beach near emajagua with not many people, kind of wavy.
we saw a frenchy puppy and the dogs were playing :) a tiny and a huge.
nice rocks and shady area like a half cave half stage

Culebra
(small island, 45 minute ferry ride off the coast of the big island of Puerto Rico)
Water: very calm, peaceful, natural pools. flamenco beach, playa larga, playa tamarindo pictured above
Land: dry, very beautiful, animals like lizards, pelicans, turtles, cacti
Activities: coral reefs great for snorkeling, swimming, exploring
What Makes this Spot Unique: this island is very small and fun to explore, many people rent golf carts, great for a day trip
Parking: all over the island (renting a jeep is recommended for rough terrain)

Bosque Seco de Guanica
Water: this is a dry forest, but you can see the ocean in the distance
Land: full of trees, cactus, lots of mosquitos
Activities: hiking
What Makes this Spot Unique: in this forest is the oldest tree in puerto rico (pictured above), it’s called a guayacán and it’s over 1,000 years old

Reserva Natural de la Laguna Tortuguero (Manatí)
Water: this beach has rocky areas, but you can find spots in the water where the bottom is sand, not rocks. there are natural pools where the water is a little calmer between rocks, but you have to find them
Land: rocky, sandy, little caves, crabs
Activites: rock climbing, swimming, lots of shade, there is a path through the palm trees with a semi-intact board walk
What Makes this Spot Unique: to get to this beach you need to do a 15 minute easy hike. This spot is also popular for mountain bikers and has trails for bikes
Parking: just off the main road there is a dirt parking lot at the entrance to the hiking path

Cayo Icacos
Water: super clear, calm, beautiful aquamarine blue, ocean floor is mostly sandy and shallow
Land: brown and white sand, lots of shells, not too much shade
Activities: some people go as organized tour groups and park catamaran boats off the coast and hang out, also great for snorkeling
What Makes this Spot Unique: this is a separate island from the main island of Puerto Rico and you take a water taxi to get there (a motorboat, we paid $20 per person) from Fajardo, the ride is about 15 minutes and picks you back up later in the day

Luquillo
Water: calm, hardly any waves, pretty clear, ocean floor mostly sandy
Land: big long areas of white/brown sand, super flat, lots of palm trees and a few bohíos built from palm fronds
Activities: fishing, jet skiing
What Makes this Spot Unique: this beach is very wide and open, the sky feels super big over here, lots of space, the sand on the beach very slightly and slowly inclines

Activities: rocks to climb, fishing, snorkeling
What Makes this Spot Unique: near a few big hotels, coast is semi-circle shaped, with rocks surrounding

Hacienda La Esperanza (Manatí)
Water: calm, clear
Land: some patches of black sand
Activities: snorkeling, lots of crabs under the trees
What Makes this Spot Unique: it is now part of a protected nature reserve, but originally the land was used as a sugar plantation
Parking: on grass, (walk down a dirt path through the woods to get to the beach, there's multiple spots that you can park near the water)

Water: calm, good for swimming
Land: lots of open space for hanging out
Activities: rocks to swim to and climb on
What Makes this Spot Unique: great for families, this is a big beach with a lot of space, the shape of the rocks is unique

Water: usually pretty rough
Land: full of people, fun to walk down the beach, lots of crabs
Activities: better for surfing than swimming
What Makes this Spot Unique: located in very big tourist area, many hotels on the waterfront, lots of families and vacationers
