I Love You - Man!
Observation: There is a growing number of people in society that are encouraging cis men to be in touch with their feelings and emotions. Subsequent to that, these men are able to work through and voice their experiences. This has been extremely empowering, especially for communities that are deeply rooted in traditions and cultures that rule with an iron fist. Unfortunately, where toxic masculinity is the order of the day!
Why: Our increasing accessibility to information through various digital platforms has been the vehicle for this. It has had enormous influence in exposing most communities to healthier ideologies on how to raise the boy child. This not only creates a ‘new normal’ but also promotes a heightened level of freedom through expression.
Future: The traditional perceptions of what masculinity might transform into normalising gender fluidity. Especially with the growing influence spearheaded by the LGBTQ community. Their mere existence and tenacious ability to embrace who they are might continue to liberate others.
