Net Neutrality
So, one of my Senators - Thom Tillis - just responded to one of my e-mails regarding my concerns for Net Neutrality.
Here’s what he had to say:
“As you may know, newly appointed FCC Chairman Pai released a plan to overturn the FCC’s 2015 mandates. On December 14, 2017, the FCC voted 3-2 to overturn these mandates. I am supportive of this vote and believe the actions by the FCC will bring new innovation and broadband investments.“
Translation: ‘I don’t give a fuck about what you or anyone else wants - I support Ajit Pai because this will put money in my pocket also.’
Sorry, I’m just a little disheartened about this. idk
EDIT - I emailed him THIS back:
“Hi, you responded to one of my previous e-mails regarding my concerns for Net neutrality and something that you said struck me as odd.
Okay, so - you support people who want to steal money from the poor for a service that was labeled as a HUMAN RIGHT.
"Due to the lack of access and suppressive tactics by certain governments, the United Nations (U.N.) has declared that “online freedom” is a "human right,” and one that must be protected. This was in the form of resolution A/HRC/32/L.20. In July 2016 the U.N. issued a declaration, cementing this view.“
Besides, you’re a senator - you’re supposed to represent the people - correct? Which means if enough of us contact you (which considering 85% of Americans are AGAINST Ajit Pai means that MANY individuals have contacted you) then it doesn’t matter how you feel on the issue - because you’re supposed to use your voice for ALL of us.
Or is it just that YOU will profit from the lower class losing money and internet access? Is that why you don’t care what we have to say? Ajit Pai openly MOCKED everyone’s calls and e-mails that were defending Net Neutrality! Do you understand that severity?
America is slowly spiraling into dictatorship - and one of the firsts steps is to take away Human Rights, Freedom of Speech, and the ability to find true information - all of which applies to the internet. Think about what you’re doing.
Listen to the people, not your wallet.”

Hey so friendly reminder about voting and elections that I haven’t seen going around yet but is SUPER IMPORTANT.
Watch what you wear and say while you’re waiting in line for the voting booth/at the polls. It is against federal law to do anything that might be considered campaigning once you’re there, and since we know that voter suppression is the name of the game this election, there will be people looking for ANY reason to remove you from the polling place. And they will nitpick. You have a shirt with a artistic picture of donkey on it? You’re visibly supporting the Democrats, you’re disqualified from voting. Want to wear a Black Lives Matter shirt? Not there you don’t. They’ll call it intimidation and kick you out. Pins, buttons, stickers, none of it. Wear the most bland, plain clothes you can imagine.
And then keep your mouth shut. Even the slightest hint of discussion about which candidate you’re voting for can get used against you. Don’t assume the people around you are safe to discuss it with. You might be overheard. There WILL people watching for these things, hoping to get rid of anyone they can. Voter suppression isn’t just about making registration impossible. It happens at the polling stations too. Be smart, be bland, be quiet, and make sure your vote gets in.
Also- and I have seen this mentioned but it bears repeating- DO NOT TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR BALLOT. EVER. It’ll also disqualify your vote. Take a selfie when you’re out of their with your fun little sticker.

