You Can’t say that!

this is something that really bugs me, like, i get it everyone has different sensibilities, but i think people should be able to say whatever they please, no matter how insensitive or clueless it may be. there’s a tl;dr at the bottom also.

Why you may ask? well i’ve got a couple of reasons for this so bare with me a bit.

First is the differing sensibilities to you calling someone the nword 50 times may be acceptable to others it may not be (And yes before you ask i’m in the latter category). Because of this while i think it is acceptable to ask people to not use such language, i also think it’s not our (or your) job to police language because frankly as i said what’s offensive to you may not be to someone else. focus on you and yours before they and them you dig?

Second is i think it helps us learn about other people, do they use that language because they’re actually racist/homophobic/whatever you think they may be? are they just screwing with you? are they unaware of the word’s history? there are so many reasons why someone may chose certain words over others, and there are infinitely more reasons why they may be coshing them at that time, i think instead of getting angry at someone because they said a “naughty word” we should just ask them why, you might even learn something (even if it’s just a weird conspiracy about glow in the dark cia attack helicopters that secretly run the world health organization) 

Lastly context context context, the thing i hate about most modern sites attempting to censor language is the bot/mod doesn’t normally care about context. example; Ted calls Billybobjo a little inbred bitch because he’s briglocking him on Sea of Thieves for no reason, billybobjo gets offended (or pretends to be offended) and reports him to TOS on whatever platform lets go with xbox here as they can be particularly finicky in light of the ancient times of MW2. Xbox then mutes/suspends ted because the lack of context and lack of care of context leads to mutes and bans that are unnecessary because frankly, people get mad, people say dumb things after being provoked, and then it gets taken out of context where in the context it can be said a “yeah he shouldn’t say that but, frankly who cares he was angry just tell him to watch it.”

So what should be done i hear asked by the disembodied ghosts haunting me? frankly? nothing, one off messages/one off chains of messages can sting a little sure but frankly, who gives a flying rats skeleton? As i said above people get mad, and sometimes they say dumb things, if someone gets mad at you for stealing the heavy ammo in d2 competitive and proceeds to yell at you for the match, who cares? if they’re really that bad, block them, the only reason you should be reporting people is if they’re A. legitimately trying to threaten you (We all remember the kids who could back trace the server but nothing else so they’d say you’re in say washington when you’re really in alaska) or B. are creating dozens of alt accs to try and “Get back at you.” and even then, honestly, most of these people can’t do anything besides puff hot air so why bother? if anything it’s a perfect opportunity to bait them into saying more and more outrageous things and cap up some delicious funny as hell screenshots for you and your friends to laugh at.

Tl;dr, lighten up people, dont take every “i screwed your mom” or “you’re a little bitch” as a personal attack, you just might enjoy yourself like we did back in the ancient abyss that was early CoD lobbies, back when frankly anything went and we just rolled with it.
