“  don’t ask me  ,  i’m not a biologist  ,  least of all a neurologist  ,  ”  liv replies  .  she’d say that she expects someone of his intellect to be more rational than that  ,  but it would be a lie  —  she’s yet to meet a single intellectually-minded person who isn’t incredibly dumb when it comes to at least one aspect of daily life  .  “  but i’ve definitely been told off for bad sleeping habits before  .  one of my old co-workers was quite adamant that anything less than six hours of sleep renders you useless for the rest of the day  ,  and maybe i’m just getting old  ,  but i’m inclined to agree  .  ”

          SHE  NODS  ALONG  .  “  that’s  pretty  impressive  .  have  you  been  working  on  anything  recent  ?  ”  she’s  not  a  big  physics  person  but  she’ll  remain  impressed  !  “  oh  me  ?  ”  she  stops  in  front  of  an  elevator  and  presses  the  up  button  .  “  i’m  studying  biomedical  engineering  with  a  specialization  in  cellular  and  tissue  .  not  entirely  sure  what  i’m  going  to  do  yet  but  i’ve  still  got  a  year  in  my  masters  program  .  ”

“  biomedical engineering  ?  ooh  ,  very fancy  .  i’m always so impressed with biologists  ,  i just can’t seem to get it myself  .  ”  she’s gotten distracted  ,  no longer trying to figure out the feeling of deja vu and instead just rolling with the conversation  .  science is so much more interesting than vague feelings  .  “  i’ve been looking at new kinds of  —  quantum particles  ,  for want of a better word  .  photons  ,  things like that  .  things that behave like particles occasionally  ,  despite technically not being particles  .  ”

“  nice  .  but i sort of meant from a scientific perspective  ?  ‘cause rainbows and glitter and undying love are all great  ,  but they’re not really  —  material objects  ,  you know  ?  ”

what are the odds of coming across a perfect lab assistant right off the bat  ?  “  what kind of physics  ,  specifically  ?  ”  she has to ask  ,  though  ,  because  —  well  .  not all physics is created equal  .  “  do you have any experience with particle physics or quantum physics  ?  or  ,  say  ,  the multiverse  ?  ”  obviously these days everyone knows at least a little about the multiverse  ,  but she means more in a physics sense  .  or if he knew about it before falling into this universe  .

“Uh…” He blinks, racking his brain for any knowledge of a boson. Proton, neutron, electron, sure. What little of his old high school he did attend didn’t exactly stick well then, forget eleven years later. He nods instead. “Yeah, alright. I…kinda remember hearin’ about that. Been a long time since I’ve been in a science class, though. ‘S a reason I mostly stick to the hands on approach.”

“  fair  ,  fair  .  honestly  ,  most people don’t totally get it even after working in the field for years  .  ”  she shrugs  .  “  it’s pretty niche  ,  but i think it’s cool  .  never had the chance to think about practical applications of bosons before  .  ”  new world  ,  new research  ,  and sure  —  it’s a little weird to accost some random on the street and ramble to them about her research  ,  but olivia octavius is nothing if not weird  .

  completely  understandable.  he  remembers  how  he  felt  when  he  showed  up  here    —    knowing  very  little  people,  comparing  his  new  york  to  this  new  york,  adjusting  to  absolutely  everything  and  knowing  he  was  simply  here  to  look  after  the  city  with  a  few  other  people.  he’d  give  anything  to  be  back  home,  but  right  now?  he  knew  he  had  to  stick  around  here  and  do  his  job.  “i  get  it,  hopefully  it’ll  feel  like  home  soon  enough.”  he  nods  slowly,  pointing  down  the  street.  “the  university  is  just  down  here.”  hopefully  someone  would  be  able  to  help  olivia,  because  he  certainly  didn’t  want  to.  even  if  the  other  seemingly  had  no  idea  who  he  was.  “OH,  i’m  miles  by  the  way..  probably  should  have  started  with  that.”

“  hey  ,  all good  ,  kid  !  i’ve had entire conversations without remembering to introduce myself  ,  gotten so used to academic conferences where they announce who you are to everyone before you come on stage  ,  so  —  i know the feeling  .  ”  she’s feeling particularly genuine today  ,  it seems  .  “  thanks for your help  .  it was nice to meet you  ,  miles  .  ”  liv follows his pointing finger  ,  praying she doesn’t get lost again  ...  surely it can’t be that hard to find her way now  ?

