How to Get Familiar with IIT JEE Exam Pattern?
To get admission into prestigious engineering colleges in India, Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is a common exam for IIT aspirants. The most often asked question among engineering aspirants is ‘how to prepare for IIT JEE’. JEE consists of multiple choice questions testing the knowledge of applicants for various engineering disciplines. JEE is organized at two levels- JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Only those students who qualify JEE Main exam can take JEE Advanced. Score of JEE Main is the ticket to NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and other reputed engineering colleges while JEE Advanced is the ticket to IITs. Thorough preparation is the key to ace JEE with flying colours.
Structure of JEE Exam
Duration of JEE Main exam is 3 hours comprising of 90 multiple choice questions. This exam has three sections: Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. Each section is of 30 questions with equal weightage. For each correct answer, four marks are awarded while for each incorrect answer, one mark is deducted. No negative or positive marks for any unanswered question.
Structure of JEE Advanced is different than main exam. However, the subjects covered are the same: Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. Advanced exam is set into two papers of three hour duration. Both papers of advanced exam are divided into three sections.
Both the papers in JEE Advanced consists of single correct answered multiple choice questions, multiple correct answered multiple choice questions and the types of questions for which candidates have to answer themselves.
Know the Topics Covered in Exam
Same subjects are covered in both the examination but the topics and difficulty level of questions vary for both. For better insights about the topics, check with the official test syllabi from official website resources.
Use Official Resources
The key to ace JEE is to do the test itself. Mock tests for JEE are available on its official website. These mock tests explain the exact structure, format and content for JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Completing mock tests gives the experience of exam and helps to manage the time.
Practice Previous Year Question Papers
Practicing previous year question papers is an important resource to crack JEE exam for engineering aspirants. As JEE is the new pattern which was introduced in 2013 (formerly known as IIT-JEE), question papers are available 2014 onwards. Since the test is offered multiple times a year, eight question papers are available.
Stay Updated with Official Bulletins
JEE has been changed over the years. Tests are rescheduled, results are re-interpreted and the syllabus is revised. To keep up the pace, stay updated with the official bulletins. Recent bulletin containing important information on eligibility, test schedule and other relevant information can be found on official website of JEE.
Third Party Resources
Though official website of JEE is the most authenticate source of preparation material but students can find sample questions, practice tests and other material on other websites as well. There are a large number of third parties, so, it is advised to find the legitimate and reliable resources.

Maharashtra is a Tune To Sing Together -Happy Maharashtra Day
May 1, 2017: Travelling and residing in different states of India infused a fondness in me to be acquainted with diverse cultures and heritage. The day I landed in Mumbai is still an alive reminiscence. Marathi culture, language, attires, festivals and warmth of natives are few things that enthralled me the most. The gratified yet competitive spirits were greeting each other and all I could feel at that moment was its mystical ambience caressing my dreams.
When I completed my graduation from IIT Delhi in 1997, I had many options to bet on; to seize a job offer, to pursue the dream of my father to ace civil services or to take a risk at my own. The dilemma daunted me for many days until I had a dream in which a printer was consistently releasing print outs of Lord Ganpati. I considered it as a divine way of inferring me to hit Mumbai and instigate Pace IIT & Medical.

I fondly call Maharashtra my ‘Second Motherland’ now. This label has been derived from the teachings of Lord Krishna. He had two mothers- Devaki, the biological mother and Yashoda, the foster mother. It affirmed me to believe that there can be two motherlands, one where you are born and second where you are nurtured. I was born in Uttar Pradesh while fostered in Maharashtra. Maharashtra armed me with the opportunities to learn, to gain and to achieve what I dreamt of. I am forever indebted to this state for showering so much affection.
On this Maharashtra Day, I express my sincere gratitude and love to this state.
‘Jai Maharashtra, Jai Hind.’
