What is medical trauma?
I get asked this question often, and the truth is: medical trauma is a wide and complex term. It can look like many different things, but at its core, it’s about the major emotional distress that happens as a result of illness, treatment, or experiences within the medical system.
Medical trauma can include things like:
Medical procedures or surgeries
Experiencing severe pain or discomfort for long periods
Being dismissed
A frightening diagnosis
Bad treatment experiences or unkind medical staff
Medical neglect or outright medical abuse
Therapy or mental health treatment that is harmful (yes, therapy trauma is real)
It’s important to understand that medical trauma isn’t only about things “going wrong.” Even if the doctors and nurses do everything right, a person can still be traumatized. Medical procedures, even when life-saving, can be terrifying, invasive, or leave you feeling powerless. Being intubated, undergoing surgery, or waiting in uncertainty about an outcome can all take a toll on your nervous system.
And then there are the times the system does fail you. Being ignored, invalidated, or gaslit by medical professionals about your symptoms or pain can cause lasting harm. Chronic patients, disabled folks, and people who experience repeated dismissal are especially vulnerable to this type of trauma.
Medical trauma doesn’t have to come from a “life-threatening” illness. Any treatment, diagnosis, or ongoing medical experience that leaves you distressed, fearful, or powerless can be traumatic.
There’s so much more to say on this topic, but if you take one thing away from this post, let it be this:
If your trauma comes from medical experiences, you are valid.
#ty for this post!!!#means a lot to see medical trauma being validated since i have so much of it ldjsjdfh

Things that I hate:
People who are not asexual using asexuality or saying "I'm asexual" as a soft way to say "I do not reciprocate your feelings" 💀💀💀
*SPECIFICALLY asexual. Not aromantic. Whole different story.
Bro...asexuality IS an orientation, not a lie, not a struggle, not a rejection, not a form of rejection, not a tool for polite rejection. If you want to reject someone, just straight up say you're not interested.
Asexual people can have romantic attraction. Asexual people CAN fall in love. We just don't wanna bang. That's it. Not because we choose to abstain or fallen into purity culture...we just...don't feel it. Don't feel, don't relate.
Asexuality ≠ not interested/not crushing on somebody.
Asexuality = lack/no sexual attraction. That's it.
#someone did something similar to me once#(they were breaking up w me though lol)#(and then immediately turned around and started dating someone else)#i was like#bitch i AM aroace you cant have spent our entire relationship dismissing that and then turn around and give me this bs#it's not some magical get out of jail free card to avoid having an actual conversation with me tf???#yeah that was a dumb situation#opal speaks

Okay so I have my hamper in my bathroom. And I have a shower (well it’s a shower tub combo but the shower’s still there). And I am just now realizing that, in Date Everything terms, it would be absolute HELL in there. I mean like. Johnny and Jean are loud and annoying enough and Sinclaire has existential crises and screams sometimes but adding HARPER AND DIRK to the mix???? Idk how Tyrell or Bathsheba or Amir would get any sleep in a shitfest like that. At least Barry is safe I keep him in my room

I'm technically aroacespec, but I consider myself closer to allosexual than alloromantic, and I fear that's something alloallos won't really understand. I'm more aromantic than I am asexual, despite technically being on both spectrums. Sometimes I forget I'm even acespec because I relate to aroallo so heavily. Am I weird?? Is this weird????
-🐤
that’s not weird, and it’s totally okay to use aroallo (even if you’re technically aroacepec!!) if you feel that it’s more comfortable :)
#ANON TY FOR PUTTING THIS FEELING INTO WORDS OMG#i am in exactly the same boat!!!#i usually just tell people i'm an aro lesbian#am i a lesbian in the allosexual sense?#or in the oriented aroace sense?#they will never know.....#i will also never know..... /j#nice to see a fellow aroacespec person w similar feelings abt their orientation#ty for sharing this anon and op!!#aromantic

if you’ve been following me for 4+ years i’m certain you could make a chart of every character i’ve gotten attached to and it would tell you more about me than any therapist’s notes ever could. but we don’t have the time for that. there are other things at hand. do not even worry about it. next exhibit. we’re moving along. we’re walking
#recently i realised that almost all of the characters ive gotten extremely attached to fit into a 3 circle venn diagram#if they are deeply traumatised#occasionally violent#and/or blue#then im basically guaranteed to like them#what does this say about me? well.#i'm scared to find out#opal speaks
