Main series pokemon isn't an enjoyable experience for me as well but I found a lot of other formats or fan games that scratch the itch nicely
Pokerogue and Emerald Rogue are the two 'what if rouguelite' options and both are a good time. Pokerogue is only battling with unique item mechanics whereas Emerald Rogue is more similar to the base games but with random mons, battle prep areas, and town building.
I've dipped my toes into competition but I find the current Reg I metagame of Calyrex and your favourite dracobike a little bland. Small tournaments, especially those without legendary mons, have been great however!
Rom hacks like Renegade Platinum have been excellent to play through as well, but they adhere more to classic pokemon conventions than other fan games
The Mystery Dungeon series is also a surprisingly fun time even as someone who didn't touch them when I was younger, definitely worth a look if you haven't tried them before.
kinda funny how actually playing the pokemon games completely killed my interest in the series forever
