Annihilation is really the best distillation of Romana, Leela, and Narvin's dynamic. Romana's depressed, passively suicidal, and blaming herself for a friend's death and then sees getting bitten by a vampire as a good negotiation tactic before deciding to commit mass murder. Leela is terrified at the prospect of not being useful and is ready to turn herself into a weapon to keep her friends alive while suffering the burden of being the only person with any emotional intelligence on this planet. Narvin is out of his element and is trying to find any foothold that he can on his current reality, is bullied into admitting that he (gasp) cares about his friends, and tries to be the voice of reason to convince them not to sacrifice themselves before being almost fatally injured himself. also Braxiatel is a dog (literal this time). Leela: I am surprise to hear you would use the stars to guide you, Narvin. I always thought the heavens were of no interest to you. Narvin: I’m a cynic, Leela, not stupid. Basic astrophysics and astronomy are pack and parcel of Academy training.

And we all know that Narvin did his homework in all of his classes with due diligence. Also I appreciate his open acknowledgement of his cynicism - in my opinion people often will try to justify their cynicism (both in media and in real life) so Narvin not doing that is refreshing.

So Romana's blood has something of the great vampire in it, making her resistant to being converted into a vampire. I think Annihilation's implication is that this is from her run-in with the Great Vampire in State of Decay, but a handful of other EU sources (Goth Opera, the Book of the War) strongly imply that regeneration in it's purest form was stolen from the vampires (and yes i know timeless child check the links in my pinned post for making that all work), which makes me wonder if what's actually going on is all Time Lords have that essence of the Great Vampire in their veins?

Which yes, the True Lords can regenerate, and they clearly don't have that connection. But perhaps their regeneration is much less effective - it would explain why they were doing so badly in the Eternal War.
