The link above is my cover of Chris Brown’s New Flame. I think I am going to grab this chance to promote my music as well? Well I just want to share how I do my covers. Honestly, I am still having a hard time editing and still trying to figure out how my recorder and the video editor works, so if you notice, the quality of my songs are different from the others as I am still exploring how I can do it perfectly. When it comes to video editing, I often put on videos of me singing because it really needs concentration, effort and time. I will tell you some secrets about this thing.
So the recorder I am using here in the video is the Scarlett Studio interface brought by mom from the U.S. My uncle gave this to me. I checked the internet how much it costs and it says that it is $250 in peso it is around P11,250. You can check it on amazon.com. I am really not sure if they have it here in the Philippines, but I have checked olx.com.ph and some are selling their used interface. It is really easy to connect on your computer because it uses a USB cable. And most importantly, you should be using mac or windows 8 so it will work perfectly.
For recording/editing/mixing, The scarlett studio bundle has its software application with it. But since I have garageband on my computer I did not download the software application that comes with scarlett studio because of its big size. Garageband actually has it all and works perfectly with my interface. I am still exploring though, it has a lot of features.
When recording, It has to be really, really quiet. because the microphone can pick up tiny sounds. It is better if the room is small so it can create nice sounds and echoes. In my case, my computer is placed in the sala that is why I am really having a hard time recording because the sound I am making goes out and does not bounce back. Plus, the noise of my family while they are talking. even though I ask them to talk quietly the microphone still finds a way to pick up every sound it hears. So I advise you to take your recorder in a quiet room.
Let’s talk about the video. I only do covers of songs with videos of me, because you really have to be presentable in front of the camera. Me? I always have the mood to sing when I haven’t taken a bath yet. LOL. I use Imovie in mixing the song with the video I made. So to put it together, you have listen over and over again and watch it over and over again to see if the song matches my actions in the video. Two things! First, you can make a video of yourself while recording your audio at the same time. It is much easier to mix the  audio and the video plus, it will look very natural and emotional. Second, I have done this already with my friend. You can do this, when you record the audio first before the video. But, this is harder. Because you have to memorize every single thing from the audio and do a lipsync. Many artists are doing this for their music video. Are you a good actress/actor? then you may have done this right! You have to repeat not only the lyrics of the song you have recorded, but also the emotion you have felt when you are singing the actual song. So it will look real and natural together with the audio.  So that’s how I do my covers. Sometimes I put it on youtube and facebook if there is a video.. and on soundcloud if it is just audio. Uploading takes time.lol Make sure you have great internet connection :) That’s it! follow me on soundcloud! haha https://soundcloud.com/mariea-orivae-guirao-santiago thanks Guys!
