dnd is so fucking great because sometimes you will be having a normal silly session and then 2 hours of roleplay will happen and murder everyone at the table on a psychological level. and the whole time the perpetrator is just sitting there evilly

I think one of my favorite DnD Things is when random rolls become retroactive Lore/Quirks for the character. Not even as a DM ruling, I mean something the whole table adopts organically, whether seriously or as a running joke.

A paladin I DMd for failing every single perception roll turned into him canonically needing glasses and not realizing it.

A combination of failed perception checks and concentration saves becoming a character having ADHD and that getting worked into the acting.

My gnome barbarian with low intimidation rolls despite doing/saying some actually terrifying things suddenly having a voice that cracks like the "WHEN WILL YOU LEARN?! WHEN WILL YOU LEARN?! THAT YOUR ACTIONS!! HAVE CONSEQUENCES!!" kid when he shouts.

Or my favorite, my tabaxi artificer, Gus, comedically failing every religion check when it comes to praying so now it's a whole plot point that gods literally do not perceive him.

My friend sometimes brings her six-year-old to our DnD sessions and my husband (the DM) lets her roll for all enemy attacks and sometimes he will show her a few figures and let her secretly pick what creature we meet next. Who needs encounter tables when you have a first-grader around

HI THERE I play a kitsune in pathfinder! the campaign I play in is a homebrewed setting so her backstory is gonna be a lil gibberish but I'll happily talk about kit :D

this is esther "curse" ramírez - primarily known simply as curse for in-world cultural reasons! she's an oracle of lore who got those powers after stealing and reading from an ancient tome of the true names of every being in existence, specifically she read the true name of the goddess of knowledge, which usually would be like summoning the god to use her as a vessel but luckily for curse kit has dyslexia and didn't get kits existence overwritten, just only a small piece of the goddess is part of her now \o/

(the other two images are of a dream she had and some faerie land shenanigans respectively :D)

the reason she stole the book to begin with is she found out that her fiance's parents were plotting to have Him read the book and get overwritten, and he didn't believe her when she tried to tell him, so as a last resort she fled on their wedding day with the book in hand. she's started adventuring with a group now (simply known as "The Outcasts" as all of them have had to leave their home for one reason or another) and on that journey she's learn a good handful of things like the fact that she's 1% goddess and that the "book" is actually a broken piece of the goddess's main angel named consilius (who currently is helping her out under the impression that she Is the goddess of knowledge). she's also reconnected with her fiance again, who's now a revolutionary leader after fully realizing what goal his parents were trying to accomplish and they both have also started dating a catfolk bard who taught them about the revolution in the first place! and that's (very basically) where her story's at right now :D
