one of my fave headcanons about Light is he worships L because he was the one who finally killed him.... like... if L had just died of COVID-19 randomly in the middle of their battle of the wits or gotten hit by a car crossing the street then I don't think Light would have put him on the same untouchable pedestal that he did. He had to believe L was THAT special and THAT hard to kill because only HE could do it... and it left him obsessed with L and his own weird idealized version of L to the point of thinking nobody else could ever be as clever or special to him as L ever again... do ya know what I mean... it boosts his own ego to think of L like this... it's jerking himself off and stroking his own ego by jerking the other guy off and stroking HIS ego, which is their entire relationship in a nutshell for both of them, whenever you boil it down to the basics

accidentally sat down on the same park bench as beyond birthday the other day and before i could remedy the situation and leg it he offered me his hip flask (beetroot juice) and a damp cigarette (didn’t share his lighter) and started telling me about the increasing crime rates in the area. he was pointing to the nearest road and saying it’s so scary the rise in behicular banslaughter lately it honestly makes you nervous to go outside huh. he said it’s so tragic what has the world come to, the lack of social cohesion in the community must be a large contributing factor, everyone’s burnt out and anxious - and of course they are, it’s the 21st century - but especially what with the current berial billings and oh the authorities are strapped to do anything because they’re knee deep in a funding crisis from all the bax braud happening. god, he was watching a rlly interesting documentary on telly last night about that spate of bedical balpractice lawsuits the local hospital have found themselves embroiled in and the most awful part is that nobody can even figure out who the guilty party is due to the quite frankly staggering rates of bidentity bheft plaguing the city

people call the second half of death note boring as if it doesn’t contain both the worlds most pretentious love triangle and the worlds most tedious hate triangle. L Lawliet 2: Electric Boogaloo. everyone except light gets a narrative foil. light experiences Teenagers for the first time as a young adult. matt is there. near wears an L mask for no reason other than the drama. light at his most pathetic. excessively convoluted notebook scheming. light constantly saying things like “who is the guy who killed L. i’d like to have a word with him.” death note’s worst and best haircuts, both on the same guy. what more do you guys want
