She sighed upon hearing his words, putting the clothes back where she had taken them from. Evie shrugged her shoulders, one hand still holding on to the fabric of one of the dresses, gently stroking it. She kept her eyes on it, not wanting to face whatever the rest of the world had in store for her. “Trust me, going home is the last thing I want”, a gentle shaking of her head before she mustered up a smile and finally turned towards him, “But I do plan on staying in this town for a while. And I think I at least owe them to… you know, tell them myself? Before I run into my mom at the grocery store and she makes a very ugly scene. Her parents did not deserve dinner, not if Evie was concerned, but her brothers very well did. “As I said, haven’t been in Holloway for ten years. I do not even know if the places for dinner here are still good. And maybe a quiet thing behind closed doors is a better option.” She shook her head again. “Sorry, I shouldn’t dump all this on a stranger. I am Evie though, thanks for listening”, she put out her hand for him to shake.
Orion chuckled. “Now that would’ve been drama I would’ve liked to pay for,” he said with a grin, but he shook his head right after. “Alright, still, small boquette of flowers like that... under the average, shouldn’t be doing that,” he suggested. “Some booze could work?” Alcohol always made a reunion much lighter. “To avoid the drama?” he asked. Certainly he had no idea what the situation between her and her family was, but if her mom wanted to make a scene in the grocery store... well, that should say enough. “Ah, no worries, love me some good drama.” He accepted the hand. “Orion,” he said, refraining from any more detail aside from his nickname.

“Static shock. That’s all. I’m very conductive.” This excuse came easily; Maxime was not accustomed to casually discussing the quirks of his species. And so, he would not. He rolled on his heels a bit and tucked his hands into his pockets, perhaps an indication that he had no intention of trying again. “It’s just a ring. Doesn’t seem the sort for weddings or engagements. But expensive-looking. Someone’s grandmother’s.” This was, he did not quite realize, an psychic impression taken on from the contact. “They must be searching for it desperately,” he mused on. “What does one do in this town when they find something? Do you have groups for lost and found? Online, I mean. A large gemstone like that, you turn it in to the wrong place, you might never see it again.”
-
“Aahhh,” Orion said, dragging out the sound as long as possible. Of course he didn’t believe the other, mostly because he was about eighty percent sure you couldn’t get a shock from a ring, and he was too low on data to look it up. He chuckled. “Of course, always the grandma,” he said, watching the other’s physical expression, it would seem that neither of them were interested in picking it back up. “You’re asking me? Wrong person to ask, friend, I haven’t been in this bleak mess for more than a few weeks,” he admitted, bending low enough so his face was almost touching the ring, as he studied it. “Police maybe? If it’s this expensive.” He didn’t touch it, it looked silver, and he had no interest in getting a burn scar.

Open starter @hollowstarters Location: Outside the Library Time: Late Evening
Maxime enjoyed his ability to perceive little things. And so he looked. By now, he had not been in town very long, and staying still in temporary lodgings, he had very few things with which to fill the hours between work and research. There were no chores or social calls, and so, he wandered. And he looked. Weaving his way through the still damp streets of Holloway now, he paused outside the library building when he noticed a piece of jewelry, a ring, shimmering in the waning light.
When he ducked down to pluck it from the ground, however, something rapid and violent flashed through his mind’s eye. Anger, rage, terror, fear. The pictures and feelings rippled momentarily through him, and a gasp escaping his lips, Maxime let the item fall away. “Uh, hello. This looks expensive. It’s not yours, is it?”
Orion made a face, then looked at the ring, then at his own clothing - second hand wear that clearly was either a size too big, or several sizes too big. Comfy though, big jacket against the rain, oversized t-shirt with some random American band on it, pants that were nice and loose and held there by a belt, and whatever big boots he could find that weren’t too tight. “Well... it certainly would work with my aesthetic, but I’m afraid I’m not the owner. Still, your reaction to it? Did it burn you? Is it silver? Or possessed maybe? Do I attempt to pick it up?” The last question was more to himself than to the stranger, and he sat down on his hunches in front of it.

