I finally got my hands on demo four and i have to say it was very unsatisfying narratively.

Last chapter we were forced to confront our hatred and revealed the source of the voices, and that is not reflected in chapter four. The protagonist acts selfishly as they always have, and says nothing to the Captain in an attempt to calm them.

It feels like chapter three should have taken place last in the narrative, because for our protagonist to have no change at all after fighting the literal embodiment of hatred??? It just feels off.

I was talkking to a friend about how Inanimate Insanity's ending compare's to One's ending.

I've always defended One's ending. It makes sense. Every episode leading up to it gives you a sliver of hope before tearing it away from you. The best example I can think of is Liam and Bryce getting ready to go face Airy but then Bryce disappears. There never was going to be a happy ending. That was expected. But at least Airy was defeated. While it's sad they might never go home, at least the hurt won't be continued.

But... Inanimate Insanity isn't written to be like that? For a long time inanimate insanity has been telling this story about breaking the cycle of abuse. It's why Marshmallow is so much happier when she leaves to live with people she trusts and loves. Rather than forcing herself to go along with a game of resentful people.

This idea that even the people who tried to leave the show, wanted nothing to do with it- The people who tried, despite being given these bad odds, to be better... also have to die? Knife and Suitcase can't make that choice for them. Cobs still wins. He's irritated at best, but he has Mephone back. He'll likely use him to summon the Light Shimmers back. So was everything was for nothing?

No one gets out of it. It's not the right type of ending for inanimate insanity.

#THIS #THIS SO FUCKING HARD #Watching the ending made me feel like II was trying so hard to be one when it cannot be because of its roots #I do think theyre going to be making another episode after this (after all i did see them post looking for new animators)#But even so... This is rough it /really/ feels incomplete
