We need to stop devaluing non-speaking communication.

I honestly believe that sign language should be taught in school. Non-speaking people aren't the only ones who benefit from it. Making the world a more accessible place helps all of us.

being disabled is so fun because sometimes you can just be going about your day like normal and with zero warning your body will be like you have to lay down Right Now or you will pass out

If you’re going to make your post inaccessible, the least you could do is not use accessibility tools at your own leisure for whatever purpose you see fit.

legally disabled once again, have been considering spinal fusion recently

anyone have opinions on spinal fusion ? personally #notsure but i heard i might become taller if i get it so

able bodied people, ask yourselves this:

is your disability allyship conditional, or convenient?

will you be willing to not use fancy fonts or symbols if someone with a screenreader asks you not to online?

will you judge someone with an autoimmune disorder for having skin infections you deem gross or unsanitary?

when a deaf person speaks differently than a hearing person, will you still take them seriously?

when a nonverbal person needs an AAC or text to speech device, will you still include them in your conversations?

when your mobility aid using friend needs help in an inaccessible area, will you wait up for them, or help them if they ask?

when someone with tourette's is having trouble getting their point across because of tics, will you be patient and listen?

when someone with a stutter is having a conversation with you, will you take them seriously?

will you listen when someone with an invisible disability needs the big stall, or the accessible seat on a bus?

When your college with POTS needs to snack on salty foods, will you find them annoying?

when a person with hyper-mobility stretches and their arms bend out, will you stare?

“complicity and silence go hand in hand so i Must Speak Out (even if i don’t know very much) so that i am not complicit” is an understandable trap to fall into, but it is a trap. it is better not to muddy the waters by speaking about something you don’t know much about. sometimes the best thing to do is to listen and hold off for the time being

i also don’t think that Talking About This is as important as people think, especially if it is talk without laying out actionable steps you can take. too much admiring the problem without trying to find a solution makes jack a dull boy

my opinion on the situation in israel/palestine:

- I'm 16 years old, live in Poland and have never met an Israeli or Palestinian. I have not done any extensive research and all my information about it stems from social media.

- My opinion on this is as valuable as the dirt under my shoes.

Be nice and don't mock tumblr users that communicate differently.

Examples:

1.) Typing quirks

2.) No punctuation

3.) Random Capitalisation

4.) Long run on sentences

5.) Frequently misspelled words

6.) Missing spaces between words

7.) Repeating words and sentences

8.) Posts audios and videos instead of typing

9.) Express themselves through custom emojis

10.) Use an AAC (Augmentative and alternative communication) device

Some users have intellectual disabilities, use speech to text, struggle with grammar, have hand tremmers, have high support needs, etc.

Regardless of how they communicate and their reason why, they still deserve respect. They are trying their best.