@hollowstarters
She hadn’t gotten around to visiting her family yet and some part of Evie - a huge part to be honest - did not really wish to go there at all. The whole town seemed to be on edge, partly because of the storm, partly because of the dead werewolf and if she was being quite honest she had not expected it would cause such a fuss with all supernatural factions. It was important she kept up her guard now, and most of all her disguse. “So”, her hand went through the clothes desplayed outside one of the many small boutiques, “Which of these says Kind of sorry for not calling for ten years, more?”
“None,” Orion commented, making a face. “If that’s what you’re going for, you’ll need to invest, go big or go home, or well... don’t go home, I guess?” He smirked. “Not to say you want to bring these home, but I wouldn’t know what other place someone wouldn’t call for ten years or more. I’d say, get something bigger on the inside, or treat them all to dinner. I’ve never been in the situation myself, but I know what I would want if someone disappeared on me for ten years.”

hollowaydevon:
Devon’s brows furrowed at the voice’s words, though it wasn’t necessarily in a bad way. It wasn’t often people came looking for work in Holloway, and if they did it certainly wasn’t often that they found their way to his garage. Slowly, Devon rolled himself from beneath the Beetle, standing slowly and turning to face the speaker. “You’re bold.” He commented, stepping a bit closer. “I respect that.” Giving the other a once-over, Devon shrugged nonchalantly. “What’s your name? And, now that you’ve told me what you can do, why don’t you tell me what you’re interested in? Learning, I mean. You wanting to stick with what you know, or are you trying to learn the business?” He asked, gesturing to the cars behind him.
-
Orion smiled, used to being told to f*ck off by now, he was kind of happy to see someone who might be interested in at least hearing him out. He straightened his back a little, nodding. He was bold, though most didn’t have much of an opinion about it. He didn’t have a resume he could share with people, he didn’t do all that social media stuff, so all he had was his attitude, and what that could bring him. “Gang In-ho, though I go by Orion,” he said, and smiled at the questions, then at the cars. He had fixed small bits of cars once or twice in his life, when they were stuck in the middle of nowhere, but he didn’t know if he had the right kind of analytic mind to learn it quickly enough. “Well, the only way to understand a business is to get familiar with every part of the process,” he said. “I have never shied away from wanting to further my own knowledge. I know very little of cars, but I’m very willing to learn.” Working for Yoona’s parents, Orion had done what he could to further his position within the company, oftentimes without actual guidance.

for: open ( @hollowstarters) location: adrew’s automotive
Devon shook his head as he looked up at the underside of the ‘45 Beetle that had been dropped off a couple of days ago. It was a bigger job than he’d expected when he agreed to work on it, and to follow the owner’s instructions that he be the only individual in the shop who worked on it. Devon had been hesitant then, but when the owner offered to pay double, there was no way he could turn it down. Ever since the Holidays he’d been searching for a way to give bonuses worth more than a few $10 gift cards and an extra PTO day; he couldn’t walk away from the cash. He was diligent, a perfectionist in his work, as he always was. But, it seemed as though the deeper he dug, the more he discovered. He was under the Beetle when he heard the sound of footsteps at the entrance to the garage. “Welcome to Andrews Automotive, my name’s Devon. I’ll be out in just one moment, but in the meantime, how can I help you?” Despite the fact that he rattled the words completely on autopilot, his tone was still warm and welcoming, a stark difference from the person he’d been just three short years ago.
Orion took his hands from his pocket, smiled his winning smile and then said - completely out of nowhere and probably too eager. “I’m looking for a job.” He didn’t wait for an answer right away. “I have very little experience with cars, but I know how to help run businesses, get budgets in order, make price lists, get customers.” He was going around making his little speech everywhere, hoping someone would bite. And if they didn’t, no worries there, he would turn it into a conversation and help him and Yoona decide if they wanted to stay here.

