9 Easy Steps To Writing an Expository Essay
1.       Know your readers. Like any other writing materials, it is always advised that the author should consider your audience especially your target ones. Do not just write about anything. You should first know what they want and what their expectations are. If there are any given guidelines in the first place, you should follow them strictly and properly and then start to build your momentum from there.
2.       Gather necessary evidence. Expository essay is strictly a fact-finding type of an essay. That means you cannot put any unwanted information or personal opinion on the matter. Use all medium to cross-check all viable facts and statistics. Use only credible sources and well-renowned personalities and individuals to use as a background or foundation for the topic.
3.       Create a draft. This is very important especially when you have gathered too much information. Write a rough draft of everything that you have collected from minor points to major ones. And then select the points that are more helpful on the subject that you are going to discuss. Choose those that are right and does not open up new topics or raise further questions.
4.       Prepare the outline. Always go for the five-paragraph format. It is the standard format of all essays and is more convenient as it does not require the author to go all out and write stuff that is quite irrelevant. The outline of course consists of:
Introduction
Thesis statement
 Body of the essay
Conclusion
5.       Write an introduction. Essay introductions should be enticing to the eyes and attractive to the brain.  But as an introduction for the Expository essay, the author cannot use personal opinions. All he can do is utilize the facts and use it to make an appealing approach as an introduction.
6.       Craft a concise Body of your essay. The basic rule is to have each paragraph get only one argument. And each argument gets their own supporting facts, statistics and supporting documents. Do not try to put two or more on a single paragraph as it will only convolute your points and would lead to misunderstanding. Most good writers initially offer all points that go against their thesis and proceed to disproving all negative traits and factor. This way, your reader will take it as a well-researched piece as you have covered a lot of angles.
7.       Finish to a good conclusion. While it seemed easy to do, conclusions are as complicated as the introduction and thesis statement combined. Any wrong approach and your essay might not be as conclusive as you intended it to be. Most students make mistakes as to writing their conclusion much similar to the way they wrote their thesis statement. Not realizing the redundancy they created. Conclusions are supposed to be the final stage of the essay and therefore expected to give a final say on your argument. It should offer not less than a solution, a resolution or some sort of a closure.
8.       Always make a habit of proofreading. When writing a very long essay, expect an error or two especially when writing is not your expertise. But even if you are already a good writer as what you claim to be then it is still a positive thing to always double check your written material.
9.       Do a revision if found necessary. If the first draft did not meet your intended result then do not hesitate to revise your work. If you feel that you could make it better then you should do it. Revision should be done with the intention to improve style and clarity of your essay.
When all else is done properly and accordingly then it is time to submit your masterpiece. Always take pride at what you do as you go along especially when writing becomes your passion.