It’s Not Too Late to Make 2020 Count
The 2020 U.S. election is right around the corner. Tuesday, November 3, is the last day to cast your ballot. We’re almost at the end of this seemingly endless election cycle–but don’t break out the bath bombs yet. There’s still work to do, like making sure you cast a vote that counts. Here’s some info that’ll help you do just that:
Who should you vote for? Well, that’s up to you. We’re not here to tell you how to live your life, just to make living it a little easier. Find out here where the presidential candidates stand on key issues like climate change, healthcare, and racial justice. Sure, the presidency gets the top billing, but those smaller, local elections affect you as well. Use this state-specific ballot guide to help you fill out your entire ballot.
It’s not too late to vote early. In some states, the early voting period ends Saturday, October 31, aka Halloween. Like this election cycle wasn’t scary enough. Learn more about your state’s early voting deadlines here. If you still haven’t registered to vote, @whenweallvote makes it easy to explore all of your state’s voter registration deadlines in one place. Find your polling place ahead of time. Waiting until Election Day to look up your polling station is like waiting until the day of the show to buy tickets to a MCR reunion tour. It’s not a good idea.
If you voted by mail, your job isn’t over. To confirm your absentee ballot has been accepted by your state’s board of elections, use @resistbot for status updates. No, that’s not a text from your crush: it’s Resistbot! Unless Resistbot is your crush…in which case, maybe you should just check the status of your ballot online.
There’s something in the air
If you consider yourself anywhere from barely to extremely online, you’ve been bombarded with misinformation—and you might not even know it. At Tumblr, you control the conversation. As a result, we need you to help us shut down the spread of misinformation.
With one of the most contentious elections in U.S. history only days away, we’re asking all users to be watchful of what you see and read online. Use our Election Integrity Guidelines to help you identify and avoid sharing potentially harmful information. To combat misinformation within the Tumblr community, we’re also asking users to read more about media literacy and report misinformation or abuse of any kind right here.
Good luck out there, Tumblr. Don’t forget to #Make2020Count.

Nothing’s going to get in ANYWAY better if you just sit back and not vote. Democracy and systemic rights in America is of great concern. Go get your vote and tell others to vote too. We’re all in this mess together.
My advice: - Vote by mail and submit your ballot to an official office or official ballot drop-off, be sure to check where to submit it if you don’t want to deal with the USPS - If you’ve been denied a mail-in ballot, go to the polls as early as you can. Be sure to check the early voting dates or your timeframes when it’s possible to vote - Don’t forget to keep yourself and others safe by wearing a mask outside - Keep yourself and others informed with what’s going on. Don’t be that guy and spread misinformation about it.

Favorite Trend of the 2010′s: Experimental/Stylized CG Animation
I know this has been pointed out and talked about ad nauseam, especially on Twitter but it’s worth noticing how experimental CG was this decade. Whether it’s adapting aspects/techniques of 2D like coloring, smear frames, exaggeration, etc. Or translating heavily stylized characters in the 3rd dimension while still keeping said stylization. And it seems this trend is looking to continue into the 2020′s.

No dialogue or what’s the point of undercutting the original’s impressionism?

If you want to know my personal thoughts on the film. I felt it had potential but not quite executed in the ways I was expecting. The 1920′s flooded Paris aesthetic and art design I really enjoyed, I wished it was instead a movie focused on the monster and singer (the first half of Shape of Water but a musical?) than having the bumbling less interesting friends as the main central characters. It felt like the main focus was elsewhere while it was also trying to go for an ensemble approach.

So back when this blog was consistently active, I had a week thread planned for A Monster in Paris, a French musical fantasy made in the early 2010′s. No post on Tumblr as far as I’ve seen has mentioned the news concerning this film’s production in which its writer-director Bibo Bergeron was recently charged for sexual abuse and resurfaced allegations that were kept hidden after the film’s completion.
Bibo Bergeron, recently a teacher in MoPA in France, was a French feature co-director at Dreamworks on The Road to El Dorado and Shark Tale - El Dorado going thru multiple directors during production. Years later he left the studio and returned to France to develop and seek financing for A Monster in Paris. The allegations on Monster’s production concern frequent harassment and a rape incident with a staff member (kept anonymous at this time). UPDATE: A public prosecutor has dated the incident back as early as 2007 before Monster’s production. Artists and staff were threatened of blacklisting from the animation industry if information reached the press. A suicide is attributed to what happened.
A Monster in Paris is also produced and financed by popular director Luc Besson, of Leon and The Fifth Element, who Luc himself also has allegations of sexual assault. It is unknown if his production company EuropaCorp had involvement in keeping the Monster in Paris allegations quiet for almost ten years.
While it should not diminish the efforts of the artists/staff who designed & animated their vision, it is a shame to have a fascinating film forever tainted by the main creative people responsible for its creation.