Mickey nodded, considering Orion’s words. “You sound optimistic, at least. That is something, although it may not feel that way at times. I do wish you luck, Orion, on your quest to find your friend.” Turning her head, Mickey studied the other, eyes giving them several once-overs behind her oversized sunglasses. His statement drew an obvious smirk to her lips, and she raised one eyebrow in response. “Is that so? Perhaps I’ll keep that in mind. Never know when that juicy tidbit may come in handy. You’re quite a candid person, Orion. I have a great respect for that. Too many folx have far too much to hide these days. I much prefer blatant honesty. Hold nothing back, I say. Life is far too short, and I am far too pretty to waste time decoding the experiences of others. Give it to me straight, or don’t give it to me at all.” Her tongue-in-cheek tone was obvious, though she left it to Orion to pick up on. There was no denying the small smile that formed at the corners of her lips, hearing the others’ explanation, though she picked up easily on the sentence he allowed to trail. “Ah, how lovely. Relationships like those are always to be cherished. Despite coming into the world being told who our family is, I realized early on that the old adage regarding blood being thicker than water was accurate. Only, however, in its entirety. Are you familiar with the entire saying, Orion?” Mickey asked curiously. “I do hope you find her. It seems important to you.” The final statement struck her, and the Vampire couldn’t help but to laugh once more, red lips parting to reveal her dazzling smile. “Is that so? Tell me, Orion, what exactly is your league?” Truth be told, her interest was piqued, though she played it off, unwilling to reveal her entire hand so early on.
-
Orion grinned. “Thank you.” He paused a moment, his mouth slightly open, then turned to the silence. Certainly he had a special power that could get him to sense her eventually. And he was about ninety-nine percent sure that he was right. And he was giddy to see Yoona again. Giddy and horrible. A very weird emotion. The smile on his face turned more genuine as he listened. He wasn’t used to anyone aside from Yoona complimenting him, or finding something good in him that he hadn’t even considered himself. “Hmm, never looked at it that way.” He paused some more, not too sure what to say, then laughed. “I think you may be the first person in a long while who’s gotten me to shut up,” he joked. He was biting his lip as he waited for the reaction to his safe. “Nope, didn’t know there was more to the saying than that,” he admitted honesty. Though he knew the ‘blood is thicker than water’ bit, though having no family, Orion could only imagine in what way familial bonds were stronger than friendships. He grinned. “Well, a gentleman doesn’t tell,” he said without a hint of seriousness. “I tend to go for those who instantly worship me,” Orion said, blushing slightly at the admittance to that. “Playing hard to get all that, and then wait for the girl to try and win me over. So I think that’s probably why she’d say it,” he said. “Truth is, I think I just need to meet the right person to turn the tables.”

“I mean, I have been on family vacations. But I’ve never done any proper touristy travelling on my own,” she shrugged lightly. “Yeah,” the girl smiled in response. “Often, yeah. Some stores do. Nonprofit secondhand stores usually return nearly all of their revenues to charitable causes after paying operating expenses.” Joey laughed a little. “Okay, I sounded lame saying that. But yes, I am thinking of applying for the head nurse position when it comes up.”
-
“Ah, you want to discover the world through your own eyes, I get that.” Though really, he didn’t. He technically didn’t have family after all. “Going to the places you’d most like to visit, skip the churches,” he said with a laugh. Orion chuckled. He turned a bit, looking back at the store. “They do that here too? Sounds like a fun job.” He grinned simply. “Do it! Get that position!”

Living in different places - because Orion pretended he needed his privacy, though he simply didn’t want to bother Yoona too much - meant seeing less of each other, but when the moon was high and full, there was no way he would spend another without her. His whole body craved to be near her, legs spinning with fire as he bounded over the road, picking up her scent easily as if he knew exactly what road she took. He appeared out of nowhere to jump into her, a yelp of playfulness coming from his throat. He laid his front legs almost completely down to the ground, butt up, tail wagging. Completely unaware of anything in his surroundings except for her. ( @kwonhyejins )

Aria passed the donut to the other, head cocking slightly. “Oh? Well, what’s her name? Perhaps I know her.” She commented, crossing her arms loosely over her chest. “I haven’t been here too terribly long myself- just about 6 years. Though, I certainly don’t know everyone.” Watching as Orion searched his wallet. “It’s a small town, so, really anywhere you can find. But, there’s an inn down the street.” She replied, pointing towards her right. “You can’t miss it. It’s clean, and it’s dripping with all that small town charm.”
-
Orion took a moment, not because he was reluctant to share the name, but because despite having been great at using her fake name all those months on the road, it was hard to remember it now. He had been looking for Yoona, but he knew he wouldn’t find her here under that name. “Hyejin,” he said. Using only her first name, just to be sure. In case she changed her surname. Orion chuckled. “I’d say six years is a long time,” he said. He laughed then. “Sorry, I mean, is Holloway a good town to stay in,” he asked again, blaming it on his English - easy to blame his English, regardless of how fluent he was. “I’m staying in one of the motels,” he admitted. “Pretty cozy.”

