consider: Rumi has a prey drive now. it's not huge, but it's definitely there

so if you did something to get her attention, and then you run right after, there's a good chance she's gonna get up and start chasing you

but Zoey and Mira didn't realize this immediately. they roughhouse kinda often, and it usually results in Zoey running away from an irritated Mira who half-heartedly tries to catch her

Zoey is being a menace as usual and snatches some food out of Mira's hand. Mira tries to grab her but Zoey manages slips out of her grasp, and she just decides to let it go because the couch is too comfy and she'll just go get more food later

imagine her surprise when Rumi leaps over the back of the couch and starts sprinting after Zoey

and she is fast. inhumanely fast. it's terrifying

and all Zoey can hear is the sound of Rumi's socked feet pounding on the hardwood behind her and she doesn't know whether to laugh or scream so she just does a panicked shriek laugh (yknow like when your heart leaps into your throat)

now she's on the floor, Rumi's on top of her, they're both panting

then Rumi comes to her senses. her heart's pounding, she doesn't know why she's in the hallway when she was on the couch ten seconds ago, and she sees Zoey underneath her and starts apologizing profusely like oh my god are you okay i can't believe i did that-

Zoey's trying to calm her down when Mira comes around the corner and sees them in the state they're in and she figures out pretty quickly what happened

she grew up with quite a few high-energy dogs that would chase after you if you ran away from them. so she concludes Rumi must have something similar to that

and hearing that, at first, it sounds ridiculous. and Rumi immediately denies it because she's not a dog, what?

only to immediately be proven wrong when Mira suddenly takes off in the other direction and Rumi can't help but jump up and run after her

For further consideration: Rumi is deeply competitive. Brennan Lee Mulligan levels of competitive. She’s soooo lucky she’s never been asked to take her jacket off for five points because if she had been it would’ve been over for her. This is partly due to her being groomed to be the best at everything and to never make mistakes, and partly due to (maybe just me projecting) autism that never once allowed her to believe competition can be lighthearted and not mean a whole lot.

So when there’s a riff/off she won’t start it but by GOD will she finish it.

1) Mira always accidentally starts the riff-offs bc she's always singing to herself. like, always. it is constant background noise for the other two. so GOD FORBID Zoey tunes in and hears her and echoes it bc now it's a competition. and it's wraps if Rumi is also there

2) yes, she absolutely is Brennan Lee Mulligan levels of competitive, and she WILL ruin Mario Kart 8 Deluxe night

after getting used to it, Zoey and Mira don't really get frustrated with her anymore. now they just rage-bait her to see how far they can push her before she can reign herself back in

clingy rumi attaching herself to zoey anytime she can is so correct and lovely but clingy rumi latching onto mira at all times of the day is so special to me,,,,, the way mira was in the scene when she goes into rumi's room, i could see her just nearly breaking the first time rumi curls up in her lap like mira is the safest place she could ever be

Rumi definitely wasn't the touchiest person pre-canon. she didn't have an aversion to touch, per se, she just rarely initiated. i have my thoughts as to why but that's a whole other thing

so finally being comfortable in her skin is what allows her to reciprocate and initiate affection the way she's wanted to for years. and now she's a "i need to be inside your skin" type of clingy. and i think she would naturally go for Zoey first, since Zoey is already so clingy like that so it's almost like nothing's changed (Zoey is having a ball with this development)

Mira's such a softie and all she wants to be is a safe space for the other two. there was never much purposeful touching EXCLUSIVELY between her and Rumi unless it was something comforting or just a brushing their arms or legs on the couch. maybe the occasional cuddle pile on someone's bed

she always knew Rumi was a little weird about touch? and Mira herself also isn't the most touchy-feely person ever, and she gets most of her physical affection from Zoey, so she never really allowed herself to dwell on it too much

but to have Rumi, this person she's known for the better part of a decade, her best friend with whom she has always felt like there was a sort of wall in between them, seek her out in that way? to have Rumi walk into the living room and curl up into her side? tuck her head under her chin like it's nothing? yes, she does cry

and Rumi is taken aback a little

Rumi: are you...Mira, are you crying?

Mira's the one to find out first. it's a relatively new development in her demon transformation, and Rumi's trying to roll with it. it'll go away eventually, and she'll learn how to control it soon

she's just chilling on the couch in shorts and a crop top, and her patterns are shimmering idly. her horns are a pretty dark purple color, maybe about six inches in length and blunt at the tips, and her tail is moving on its own bc she can't quit feel it yet (it's like learning how to move a new muscle) and it's just flicking back and forth. she's touching her horns and it's the same sensation as rubbing your elbow

and Mira walks in and she stares at all the half-demon glory and Rumi gets nervous. maybe this is too weird. she tentatively says "is something wrong?"

and Mira just goes "oh Zoey is gonna eat you alive"
