Would also like to add onto this, if the work you're wanting to read is a well known classic, give Standard Ebook a try

Project Gutenberg is focused on uploading as many public domain works as possible, and while their files are perfectly serviceable, they sometimes have weird formatting, punctuation errors, and other little bits of weirdness that while not deal breaker, can distract from the reading experience

Standard Ebooks, meanwhile, takes these transcribed texts and edits them into extremely polished ebooks, just as good or better than an ebook you might pay for. Their collection is also highly curated so if you don't know what you're looking for and just want to browse for a new book, they're a great place to start! If there's something in the public domain I want to read, I always check Standard Ebooks first, then fall back to Project Gutenberg if a Standard Ebooks copy is not available

Spoke to a gen z person the other night and apparently the young folks don't know about the very legal sites from which you can access public domain media (including Dracula, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and other Victorian gothic horror stories)?

Like this young person didn't even know about goddamn Gutenberg which is a SHAME. I linked to it and they went "aw yiss time to do a theft" and I was like "I mean yo ho ho and all that, sure, but. you know gutenberg is entirely legal, right?"

Anyway I'm gonna put this in a few Choice Tags (sorry dracula fans I DID mention it though so it's fair game) and then put some Cool Links in a reblog so this post will still show UP in said tags lmao.