“Oh no, my expertise in science is more on the forensics and chemistry sides, though I do have a wide appreciation for all facets of the subject matter.” Edward said with a grin. He did have to take some psychics classes in order to complete his schooling, but it never gripped him the same way that chemistry and forensics had. “I wasn’t inquiring about the legality of following you, but more on the social acceptability on your side.”

“  well  ,  i’m sure it’s only a matter of time before someone invents forensic physics  ,  ”  liv jokes  .  she’s pretty sure it’s already a thing  ,  but not meant in quite the same way  .  “  all good scientists are interested in multiple fields  —  i know quite a few chemists who are always fascinated to hear about my research  .  ”  she rolls her eyes at his nitpicking  ,  but shrugs  &  tries to keep her tone lighthearted  .  “  i was kidding  ,  ”  she says  ,  “  but yes  ,  of course i don’t mind  .  ”

          GIRL  INHALES  SLOWLY  ,  maintaining  her  composure  in  front  of  the  older  woman  and  gets  up  from  her  seat  .  she  utters  a  quick  ‘  be  right  back  ’  to  her  group  mates  and  starts  to  lead  the  other  .  “  oh  it’s  fine  !  the  city  and  esu  can  get  a  little  hard  to  navigate  from  time  to  time  .  you’ll  definitely  get  used  to  it  .  i’m  gwen  .  it’s  nice  to  meet  you  ,  liv  .  ”  it  feels  a  little  weird  calling  her  liv  .  but  even  supervillains  lead  normal  lives  too  !  “  you  mentioned  that  you’re  a  quantum  physicist  ?  ”

“  oh  ,  you’re a lifesaver  ,  ”  liv says  ,  following gwen through the veritable maze  .  “  nice to meet you  ,  gwen  .  and yeah  —  technically both a quantum and particle physicist  ,  but they’re pretty closely related fields  .  ”  getting a name hasn’t triggered any recognition  ,  which is both entirely typical for olivia’s memory  &  also incredibly annoying  .  “  what do you study  ?  ”

“Yeah, it’s like a school where you live there? Not like a school for boards - don’t worry I sometimes ask myself why we don’t teach boards too.” Kitty explained, processing in her intoxicated mind no concept of the fact that the woman wasn’t asking what a boarding school was. “No, I think it’s the hair.” That, she whispered meekly into the air, teetering herself on to the stranger’s arm.”Mmmm,” Kitty hums. “I like coffee.” And without missing a beat, she perks up and points forward. “To the coffee shop we go! Lead the way my fine-haired friend!” She pauses. “We are like, totally friends now, right?” 

silently  ,  liv breathes a sigh of relief that the intoxicated young woman accepts her suggestion  .  while she is equipped to force her to go home  ,  she’d rather not go full doc ock in the middle of new york  .  especially not for such a mundane reason  .  “  come on  ,  then  ,  ”  she says  ,  offering an arm for kitty to lean on should she need it  .  “ that depends on how you define friendship  ,  ”  liv answers to her question  ,  somewhat hesitant  .  “  ordinarily  ,  i’d want to have talked to you for more than just a few minutes before making a decision like that  .  ”

sleep: how many hours a night does my muse sleep? do they take naps? how restful is their sleep? do they experience nightmare? if so, how often?

anywhere from zero to twelve  !  depends how busy she is with research  .  she does take naps throughout the day if she doesn’t sleep a lot overnight  —  often on the bus  .  doesn’t get nightmares or dreams  ,  really  ,  so her sleep is usually pretty restful  .

stress: does my muse handle stress well? what is a surefire sign for others to tell that they’ve become stressed? how does stress affect them mentally / physically?

sometimes  ?  it depends what she’s stressed over  .  if it’s work  ,  she’ll often dive in and keep working well past when she should stop  ,  just because it’s hard to sleep when she’s stressed  .  if it’s personal  ...  she just gets really jittery  ,  she’ll probably tie her hair back  (  having hair in her face makes it so much worse  )  .
