Wild Life Crime: Animal Traffic
Tumblr media
Wild Life Day is an organization (Linked Below), bringing all types of forces together in an attempt to put a stop to Wild Life Crimes. They bring in everyone from the public to Interpol and Customs! World Wild Life Day is set on March 3rd, 2015, and is observed by all UN member states. The goal is to recognize the CITES treaty and to raise awareness! They also desire to end endangered species due to ILLEGAL trade and trafficking.

Below is a link to the Wild Aid organization! Their mission is to protect and put an end to ILLEGAL animal trade through public awareness, campaigns and comprehensive marine protection!

Obama signed an executive order on July 1, 2014 which created easier ways to work against animal trafficking and to also help other governments to build the capacity to stop it in their countries as well.
The rate of animal trafficking doubled in 2007, creating more endangered species!
Wild life trafficking is an organized crime network with funds helping to enable other criminal activity and wild life crimes.
Ivory is one of the major trafficked "goods"
Example: Rhino horns are worth twice their weight in gold due to the material inside of them, sometimes used for medicine.

Finally, because of their endangered species status, their breeding programs differ from most animals and are held in zoos or other wildlife preservatives. Most Pandas in captivity are bred from artificial insemination.
Giant Pandas Conservation Status:
-Giant Pandas have been on the endangered species list since 1986. -Biodiversity along with loss of habitat is the leading cause of the demise.

Bao Bao's Panda Life
My animal is a Giant Panda from Washington D.C's National Zoo. It is currently November 10, 2014. My pandas are off camera at the moment because it is 9:15 pm and they are off sleeping, off sight of the webcam. Instead here is a screenshot of a panda, Bao Bao being born, which is a huge accomplishment because they are an endangered species.
Facts about Pandas:
Bao Bao was 4 ounces when she was born, and 11 months later she weighed 40 pounds. What panda-monium!
"Bao Bao" means treasure in Chinese languge.
Bao Bao lives in a climate controlled shed, consuming 40 pounds of bamboo per day.
Bao Bao is a result of artificial insemination.
Bao Bao will be sent to China when she turns four years old.