yoona had realized by now that, in a way, she kind of needed in-ho’s laid back way of carrying himself in order to have some sort of balance in her life. the world could be falling apart on their heads that he would be taking it like a champion and she would be stressing over anything and everything. that’s why they worked so well together, because sometimes he needed the seriousness and in others, she needed to relax. even if, at often times, she would just retort his jokes and quips with either a smack or an eye roll.
“it’s going great. i haven’t killed anyone yet, so i’m counting it as a win.” she replied, words dripping with sarcasm as they rolled off her tongue. “just drink your beer.” she waved him off in dismissal for whatever other joke he was planning on throw her way. yoona didn’t want for her sour mood to ruin their night. especially when it was such a relief seeing him again, right there, alive and kicking.
she nodded at his question. of course he would be able to land himself a job. even yoona with all of her qualifications was able to start over, doing something she’d never thought she would be able to do, so of course inho would, too. “i did, yes. he told me all about the packs territories in this town. quite a sharp fellow, if you ask me. i have yet to meet the other one. apparently they’re the charming one.” at least, that’s what she gathered from her conversation with henry. one was welcoming, the other, not so much. “why don’t you go rest at my place? you must be tired, right?” hyejin then fished her apartment’s keys from her backside pocket and slid it over to inho. “it’s two blocks from here. 1032 maine, it’s the apartment upstairs. you can’t miss. it’s the red door. i still have a few hours ahead of me here. you might as well get some rest. we’ll catch up later. or tomorrow.”
once in-ho was out the door, hyejin was able to focus on these small tasks at hand, and hopefully, time would pass quickly so she could head over to her place and do the same: shower and rest. they could talk tomorrow.
end.

“We are sharing, I like that, I like learning things,” the young witch laughed lightly. “I would love to go, maybe one day. I haven’t seen much of the world.” She smiled gently. “It just means, most of the stores donate money to charities. Like cancer research and heart disease and so on,” she told him. “I would like to, yeah. I’m young, I would like to be more, yeah.”
-
“You just said. Not even with your parents being well off? You haven’t gone travelling?” he asked. Orion didn’t go anywhere often either, unless if Yoona needed to travel for business, he was sure to follow, tracking every part of the journey, keeping her on the move. “What? They do? That’s pretty cool, I didn’t know that, do they do that here too?” he asked. “Head nurse is next then, right? And yes, twenty-six if I remember correctly.” He couldn’t help joking about that.

Theo nodded, listening to their story as if he was learning something important. Although you never knew when information about people could come in handy. “Ah for a small town we have a very active emergency department, you’d be surprised. And least you know who to call…”
-
“Yeah, wonder why.” Orion grinned, nodding with a clear expression of mystery. “I mean, I know who, though I have no idea how to contact you or how to call upon you. I guess if I call the alarm number and ask for you I should be good?”

kwonhyejins:
there have always been something comforting in in-ho’s touch. something hyejin hadn’t been able to figure out why, but she would often paint it off as him being family… and family, she’d learned, was a healing and comforting place. it was home. she could only hope that she could offer, not only the younger wolf standing before her, but also, anyone else who eventually decided to follow her, that same feeling. that sense of home. maybe that was why she was so scared of moving on… because the last time she led a group of people, she couldn’t protect them. she couldn’t keep them safe.
and it was in in-ho that she had found enough strength to carry on. enough strength to lift up her head and keep going, because they had both lost so much and they only had one another. there had to mean something.
she squeezed his hand, nodding her head in a slight lower of her defenses and letting him see how grateful she was for what he’d done. the past was now behind them and they could start over together. really start over. “did you make sure you were not followed?” finally letting go of his hand, hyejin reached up, adjusting his hair to her own liking, before busying her hands with something else. one of the old farts sitting by the bar, told her to stop fooling around with her boyfriend and pour him another beer. if looks could kill, that old man would’ve been dead by now. god she hated this. she hated having to serve these people.
once hyejin had managed to pour him a drink without biting his head off, she returned her attention to orion. “we can.” she nodded. “i’m just unsure whether we’ll have a place in this town or not. i’m still assessing all the corners, assessing the alphas… i’d like for us to stay for a few more weeks before making up our minds on that matter. it would not be fair to you to make a decision on my own, inho-yah.”
-
Orion scoffed as if to say ‘what do you take me for’. “of course I did,” he said in response. It felt natural to do so, and he figured he would continue regardless. They might be save now, but they were still wolves, and they knew they had to take care of each other. Even if that meant constantly being sharp. They always closed the window and the doors, and double checked the vents. One could never be certain, and it almost felt... well... nice, to be in control of something.
He smiled when she touched his hair, having missed it, even if at times he disagreed with how she wanted his hair. He almost moved a hand up to straighten it back. He smirked at the boyfriend comment, hating the costumer for Yoona, finding it funny that she was being forced to do this. Serve people, it didn’t suit her, it was kind of funny, and they enjoyed watching her for a moment. No other person was nearer to his heart, so he couldn’t help joke when she returned.
“Hows the job?”
Orion nodded, a grin on his face at the name. He went by Orion so often now, it felt good to hear her address him. He felt home, even though he knew home was on the other side of the world. “That sounds good, let’s do that, who knows, I might be able to land myself a job in a few, right. Then we can discuss things together. You said you spoke to one of the Alphas, Noona?”

