I like to draw the 1st Line of the Light Numbers and the 4th Line of the Cossack Numbers because of their sweet family dynamic. The Wily Numbers doesn't have a clear family dynamic, but the portrayals I've seen of the Thirds are very cute. (Although this is only half of the Thirds.) (And I like to draw Magnet/Top/Snake because of their traffic light color schemes alone. The same logic applies to why I draw so much vegetables.)

...? I initially planned to draw something horror-ish, but after seeing all the pastries and strawberries, I couldn't help but make it lighthearted.

Giving up early I think about the 9th game too much, so I have a tendency to avoid drawing them during actual illustration because I subconsciously think I draw the 9th numbers too much. But in the end, I still like drawing them, so I drew them. That being said, my main reason for drawing these two specifically is because their color schemes reminds of a sunflower. (ㅇㅅㅇ❀)

The story of the 9th Rockman game was short and simple, but the idea behind it was always so peculiar to me. To recap, there is now a 4th law of robotic which gives them expiration date - this encourages scientists to create newer and more efficient model while saving energy and resources from maintaining old and outdated ones. However, it proves to be a problem because the robots in Rockman have "souls" akin to that of a human, which causes them to rebel and bring destruction humanity.

This is a story that touches on ethnics and certain area of philosophy, but particularly, I'm interested in how those elements affects the robots' psychology. In the game, after defeating 8 robot masters, you would get a cutscene showing how Wily manipulated them into joining his side and how he eventually reprogram them to be destructive. However, the robots still wanted to be of use to the humans until the end:

Dr. Wily: "Just because you reached some arbitrary expiration date doesn't mean you should be scrapped! You're all still quite useful! You have a right to live! I'm going to help you. Together we'll show the world how useful you all still can be!" Robot: "Hmm… perhaps you're right. We still want to be of use to people. Can you repair us?"

All in all, their usefulness dictates whether they deserved to live or not. Before I made this post, I thought Dr Wily was going to talk about how they shouldn't be scrapped because they have souls, but after rereading the script, I realized he just reverted back to talking about their usefulness. The robots don't seem to mind at all. It is as if they were programmed to think of way, or at least were conditioned to think that way due to their environment. If I, a human, were to be born along side my peers then before I even reach old age, I was suddenly told "The new is generation is better than you at art, so you need to be executed", then I would most likely lose all of my reasons and start going berserk as well. This is what happened in Hitoshi Ariga's manga: The 4th law get administered as usual, Dr Wily said the same thing, but he didn't reprogram them or manipulate them, he only offered to get rid of their expiration date. In the end, it was up to the robot themselves to decide whether they would revolt or not (and all of them did).

Hitoshi Ariga's interpretation is more believable than it is in the game, but it's hard for me to believe that all 100% of them would turn from obedient robots to war machines just like that. Once again, If I was suddenly told that my life was cut short because someone was better, I would be mad, but that is with the assumption that I am a human. The 9th numbers and robots, even though they have emotion and "souls" similar to that of a human, they are not human; It is similar to comparing the life of a dog and a cat. Of course, we haven't discovered any species that have a level of intelligence and emotional capability similar to human, so it is impossible to tell, but I think there would be a noticeable amount of conflict that comes from being a robot (a species that is meant to die and be improved upon) that has a human mind (a species that wants a fulfilling life).

Assuming there was a robot who wanted to live (as in Hitoshi Ariga's interpretation), but also believe that their life was taken for granted (as in the game version), there would a difficult character arc whether they were mind controlled by Dr Wily or not. Let's say it is Hitoshi Ariga's version where the robots act on their own, this character would follow the other 9th numbers in the revolution to get rid of the 4th law, but I doubt they would contribute that much because they feel indebted to the humans. They are incapable of helping those around them in the revolution, but at the same time they aren't willing to turn themselves in and end their life quickly. This also leads to another problem. Let's say they couldn't care less whether they die or not, but if they are close to the other 9th numbers, it would be a problem if they just gave in because that would mean their friend/sibling could potential die because of their listlessness. If there was a dilemma like that, it's either you lose yourself and join your siblings in exterminating human, or you run away from both the 9th numbers and the human and delay the inevitable.

Sleepover

I'm a bit occupied this week so I drew something simple. Lately I've been seeing alot of "POV you fell asleep first at the sleep over" meme, and I thought about how these robot masters could perform those strategy for real. Too bad, Elec man works so much he's out of the loop.

Band Meetup I drew this one without a clear direction on what I wanted the colours to look like. Because of this, I spent hours just making different variations and building on top of the rendering before that. This was a variation I made early on, meaning the time I spent afterward was disregarded. Before I knew it, it was already the last day of the week. In truth, if I had more time, I would have just scrapped this drawing and make a new one from scratch ^^;, but I've learnt a lot about when to priotize logic and theory or my guts and just go with the flow. Although this may not have been the best outcome, I'll try my best and use this as an experience to do even better in the future. (*бωб)7

Harmless Hijacking...? When I stroll around the street, everyone seems a bit unhappy doing their day-to-day activities, so I like to imagine things to be a bit happier and just enjoy the moment.

Morning preparations I recently visited a pagoda and wanted to draw something close to nature. There were also a lot of food and refreshment stalls there, but I forgot to bring my wallet. In the end, I could only sit with my friends (who also had no money) and wait until everyone else in the crew finishes their food. Consider this drawing a way to cope. ^^;

Untitled I was supposed to finish and post this drawing on Monday, but I was suddenly greeted by my teacher's feedback on my short film, and a final submission due the same week. Needless to say, I'm glad I started working early on this week's drawing <(¯︶¯)>

Shoot me straight through my heart! This one's short and simple. I was playing some darts the other day and suddenly thought about how unfairly a lot of the bosses in X6 were treated before they went maverick. It's not "slice of life" for the character, but I did get the inspiration from a slice of my life, so does it still count? ^^;

Robot Mahjong! Time Man and Elec Man seems to dislike each other in powered up, but I wonder if they'd still hate each other in Ariga's interpretation since that Elec Man isn't as condescending as his ingame counterpart.

Hiatus over!

I wasn't keeping track of how long I gone away, sorry if I took longer than expected. As of now, the draft submission for my short film has been submitted. I most likely will have to animate some more once I receive the feedbacks, but I think I'd have enough time for animating and posting art weekly at the same time now that finals are done..ヽ(๏∀๏ )ﾉ Even after 2-3 months of not making a single illustration, I still have no new message I want to convey through my drawings, so I think I'll just settle with drawing slice of life content for now. Lately, I've been getting into playing mahjong, so the drawing I'm about to post will be exactly just that. <(¯︶¯)>

Hiatus

My Media Studies class is about to assign an Assessment Task where we would to make an animated short film. I want to dedicate my time to make the short film as polished as possible, so I hope you'll understand. I'll go back to posting weekly in about 2 months from now. Thank you!

The quality of the drawings for this week ended being way too simple compared to the past ^^;. This is my second attempt at drawing more character-focused drawings. and There are very little ridges for me to render and trick people into thinking it's more complicated than it actually is. This time, I deliberately tried to make the character expression easy to see. I think it's easy for the photographer to express to other people what he finds beautiful. But no matter how good he is at photography, he still can't capture the admiration the subject has for him.

Although the weathers are very cold right now, but how about the beach? ^^; I've noticed that drawings scenery over and over again feels repetitive, so I'm trying to try change the content of my pictures to more character-focused, portrait oriented drawings for a while. I hope you like it!
