The way I started reading this thinking it was New Girl quotes…

this from the guy who wrote the sting pain index, a scale he constructed after letting himself be stung by insects

Floating face down in a blank word document file, while not physically possible, is nevertheless a tangible authorial state.

If it keeps you from killing yourself it's not stupid. This applies to anything btw.

I actually do feel like the "unemployed friend on a Tuesday" meme actually helps de-stigmatize unemployment because it frequently affirms that when you don't have a job you're more likely to be getting up to some weird shit rather than just lazing around. But I also feel like the unemployed friend is frequently up to some random shit because there's a whole pile of miscellaneous life tasks that full-time employment keeps people from. The unemployed friend is helping their cousin move, or babysitting, or checking in with a neighbor with mobility issues. The unemployed friend is a walking thesis on the inflexibility of our current labor landscape and just how much work exists outside of work.

you're not turning your fandom hobby into a job are you? giving yourself deadlines and quotas that you have to meet? focusing on the numbers instead of your enjoyment of the act of creation?

my neurodivergent shame and anxiety, sighing dramatically with tears in its eyes: i wish there was a way to definitively confirm that i was loved and that i mattered
other people, out loud, to me where i can see/hear/read/perceive them clearly: we love you and you matter!
my neurodivergent shame and anxiety, slinking immediately to the metaphorical edge of a steep cliffside: oh! :) that's nice! :) okay well time for me to die then i guess! :) :) :)
my medicated & regulated frontal cortex, with equal parts empathy and exasperation: hey, so, as i've been reminding you every hour for the past month of burnout/meltdown, you're actually fine and safe now! you don't actually want to die-- you are having escapist fantasies of running away from community and intimacy because you've never felt safe to be fully yourself since childhood! and so we have to grit our teeth and endure the hell of accepting love from others because it's the only way to live a rich, rewarding life of purpose and connection and joy! come in from the cliffside bestie, let's get you some sleep!
