve more or less finished the storyline for my second Fairy Tail fic which I intend to write alongside F&D once my baby starts kindergarten at the end of summer. It’s not related to F&D and I mostly want to challenge myself with writing something darker.

I would say my main struggle to get the chapter out faster aside from the lack of energy to write is that I’m struggling to enjoy D&D again but I’m giving it time. I know I have a D&D focused chapter to write soon and it makes me nervous when I’m not really feeling it in the actual campaign I’m playing in. It’s also partially the reason why I want to write another fic - for when the D&D inspiration isn’t there.

Anyway, thanks for reading my update/ramble.

TDLR: F&D chap 29 is being written but slowly because I’ve been tired all the time. Also I’m going to write another story alongside F&D come autumn.

Chapter 28 / Fairies and Dragons

Hey all, I’ve updated my fic with a new chapter. It’s shorter and the writing is probably a bit rusty but it’s an update at least. It’s been really nice to sit down in the evenings with a coffee and write again. I don’t nearly have as much time as used to to do it thanks to my new life of being a parent. I’m still dealing with my grief but things are getting better and I think I’ve processed it in a healthy way. Any who, update links:

Further Update

In a follow up from my previous posts, I just wanted to post that, unfortunately, my dad passed away. Covid got him before the cancer did. I’m heartbroken that I wasn’t able to return to the UK to see him in time. I’m travelling back this weekend for his funeral. I can’t really describe how it feels or what’s going on emotionally for me – it’s an overwhelming mess to put it bluntly. I still won’t be writing for a little while. I’m missing it so much and all the happiness it brought me to sit down at my keyboard and just let the inspiration flow. My energy just isn’t there to do it right now.

The good: I’ve managed to sit down and actually write stuff today. Almost done planning my next fic and I also managed 500 words for F&D. I was dreading hitting a writing block but with a cup of coffee and reading back on the reviews and comments gave me the motivation I needed to get started.

The bad: My dad ran away from hospital, caught covid, gave it to my grandma, got more sick, got taken back to hospital by ambulance again. Thankfully they are both vaccinated and it’s the weaker variant. No news since then which I’m grateful for as it means neither of them are getting worse.

Apologies for the Lack of Updates

Now that I’m actually awake and not spewing out nonsensical sentences after midnight, I feel I owe an explanation as for the lack of updates or any notifications regarding Fairies and Dragons so I’m just going to lay it all out here. Maybe it will be cathartic, who knows.

My family is currently going through a tough time. My dad has always been alcoholic that’s never accepted that to the point where it’s cost him his marriage and close family ties. He is absolutely a rotten drunk. It became so bad that he developed Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome (also known as ‘wet brain’) and he still wouldn’t quit drinking. His brain is now completely... well, he’s not really himself…  he recalls memories from twenty years ago, still thinking my trans-brother is a child and spams photos of him pre-transitioned all over Facebook as one example. Some of the worst personality traits of him are amplified which is even worse after he’s managed to find a bottle of red wine to guzzle down. This all started a couple of years ago and now he has pancreatic cancer which he is in denial of. As a result, his family members don’t really know anything from his doctors other than it’s terminal. Despite my fractured relationship with my dad, I still have some good childhood memories of him and it’s hard accepting that he’s both gone mentally and now his life is ending. Not only that, but he was so desperate to keep up the denial that he wouldn’t go for the prospect of meeting my daughter – his only grandchild when I offered to fly out with her to see him. It’s truly heartbreaking. On top of this news, my partner recently just lost his mormor (grandmother) and so he’s pretty miserable too. It sucks that both these things are happening at the same time on top of raising a baby who’s decided sleep is for the weak. Finally, I’ve only recently started playing D&D again but it’s biweekly and so far it isn’t fun? It’s a different DM but nearly all the same players but uh, struggling to enjoy it for a number of reasons not related to the family tragedies happening right now. My old DM is going to start a new campaign but it won’t be for months yet. I’m hoping that will be more inspiring to want to write fictional D&D sessions in my fic again. So that covers why there’s been a lack of updates or communication. Other smaller things have happened too but they pale in comparison. I can’t say when I will want to write again, only that the story is not abandoned. I don’t want to force something out when I’m not feeling it or I feel the chapters will suffer, people will notice it’s not really got any soul in it. I actually have another story penned out which I might work on when I’m struggling to get back into D&D. I really want to try out a new idea/genre but who knows when I’ll give that a go. Thanks for following me and not forgetting about me or my fic everyone. It really does mean a lot to me.
