i think they were extremely dependent on each other after their parents’ death and i felt like it was implied through bunny’s jokes (rather charles’s reaction to them i guess) that charles may have been molested by a priest as a child too

edit: wanted to add that this is an extremely oversimplified way of putting how i think their childhood was like i cant really articulate it fully but there are more specific details to me at least
