Tired Tires and New Wine Skins
Tired Tires and
Sunday afternoon I loaded my bike up ready to head for the mountains.  As I was putting the bike on my rack I took a quick peek at my tires.  I knew they were getting a bit worn and in fact, my friend was picking up a new set that very weekend. However, upon inspection I realized that they were in even worst condition than I first thought.  Not only was the tread very worn, but a layer of rubber…

Starting Over & Saddle Height
Starting Over & Saddle Height
It’s been a long time coming, but I finally got back in the saddle! After two hand surgeries, I am finally able to ride without my hands and arms going numb. There is no more stopping to stretch every half mile . . . no more fear of breaking my arm or hand, and a lot more riding. I am out of shape, no surprise to myself, but it feels good to be back in the saddle. All loaded up for the first…

Finding Joy in the Little Things
Finding Joy in the Little Things
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” – James 1:17 I know God is a good God. He is a good father. Good fathers know how to give good gifts to His children. The problem is that I often close off my heart to what God wants to give to me. Like Eve in the garden after eating the…

Looking Forward
Tumblr media
It’s National Bike Month.  The weather is beautiful and sunshine and cooler temperatures make it the perfect time to jump on your bike and go for a ride.
I have a new bike sitting in the garage, cleaned up and ready to go, but I can’t get on it and ride.  Well, not longer than a few minutes.  Various health issues have made it physically impossible to ride right now.
I should have my bike rack on…

Keeping the Main Thing the Main Thing
First 30 Mile Ride
Tumblr media
Sunday’s ride started out pretty much like any other, but with a slight tailwind which made the outbound trip towards Adams, Oregon slightly quicker and easier than usual.  I started out fully prepared with the intention of taking a long ride – snacks, lots of water, my phone, and all the other necessities filled my saddle bag.
About half way between my house and Adams, I saw my first doe of the…

Riding the Tailwind
Tumblr media
Some days it is just me and the road.  Yesterday was one of those days.  Desperate to get a ride in, despite the wind, I jumped on my bike.  Oh what a pleasant surprise it was to realize I had a tailwind and that it was on the ascent portion of my ride. Of course that meant that my return trip would take a bit longer, but still, it was a small price to pay for a quick ride.  And quick ride it…

What the Mind Thinks
After a week of bad weather, I finally got out for a ride yesterday. I only intended to make it a short ride, but each mile I kept saying one more mile, just one more mile. The
one more mile added up to 22 miles and for the first time since my surgery I road all the way to the nearby town of Adams and back.
In my mind this should have been an easy trip.  Prior to injuries and weight gain, it was…

Pamela's Story
It’s no secret among people that know me that I have had issues with my weight since as long as I can remember.  About ten years ago I came to the end of my rope and tried something I had never done before.  I joined a gym, began working with a trainer, and started watching the things I ate.
The results were stunning. In approximately 2 years I had lost over 90 pounds, all without pills, surgery,…

Back in the Saddle
My Bike
A few weeks ago I tried to get on my bicycle. I say “try” because it was an experiment in futility. The weather was perfect, I was in the gym looking at the sunny blue sky and I thought, “this is ridiculous! I should be outside enjoying the nice weather.” After being shut in by grey and cloudy skies, the warm sunshine was quite inviting! So what did I do? I grabbed my gear and hurried…

A Story to Tell
A Story to Tell
I have a story to tell. Some days the story had drama. Other days the story is monotonous. But the story is always real. The story is about living a remarkable and astounding life while experiencing the ordinary.
Pedals & Ponderings is a place where my words tell a story.  It is the story of my struggles and victories. It is the story of my adventures and life. It is a story about finding pearls…

Finished this up tonight. I am thinking of adding glitter to the bow. Yes or no?

Parting Words
Tumblr media
My chest tightened and my heart raced as an unfamiliar feeling swept over me.  Light headed, perspiring, and almost nauseated, I couldn’t get out of the building quick enough.  I hurried to my vehicle, turned on the air and tried to breathe.  I was in full-blown panic attack.
Hours earlier, it all started with an exchange of words that should not have been shared.  Text messaging added to the…

It's All About Enjoying The Ride
It’s All About Enjoying The Ride
Tumblr media
I haven’t posted much lately, mostly because I am bored with my cycling.
It’s not the ride itself that bores me.  I love the ride.  It’s the destination.  There is no destination.
I have road these routes over and over, until I know each curve by heart.  I know each house, each fence line, and the animals that graze in the fields.  I know where I need to increase my speed to get a run at the…
