M/EINE EUROPÄISCHE ERZÄHLUNG

Eine Erzählung, die immer weiter läuft. Und läuft, und läuft. Und fährt, und stehen bleibt. Eine Erzählung, die versucht zu verstehen; eine Erzählung, die sich umschaut, die viel fragt, die von einer zur nächsten Person läuft, von einem Ort zum Nächsten. Eine Erzählung, die versucht sich langsam zu bewegen, aber immer in Bewegung bleibt, physisch und in Gedanken.

Ich, Julia Blawert, reise für acht Monate an neun Stationen in und um Europa herum. Entlang verschiedener Grenzen und an Orte, die von Grenzen betroffen sind – aktuell oder aus vergangenen Zeiten. Von jedem Ort nehme ich eine Fragestellung mit zum Nächsten und schaue, was diese Frage dort mit mir und diesem Ort macht.

Ich führe Gespräche mit Personen, die mir begegnen. Ich frage nach der Geschichte der Umgebung, der Gegenwart, des gesellschaftlichen Zusammenlebens, der kulturellen Praxis, nach der eigenen Verbindung zur Grenze.

Ich besuche Künstler:innen und Kunst-Orte. Ich frage sie, was sie antreibt, ob sie sich als Europäer:innen fühlen und ob das überhaupt eine Bedeutung hat. Mich interessiert die Arbeitsweise der Kunstschaffenden und derer, die die Orte dazu schaffen. Mich interessieren die Auseinandersetzungen und die Kunst, die daraus entsteht: Ausstellungen, Aufführungen, Zusammenkünfte, Vorträge und Diskussionen...

Nach und nach entsteht hier eine Erzählung, die von unterschiedlichen Orten handelt -auf der Suche nach einem Europa innerhalb und außerhalb von Europa. Und so läuft M/eine Europäische Erzählung immer weiter und weiter und es entstehen hier regelmäßig neue Kapitel mit künstlerischen Auseinandersetzungen.

POSTKARTEN

I. Von jedem Ort schicke ich eine Postkarte - eine Audio-Postkarte zum anhören (unter Audio-Postkarten)

II. Auch Postkarten aus Papier entstehen, die unterschiedliche Kunstwerke zeigen, die mir begegnet sind

PERFORMANCES

III. Immer wieder baue ich meinen europäischen Wanderschrank im öffentlichen Raum auf – ein Wohnzimmerschrank, der versucht die Grenze zwischen einem privaten & öffentlichen Sein zu verbinden. Ich lade alle Personen ein, mich darin zu besuchen um mit mir die unterwegs entstandenen Fragen zu besprechen, Antworten zu finden, Ansätze zu diskutieren und neue Fragen zu stellen. Und um mit mir zusammen M/eine europäische Erzählung weiter zu spinnen, denn aus jedem europäischen Wanderschrank entsteht eine neue Audio-Postkarte, wie diese z.B. aus Colditz (unter "Colditz").

IV. Es entstehen Performances, in denen ich von dem bisher Erzähltem erzähle. Manchmal in intimer Runde, manchmal in größeren Zusammenkünften, werde ich zu einem Sprachrohr, welches die gesammelten Geschichten performativ wiedergibt.

M/eine europäische Erzählung ist keine Dokumentation, kein Archiv, sondern es sind Zusammenschnitte meiner Begegnungen mit Personen, die ich treffe. Es sind Zusammenschnitte meiner Erfahrungen von unterwegs und Zusammenschnitte der Fülle an Fragen, die irgendwie immer mehr werden...

A story that keeps going. That moves on. That walks, and walks, and walks. And sits in trains & busses, and stops. A story that tries to understand; a story that looks around, that asks a lot of questions, that moves from one person to the next, from one place to another. A story that tries to move slowly, but always keeps moving, physically and mentally.

Hey, my name is Julia Blawert. I am traveling for eight months to nine locations in and around Europe. Along various borders and to places that are affected by borders - currently or from past times. From each place I take a question to the next and see what this question does to me and this place there.

I have conversations with people I meet. I ask about the history of the area, the present, social coexistence, cultural practice, about their own connection to the border.

I visit artists and art venues. I ask them what drives them, whether they feel like Europeans and whether that has any meaning at all. I am interested in the way different artists work and I am interested in those who create these places. I am interested in the debates and the art that arises from them: exhibitions, performances, meetings, lectures and discussions...

Little by little, a narrative is emerging here that is about different places - in search of a Europe inside and outside of Europe. And so M/eine europäische Erzählung keeps going and new chapters are regularly created here.

POSTCARDS

I send a postcard from every place; an "audio-postcard" to listen to (chapter Audio-Postkarten).

I also create paper postcards that show different works of art that I have come across.

PERFORMANCES

Every now and than, I set up my Closet-of-wandering-Europe in public space - a living room cabinet that tries to connect the border between a private and public existence. I invite everyone to visit me inside to discuss the questions that have arisen along the way, find answers, discuss approaches and ask new questions. And to continue to spin M/eine europäische Erzählung. From every Closet-of-wandering-Europe a new Audio-Postkarte emerges, like this one from Colditz (chapter “Colditz”)

In certain places I do Performances in which I tell of what has been told to me so far. Sometimes in an intimate setting, sometimes in larger gatherings, I become a mouthpiece that performatively recites and tells about the collected stories.

M/eine europäische Erzählung is not a documentation, not an archive, but rather compilations of my encounters with people I meet. They are compilations of my experiences on the road and compilations of the abundance of questions that somehow keep increasing...
