I've been thinking about the second end credit scene a lot, and I haven't seen very many people theorise about this so I want to say: I don't think Sam and Bucky are fighting at all. I don't think they've fallen out, or disagreed at all (or I hope not).

At the start of Thunderbolts*, we see Bucky actively working against Valentina undercover with his fellow Congressmen. He's not a particularly strong liar, and he's an even worse actor when asked about the issue by the Press.

And where do we see that stuttering Bucky again? In the end credit scene when Yelena asks him how his conversation with Sam Wilson went - he completely avoids eye contact, and he shuffles in his seat.

I really doubt Bucky Barnes would sit back and allow Valentina to get away with claiming to have created the "new Avengers" after everything she did. He probably explained everything to Sam, and they're doing what they can to work together to fight against her power and her influence.

It would be exceptionally out of character for Bucky to just ... sit back and allow it.

I've been seeing a lot of people likening them to Tony and Steve in Civil War, but that would mean they weren't on the same side. And Bucky doesn't agree with Valentina, so why would he not agree with what Sam is doing? He never planned on being a member of the Thunderbolts*, and although he has grown to like his team like a family, he still wouldn't want Valentina having all the glory. He's had enough of working for other people and doing their dirty work for no credit.

And Sam gets that too. They're absolutely not fighting on this - they're working together like they always do.

So, that's the headcanon I'm working with. This is what I hope really happened. Sam publicly suing the Thunderbolts* while Bucky works on breaking Valentina's control from the inside makes sense in my head.

I understand that Sam would be upset about the whole thing, but so would Bucky.

This story idea has been in my head for 4 years, and I finally did something with it... I'm no writer, but here is a summary..

The serum that hydra gave bucky had some side effects (werewolf moment). When sam and bucky get together, bucky tries as hard as possible for sam not to find out. Sure, he can excuse being the winter soldier he didn't have control, but being a literal beast is something else entirely. All ends up in a situation where either bucky watches sam die or changes to save him.

There is also something so perfect about both of them being in danger, and all they can think about is the other...

Listen I have been thinking this for a whole month since I watch cap4 and here it is:Bucky's I LOVE YOU to Sam is NOT confession of love. It's habit. He must have used this three words as period in their conversations. He says that to Sam every time they split.

And the reason why he can throw that out so naturally is that Sam had been saying I love you to him millions of times before. He learned that from Sam. Sam has domesticated him with love patience and care.

They had been part of each other. I stand by that.

my initial reaction was that obviously Bucky has told Sam he loves him before; he drops it so easily, and Sam just gives that little nod, like Bucky is saying something he already knows well. but thinking over it... Bucky does strike me as being unsocialized and/or insane enough that maybe he WOULD think that "watching as your friend and protegee undergoes lifesaving surgery for an injury you blame yourself for" is an appropriate occasion to tell your man you love him for the first time. could go either way, really.