kwonhyejins:
of course she missed her parents. that was something incredibly not up for discussion, so, there was no need to say it out loud, but they were dead. that much was an undeniable truth. period. chapter ended. the way she had missed gong inho throughout the past year, though? not really knowing what had happened to him or whether he was dead or alive? yeah… that was one of her least favorite years so far. following short to her parents’ death.
now, the second those words left his lips, hyejin had to pay close attention to the tasks at hand because she might as well either drop the glass she was holding or break it if she held it too tightly. “you found him?” slowly, she set the glass down and watched their surroundings. whoever wanted to listen to their conversation, so be it. hyejin didn’t really care about it. she was far too focused on inho and what he had to say to care about anyone else. “that’s…” a sigh escaped her lips. she ran her fingers through her hair, pulling the elastic band that tied it into a loose bun and untying it. all of a sudden, it was like it was trapping her… suffocating her.
leaning onto the bartop, hyejin drew in a breath, as if mustering all of her inner strength not to let her true feelings come out (because if they ever did, then it would be messy). “are you sure?” her dark hues were on orion now hoping he’d be lying, because now that she couldn’t keep on looking over her shoulders she was going to be forced to move on, right? she was going to be forced to face her own feelings about that whole thing and move forward.
being stuck was such an easy way out, though.
when orion mentioned staying, hyejin almost snorted as she switched to their mother language again. “i’ve had a quick encounter with one of the alphas the other day. quite the territorial little chap. what do you think though? do you want to stay?”
-
Orion studied her. He nodded. It had helped that he had done this for them, for the family he left behind, the pack that was murdered in front of him. He managed to switch off every part of himself, the morals he had, the person he was, to end it all once and for all. And looking at her now, he hoped nothing she said might break that resolve. He wasn’t ready for that. He had done his job, he had done what needed to be done. There was no reason to rethink any of it. So he nodded, firmly. “I am sure,” he said, locking eyes with her.
Did he see doubt in her eyes? Regret? He took her hand in his and tried a smile. “It’s over, it won’t haunt us now,” he suggested. Or well... it would haunt them. Him probably, most of all, but he was fine with that. She could move on.
Orion shrugged, easily switching back too, hearing it, and then returning it. “I don’t know yet, I haven’t met a whole lot of people,” he admitted. He had to admit he had ran into a few interesting ones. “We can start our own pack? Or join one? Right?”

Mickey cocked her head slowly to the side, showing an obvious interest in what the other was saying, though maintaining her focus on the walkway in front of them. “My. That sounds like an important friend. Are you saying you have found her here, or that you simply believe she may be?” She pressed, even more curious about Orion’s backstory given the tidbit of information. “I’ll take that as a compliment, I worked fairly rigorously to rid myself of the majority of it. If I’m not thinking, of course, it easily slips back. But, I prefer to blend in a little more with my surroundings than that.” Mickey nodded at their statement, smiling through her bright red lipstick. “I am, yes. Cosmetology has been my business for many a year, and I always dreamed of owning my own salon. As I’m sure I don’t have to tell you, I’ve never been the kind of woman to allow my dreams to pass me by. So, I made it happen.” There was a finality in her voice that was unmissable. The compliment came and her smile grew, a laugh akin only to a chime escaping her lips. “You are certainly full of compliments, Orion. Make no mistake, I won’t even think about stopping you. Though, it’s worth saying that this…Friend of yours must be one lucky lady.”
-
“I believe she may be here,” he answered. After all, Orion hadn’t found her yet, just gotten glimpses, tracked her scent, gotten information he figured could lead him to her. He would find her soon, he knew that much. This town wasn’t that big. “Really? I think that British accent is rather sexy,” he said in response, grinning. “Though... well, I can understand blending in, however,” he agreed. He smiled at her, that he could completely understand. Sure, it was never his dream, but it radiated from her. This intention, this need to do what she wanted to do. When she said ‘friend’ with the clear ring of ‘more than friends’ in the tone, Orion felt like clearing it up right away, he needed to ensure that there was absolutely no doubt about it. “We grew up together,” Orion said. “Her family took me in, since... well. So, I consider her my sister, like, I would murder for her.” Which he had, though, that was best left unspoken. “She would totally tell me you’re out of my league.”
