Ode to Australia. Red 🔴 and Blue 🔵 These are probably the colours i would associate Australia with. 🇭🇲 Everything turns red, after you cross Australia: your clothes, your motorcycle and even your skin. Everything turns blue, once you dip yourself in its pristine waters. The country is so vast that some of its farms are bigger that Belgium. It's so desert that 92% of territory is still uninhabited. Australia is a land of ancient secrets, since its landmass hasn't changed since the beginning on our planet. Second attempt at night photography was slightly more successful than the previous one. "Magna facit qui viriliter agit". 😌 It doesn't seem that this bike has been around half of this planet! 🙉🌎 Appearances can be deceiving, though. Bronte's lighter and more city-like look, makes it easier to stroll around the neighborhood. But, with 170000km on the odometer, this not so youngish beast still craves for adventure! Few upgrades and less accessories, trimmed its weight down back to 208kg. When i started my RTW trip, back in Australia, I wasn't much into sharing my journey on instagram. I was posting maybe one picture every once in a while. **************** It was 2015 and it was before influencers and instafame kicked in. Back then, instagram had a squared layout and had no stories. There was really no need of posting all your life online, unless you really wanted to. Bloggers and Vloggers were hip then, but clearly i had no time to waste in doing neither of those activities. It seems I'm talking about decades ago but, in reality, it was just 4 years ago. **************** So, it turns out that I still documented a lot of stuff on my cellphone and never really shared these media files with anybody... Thus, here you go: I am going to share a bit of the unseen footage from my adventure back in Australia and down in South America. **************** So weird, to look back and see the changes I've been through and all the adventures, that eventually shaped who I am today. Sorting through the thousands of pictures I collected along these years, is a hell of a job, but also an immeasurable pleasure. Some of these moments will stay with me forever, and i will always be proud of. This particular one is one of my favourites, because of the colours, its meaning for me and because it's a very unique place on our planet: the Uyuni Salt flat. Sitting at 3600m altitude, it covers a surface of 10000km^2 and it can reach 10m in dept. It is completely made of salt. As the remembrance of my journey slowly sinks in, I can't avoid to count... The kilometers, the countries i crossed, the flat tyres, the crashes, the people i met, the incredible experiences I collected along the way... _____________ 170000km 5 notebooks 4 years 3 continents 2 flights home 1 motorcycle 0 mechanical issues _____________________________ 🇭🇲👉🇮🇹 Started in Sydney, Australia, in february 2015 and completed its full loop in october of the same year. Flew back to Italy but sent the bike, by cargo ship, to Valparaiso, Chile; flew to Santiago and started riding again in august 2016 from there. Completed my south american journey in December 2017. From Colombia I flew back to Italy to surprise my family for Christmas. Shipped myself and the bike by plane from Bogotà to Panama and started riding north toward Alaska, which i reached only in september 2018. From Anchorage, AK, I rode across Canada and then back down to Florida, USA, and across the continent again. I reached California and rode up to Vancouver, Canada, again in March 2019. From Vancouver i shipped myself and the bike to Dublin, Ireland, with AirCanada. Since April 2019, I've been riding around the west part of Europe. Now i'm in Italy. ______________________________ I filled 5 little notebooks up with my stories, my observations, my most personal opinions about what happened during my trip. I had 4 major crashes (plus unnumbered little ones on sand). I had one very unlucky day. Changed 23 times oil and filters. Replaced 13 rear tyres. Flew 340km with my drone. I can't believe it. I made it here in one piece! I'm home. 🇮🇹 What a journey. What an adventure. What an achievement, for me and my family. * Everything I am, I owe it to these people right here (and my big sis, taking one for the team, snapping this photo). They shaped who I am and always inspired me to be a better version of myself. They supported me and helped me, making me feel constantly loved. They also set me free, letting me live my "unconventional life", that takes me always far away from them and exposes me to dangers. * If i made it here alive, is also thanks to my incredible motorcycle, Bronte, that carried me for almost 170000km, without even flinching. Seriously, I punished this bike for 4 years in a row. Zero mechanical failures. Kudos to @ktm_official for building one of the strongest machines I've ridden in my life. * Thanks to the people that believed in me, and also thanks to the ones that didn't. Love and hate indistinguishably feed my desire to push forward and go beyond my own limits. It makes me trust myself even more. Thanks to the companies that decided to support me along this long journey. * Thanks also to all the people that followed my journey on social media and that have been so enthusiastic in sharing this adventure with me. Every time i look at Bronte, she reminds me of all the incredible adventure we have been through. All the scratches, scars, bumps and bruises we carry, are memories that nobody could never take away from us. As we soak the last rays of Sun, for the day, we cherish our bond and we realize that we were both somehow meant to be. San Salvatore is a tiny little village in the west coast of Sardinia, few km from Cabras. In winter only 2 people live here. Sleeping here was simply incredible. It felt like being in one of those old western movies.
