I thought this might be of interest to those of you who re-watched Wonderland at the end of summer.

(x)
Editor’s Note: The Official Wonderland twitter account rose from the dead to suggest binge watching the series and Adam promoted it. Suggests the series may be relevant to 6.09.
Please note that Jafar ended up as a genie at the end of the short lived series.

Not to mention OUATiW was far superior to the OUAT seasons that followed it, so its sort of like shitting on something that was actually good
Yes, this too.
Because OUATIW knew it had to tell a cohesive story from the start, so it didn’t bother introducing pointless side plots or filler episodes. It didn’t leave room for open ended plot threads that they’d “tie up next season.”
They set out to tell a well-written story and they did.
They made Alice both a lovesick girl who wants her happy ending and a badass fighter who doesn’t let anyone stand in her way. (There’s a reason my tag for her is “kicking ass in a pink party dress.”)
They let Cyrus, the male love interest, be a damsel in distress, but never made him feel threatened by Alice’s strength and independence.
They wrote Will as a complex, multifaceted character who was completely validated in both his anger at Anastasia and his forgiveness of her.
They gave Ana a redemption arc that was about truly righting her wrongs and becoming a better person, instead of simply proving herself to her love interest.
They made Jafar a heartless villain with understandable motives, but never portrayed his actions as justifiable or sympathetic.
They set up the typical “bad boy best friend vs. sweetheart boyfriend” love triangle for Alice and then never went anywhere with it, because her friendship with will as just as strong and important as her romance with Cyrus.
They created complex characters and a genuinely compelling plot in only thirteen episodes, and now they’re treating it like it never even mattered in the first place.

I find it amusing to think about what Jafar’s first experience with his genie duties might have been like. Can you imagine how PO’ed he was to realize that someone else is his master, and he’s under their control?

↪ Will & Anastasia, once upon a time in wonderland |“You had real love once, and you know it’s not that simple. It can be. No, it’s messy. It means arguing and making up and laughing and…and crying and struggling. And sometimes, it doesn’t seem worth it. But it is. And, at the end, when you’re in love, no matter what happens, you forgive each other. I forgive you, Ana, for what you did to me.“

Discussion questions!
Wonderland rewatch officially ended at 6:00 this morning (EST) –a totally arbitrary ending point, based on my habit during the rewatch of starting posts for each day’s scheduled episode at 7 am, and ending them at 6 am the next morning. There are a few last gif sets, mostly those that weren’t for a specific episode, scheduled to post through 7 pm Sunday. And Ill keep checking the tag through the weekend for any remaining posts–I still need to write up my own commentary post for 1x13, so others’ late posts are more than okay.
Now that we’re done with the Wonderland rewatch, anyone want to discuss? (After all, we have to pass the time till the OUaT s6 premiere somehow.)
Here are a few that occurred to me during the rewatch, or that I saw pop up in others’ commentary posts. Note: some of my discussion questions cross over into the OUaT main series. If your answers include spoilers or speculation about s6, please tag it accordingly.
The Well of Wonders– Wonderland established that the Well of Wonders in Agrabah and the one in Wonderland were connected. Anatasia outright said that magical waters flow underneath all of the lands. Does that mean that the well in Storybrooke is also connected to the others? Could Nyx appear there, and could the water in that well heal those whose destinies are unfulfilled?
The genie’s curse– Cyrus said that he and his brothers were cursed into their bottles. If being a genie is a curse, and True Love’s Kiss can break any curse, then why didn’t Alice’s kiss break Cyrus’ curse and set him free?
Will Scarlet’s timeline– According to the producers, the opening scenes of Wonderland, with Will in Storybrooke, coincide with the appearance of the wraith in SB at the beginning of s2. Which would mean that Wonderland events coincide with OUaT s2, I suppose? Will Scarlet’s appearance in OUaT s4 takes place after Wonderland, again according to the producers. Lacking any explanation from canon or the Powers That Be on why Will was in Storybrooke or what happened to Anastasia, what are your personal theories and head canons to explain it all?
I think I had more questions in mind, but can’t remember them at the moment, and I kinda need to wrap this up for now and go do real-life stuff. I’ll add to this post later if I think of more, and others are welcome to pose their own discussion questions and I’ll reblog them. I’ll be checking the #ouatiw16 tag throughout the weekend for responses. For now, I’ll conclude with the most important and perplexing Wonderland question of them all:
What the hell is a Tweedle?

I like to think that Once Upon a Time in Wonderland happens after Season 4, while everybody is in Camelot/comes back from Camelot. Which would explain Will's absence from Season 5. This also fits into Jafar's appearance in Season 6 happening after his defeat in OUATiW, as the writers implied from the special released on the ABC website. That way, Will being with Belle fits into the time period that he was without a heart and coping with losing Anastasia.
You’re not the only one taking that route. I also got this response:
ransomideas
I’m going to choose to believe that Will’s OUAT appearance was before OUATiW. That way they didn’t ruin everything for him.
One theory for Wonderland happening before, one happening after. However, neither of those theories agree with what the creators of both series have told us about how the timelines match up. I know that ignoring canon is a favorite coping mechanism in the fandom, and I’m not here to tell anyone not to take that route. But all info from A & E says that Will was in SB dating Belle after the events of Wonderland.
I know, I know...I don’t like it either. Having just rewatched Wonderland and getting totally pulled into the Scarlet Queen love story, I hate that they threw that away in OUaT s4. But I’m also a Rumbeller and hate that they had Belle pursuing a casual relationship with another man, mere weeks after breaking up with her True Love. The writers did a disservice to both established couples, all for a brief relationship that didn’t go anywhere.
As for Jafar’s timeline, I’ve seen more than one person speculate that his role will be limited to flashbacks. It’s possible that his part in s6 will precede all the Wonderland events, leaving his later story as is.
