I've seen so many takes on how both Hakuba and Kaito deal with the aftermath of Nightmare and the Dark Knight heist.

Chronologically, this actually takes place after they've both appeared in Detective Conan cases, so that means Kaito's dealt with at least two cases in which murders have taken place already. That said, this is different; someone's tried to take advantage of him as Kid/used Jii against him, and when he was figuring out how to get out of the situation the man's son (shown above) distracts him and causes him to fall.

The big thing here is that Kaito is directly responsible for having tried and failed to save someone on one of his heists, and he was clearly distressed when having to make the call to shoot the mask off the man's face so that his son wouldn't realise his father was the bad guy he'd been chasing.

And since Kaito isn't a criminal detective like all the other Gosho boys are, it hits him. Hard. It wasn't even his fault, but I can see him blaming himself - and I've seen people have Hakuba being sympathetic to him after this, because as shown in the panels above, he knows what likely happened, and that as much as Kaitou Kid is a criminal, he never wanted anyone to die.

It's honestly one of the big reasons I'm salty that Hakuba's not in Japan much after his first main appearances, because having him continue to attend school with Kaito and there be this thin line between "detective who wants to catch him and put him in jail" and "friend, who happens to know/has figured out his secret identity and who because of that knows when something is off with him and will give him shit for it or give him space when he needs" is SUCH a good dynamic that they miss out on by having him be absent.

I love how a lot of tumblr people really speaks my mind which I didn't know how to put it into words. I totally agree with these. I wish he would soon find someone who he can really trust and rely on, which is also why I ship him with Shinichi either.. he's the most green flag among all

yknow, i love kaishin/shinkai but every time i read an angsty fic (majority) my heart drops so far i feel it in my feet

i keep thinking about how people portray kaito, when to me he’s one of the loneliest possible characters with even fewer people knowing his identity because it can put them in danger. not just that but it also puts HIM in danger, just because he’s wanted by police and forces everywhere he goes— without knowing the actual reasons why. realistically his life is always in danger, more so than shinichi’s. he has the organisation targeting him, police, even detective friends and on top of that having your best friend bash KID: idk but in his position i don’t know how much he’s been through… i sometimes think he’s far more vulnerable because he has to put up more walls and façades.

one reason why i support kaishin is because shinichi doesn’t unnecessarily have a reason to catch him- knowing him he’ll want to find out more and have a proper reason to go after him. he KNOWS kaitou kid isn’t a bad person. he doesn’t know his identity or want to pursue him recklessly, and i should think kaito appreciates his detective a lot. hakuba and aoko give me mixed feelings.. i like aokaito but… i just think relationships based around honesty would be better.

i love aoko, i really do.

kaito really deserves someone who loves and understands him at his best and at his worst. his support system is much smaller than shinichi’s. to top it off, kaito is really devoted to his dad’s cause that he had to pick up OUT OF NOWHERE. that amount of burden after losing his dad, a somewhat absent mom and then finding out about jii san having to take on the mantle… i can’t imagine how much pain is repressed on his part.

in short i really love kaito kuroba as a character and adore him strongly. fics that use his phobia to attack him or to cause him heavy fear saddens me a lot. i still reinstate my point that kaito is one of the loneliest characters i’ve seen and characters that have to play an ‘antagonistic’ role in order to protect people they love and avenge their family just hits really hard

along with magic kaito’s series unlikely to ever get an ending or closure…

Kaito Kuroba deserves so much better.

It's funny that I've been in dcmk fandom since around 19 years ago, and now it's 2024 and I'm still here. (Even tho there's a lot nonsense in the story plot. I could roast but still here anyway.. is this love and hate? lol)

Kaito has been always my oshi all this long.. no matter how far I went away for another fandoms, and went hiatus from dcmk for like 5 years, I would always go back here again and again.. I guess I've grew to comfortable here like it's my safe place (???)

I ship both hakukai and kaishin, tho hakukai was my original ship.. but I also love kaishin a lot.. not even cousins thingy could stop me lol seems like I'm broken 🤣

No but can we talk about how fantastic Yamaguchi Kappei's voice acting here is. How we simply know - with eyes closed and on the first drop of 'ORE WA' - that this is Kuroba Kaito and NOT Kudou Shinichi doing the usual movie intro.
