I like to keep in mind that even the mature adults in this comic are, in fact, five years old and prone to act on just that much experience.

@cleopatra7604 in the original they were a bit more tightly-packed and active. I could imagine getting a bit agoraphobic in a milling crowd like that.
(agoraphobia = "fear of crowds"... as opposed to angoraphobia = "fear of angora cats", which would be sensible for the local birds)

Sorry, I need a sick day! Allergies are kicking my butt and I need sleep. Also I need to get a queue going so this doesn't happen.

Thank goodness for youtube slowmo pounce videos! The way I always imagined cats looking at the height of their graceful midair flips is very different from reality.
Much as I loathe some things computers have done to art, I could never have drawn this comic if I couldn't watch endless cat videos for reference. Being able to see on demand how movements really look has been an irreplaceable help with drawing them. Sure, I have access to several models, but they're not cooperative. Thank you to youtube for making any of this possible.

We come in all varieties. I still have to deal with crushes, but with the knowledge that very few would reciprocate my feelings but want an ace partner. Plus I worry that if anything ever happened to my partner, I'd end up alone.
Not inspired by anyone in particular! Just been hearing a lot about aroace people lately as if it came in a package deal, and it's complex. Hi I'm visible today.

When I was young, people who were called out for being rude would say, "It's a free country!" or "I have freedom of speech!"
Ok so you can't be prosecuted in court. So what? If YTA, all kinds of other consequences are still on, including being called out, social censure, and people losing respect for you.
You don't obtain "permission" to be rude from government protected speech. You are just assured that the cops won't be called on you. That doesn't like, magically grant some kind of protective blanket that shields you from other consequences. The person calling out the rude kid wasn't threatening them with legal action, they were just saying, UGH!
can we please bring back “in poor taste” as a concept
Because at some point it got folded in under “problematic,” and now every damn thing that has Unfortunate Implications or deals with sensitive topics indelicately enough to raise hackles or gores somebody’s sacred cow is treated as a grave injustice or a threat to society. Online activism culture has lost the vocabulary to express “this deals with touchy stuff in a way many people might find inappropriate, and you should probably avoid it if insensitivity on this subject gets you angry/upset, but it’s not promoting hateful ideas or demeaning people or affecting anything but my opinion of the creator’s sense of tact.”

my window is open and our house is close up against the neighbours', and i can hear the whole family having an intense argument about trigonometry. they're trying to figure out this problem as a group and clearly not all in agreement about how it works. it's just the funniest thing to hear the neighbours shouting about. like... what a wholesome argument

obsessed with how fixable society is, on a structural level.
obsessed with how all you need to do is throw money at public education and eliminate most standardized testing and you will start getting smarter, more engaged, kinder adults. obsessed with how giving people safe housing, reliable access to good food, and decent wages dramatically reduces drug overdoses and gun violence. obsessed with how much people actually want to get together and fix infrastructure, invent new ways of helping each other, and create global ways of living sustainably once you give them livable pay to do so. obsessed with how tracking diseases, developing medicines, and improving public health becomes so much easier when you just make healthcare free at point of use.
obsessed with how easy it all becomes, if we can just figure out how to wrench the wealth out of the hands of the hoarders.

There are multiple different cats playing Spot on ST:TNG. An Abyssinian looking kitty, a light red mackerel tabby. Was the same kitty not available for acting? Did they really think we wouldn't notice? I suppose the key point is that none of the cats playing Spot are, in fact, spotted.

College teen complaining that something is "too woke": "You can't say anything anymore. Everything's about not hurting someone's feelings."
Kiddo, there's no "anymore" about its being frowned upon to hurt others' feelings. In the past we called it "politeness". Now you feel like you can complain about it under the banner of "wokeness" because you have this new word that's so popular.
Woke woke woke. Really it's a slang word meaning "pay attention to them taking away your rights," so every complaint about "wokeness" is itself woke.
But that's not what you mean to say when you compain that something is woke. What you really mean is "too inclusive of people I don't want to associate with." Since the problems with that are too obvious, people are hiding behind this word "woke" to complain about having to not be rude.
Instead of "too woke," next time try "wow, I never realized that so many people out there aren't just like me. Being polite is more complicated than I thought; good thing I'm being reminded."

So when I was getting dressed today, I very quickly put on a lab coat and some cat ears, not even trying to have something coherent, just wanting to have some kind of costume, and then I used some eyeliner to draw some whiskers on my face, so, yeah, that's my costume, cat in a lab coat, does it make sense? no. who cares. Still wearing the same skirt and striped knee-high socks from yesterday, but that's just my work clothes.
But then when I got to my office in the physics department, one of my colleagues was immediately like, "Oh! Schrödinger's catgirl!"
